Suspected sockpuppets

User:Noormohammed satya and User:Noor119848 are two accounts operated by the same user (as evidenced by the same information disclosed on the two user pages, and also implicitly by the two accounts' contribution history). Both accounts were blocked yesterday due to persistent copyright violation and other disruptive behaviour. Almost immediately afterwards, it appears the user resumed editing via the above two anonymous IPs. This is evidenced by the fact that, with a single exception, the only pages edited by these IP accounts were those User:Noor119848 created or edited in the day preceding his block:

It seems vanishingly unlikely that 25 of the 29 edits by these two "new" users would happen to be to the very same articles that User:Noor119848 was editing immediately before his block (including two articles that he had just created only a day or two ago). Psychonaut (talk) 12:25, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Update 1: I have added User:Moviebuff 1990 as well; the pattern of contributions seems to be much the same. All three accounts' edits are concerned entirely with adding information on Indian television and movie awards, often to the same set of articles, and often posting material in violation of copyright. None of the accounts have ever made any edits to the talk namespaces, except to remove copyvio and other warnings from their user pages. —Psychonaut (talk) 10:30, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Update 2: Possibly all three accounts are sockpuppets of Thomas.young234 (talk · contribs) (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Thomas.young234/Archive). That user also seems to have an obsession with Indian television and movies, and particularly with the awards bestowed upon them. The three accounts here edit many of the same articles as User:Thomas.young234's articles. One of the accounts has a similar name to one of the sockpuppets (User:Noor119848 = User:Noor201142); User:Thomas.young234 tends to name accounts in this fashion. —Psychonaut (talk) 10:39, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

After the Master Noormohammed satya (talk · contribs) and sock Noor119848 (talk · contribs) were blocked on 7th July, this new suspect has started editing from 13th July on same interested articles of Indian TV shows and its awards. The suspected sock has now created one unreferenced award article and corresponding template. The previous sock had created synonymous templates 1, 2, 3. §§AnimeshKulkarni (talk) 15:28, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Same behaviour as the master account and other sockpuppet accounts (User:Noor119848, User:Noormohammed satya, User:Noorsatya, etc.):

  • Concerned almost exclusively with Indian television and movie awards.
  • No edits at all to Talk space, except to add project templates.
  • Creates new pages, usually on awards, by pasting in complete articles which usually lack sufficient context in the lead (e.g., [1], [2])
  • Among edits to existing award pages, most or all of these were originally created by the other accounts (e.g., [3], [4], [5], [6])
  • Edits to non-award pages tend to consist of adding templates created by himself or by the other accounts.
  • Adds text to articles in violation of copyright (e.g., [7])
  • Removes cleanup or copyvio tags without explanation (e.g., [8])
  • Completely unresponsive to attempts to engage him; only edits to User talk space are to remove messages and warnings (e.g., [9])

This recently created account is recreating deleted articles which were originally created by the previous socks. As I'm not an administrator I can't examine the deleted article histories to tell whether they're actually identical to the new ones. However, so far the overall editing pattern matches those of the previous socks: all edits are about Zee TV-related Indian television awards, and consist of creating award pages and templates and then linking to them from other articles. Technically not conclusive, but very possible. Template content alone is very similar, but that doesn't say that much in this case, there's more or less only one way to represent those factoids in a navbox. All taken together (same template pagenames, matching interests as described in history, matching (but not by itself conclusive) technical evidence probably accumulates to call this  Confirmed.

Following the blocking of the latest User:Noormohammed satya sock a couple days ago, this IP and newly created account are removing copyright violation templates from Noor's articles ([10] [11]), and reposting the contents of Noor's deleted articles such as Winners of 1st Gold Awards, 2007 into existing ones ([12]). Psychonaut (talk) 16:40, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User:Aashna Khanna may be a false positive. Though the account has persisted in removing the copyvio templates, the operator is now giving rationales via edit summaries, which is something User:Noormohammed satya and his socks never do. —Psychonaut (talk) 10:31, 3 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The behaviour of this account is the same as the previous socks—most notably, creation of Indian television awards articles (including the same ones previously created by the socks) with little or no context provided. As usual, the user is completely unresponsive to attempts to communicate. Psychonaut (talk) 16:36, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The IP account edits almost exclusively the same articles as the other sockpuppet, User:Huzaifakhanwla, often immediately after the latter creates them. Psychonaut (talk) 21:20, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In response to the clerk's query: the best evidence for sockpuppetry is the (re)creation of similar or identical articles which had previously been created by User:Noormohammed satya's other sockpuppets (but then later deleted). I'm not an administrator so I can't provide diffs to deleted articles. I'll ask an administrator already familiar with this sockpuppeteer to take a look at the case. —Psychonaut (talk) 21:28, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to BIG Star Most Entertaining Television Reality Show mentioned by User:Legoktm below, someone could also check out the recreations Apsara Award for Best Non-Fiction Series and Apsara Award for Best Lyricist. Again, an admin will have to check who created the page the first time. The deletion log claims the latter article was created by a sockpuppet of User:Ali Mohammad Khilji, who has been confused with User:Noormohammed satya and User:Vibhas Kashyap on occasion—all three are very prolific sockpuppeteers active on Indian TV articles and it can be hard to tell them apart. —Psychonaut (talk) 14:37, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've had some more time to trawl through my notes on User:Noormohammed satya's deleted contributions. I think if you check the deleted articles with titles of the form "Global Film Honour for X", most of which were probably created by the sockpuppet User:Noor119848, you'll find they're almost identical in style and format to User:Huzaifakhanwla's "Aspara Award for X" articles. These two sets of articles share so many similarities that they led to almost identical personalized criticisms from users who were not aware at the time that they were talking to a sock farmer: [15] [16]Psychonaut (talk) 09:56, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
User:Huzaifakhanwla just got blocked on Commons after a spree of uploading Indian TV show images with falsified authorship and licensing tags there and linking them from articles here (see Commons:User talk:Huzaifakhanwla and the block log). This is the same behaviour that led to the banning of User:Noormohammed satya and User:Noor119848 back in July 2012 (except that most of their uploads were to Wikipedia rather than Commons). —Psychonaut (talk) 20:12, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk note:  Clerk declined. In order to facilitate and expedite your request, please provide diffs to support your case. Please give two or more diffs meeting the following format:
  1. At least one diff is from the sockmaster (or an account already blocked as a confirmed sockpuppet of the sockmaster), showing the behaviour characteristic of the sockmaster.
  2. At least one diff per suspected sockpuppet, showing the suspected sockpuppet emulating the behaviour of the sockmaster given in the first diff.
  3. In situations where it is not immediately obvious from the diffs what the characteristic behaviour is, a short explanation must be provided. Around one sentence is enough for this. King of ♠ 20:39, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This account has the same editing interest and patterns as previous socks: it is concerned almost exclusively with televised Indian award ceremonies, makes persistent copyvios (see Commons:User talk:3lakapkgk), and is completely uncommunicative. As with the last sockpuppet account, User:Huzaifakhanwla, an IP confirmed to be User:Noormohammed satya, 178.61.8.29 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), edits the same articles within minutes or hours (e.g., [46] [47] [48]). Sometimes these articles were freshly created by User:3lakapkgk ([49] [50]) so it's unlikely they were discovered by accident. I recommend reblocking the IP as it's been editing with impunity since the lapse of the last block. —Psychonaut (talk) 16:33, 27 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

All signs point to these accounts being DUCKs:

See also Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Imaginationcolors/Archive. Given the evidence presented there and at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Noormohammed satya/Archive#02 June 2013, I'm pretty sure that Imaginationcolors is Noormohammed satya. But even if not, clearly the accounts listed in the present report correspond to Imaginationcolors. Just like Noormohammed satya and his socks, this account's main purpose is creating articles about Indian television awards. It is certainly another sock because the new articles it creates get immediately edited by confirmed socks such as User:178.61.8.29. Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

I was initially suspicious of these users due to:

  • The Bekaaboo page, originally created by user:Pariwarking (now blocked as a sock of user:Immirzakhan) being promptly recreated by a different user, User:Noormohammed_satya, after it was G11 CSDd
  • Then, when I AFD'd it, a keep vote appearing almost immediately by a third user, User:Exploreandwrite whose history closely aligns to the other two, and who looks to me to be leaving brief, meaningless votes on a lot of non-contentious AFDs to avoid suspicion, and then occasionally contributing more substantively to ones that other users in this group are involved in.
  • Finally, we now have a second vote on the AFD by User:Noormohammed_satya, the re-creator of the page, which uses some identical wording to the previous vote, and has a very similar tone and style and use of language for the rest of the comment.
  • I hope this is enough to be at least worth having a look at, and of course I apologise if I am mistaken. Hugsyrup (talk) 08:59, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Everything else is stale, including the account below. Lexiconteacher (talk) 11:10, 30 May 2019 (UTC) I have struck these comments by an account that has now been blocked as a sock. I think it is worth noting the interesting attempt to avoid a checkuser being carried out in this seemingly unrelated case, however. Hugsyrup (talk) 12:41, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Addition as original reporter. Two further accounts have since made keep votes on this AFD, both appear to have been created recently and to have few if any other edits. These are User:Reading_and_writing_movies and User:Literacylord. All four comments have a similar tone and style of making an argument, in my view. It seems obvious to me that either sockpuppetry or meatpuppetry is going on here. Hugsyrup (talk) 11:56, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
