Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

All of these accounts submitted disruptive editing in several Wikipedia articles involving Malaysia-Indonesia themed articles. Among the few articles involved includes Malays (ethnic group), Pisang Goreng, Ketupat, Parang, among few. One of the ip address has previously been blocked, this was followed by the creation of several new accounts within the span of few days and shared a common pattern of editing in the similarly themed articles. A few of the experienced editor has trying to curb the disruptive editing. Additionally, Jayaagung has been given warning in various edit wars (which he has since blanked on his talk section). For the ip address, both are based in Bekasi and Jakarta in the Jabodetabek (the Jakarta Metropolitan Area).--د بڠساون (talk) 02:47, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Similar range of edit topics (Indonesian cuisine), e.g.:

Similar types of edits, e.g.

  • 1. Addition of ethnic/national "creator" for dishes: [5], [6]
  • 2. Unexplained removal of wikilinks: [7], [8]

I have given @Alam Bashari a number of well-meant advises and increasingly sharper warnings because of their edit behavior (ultra-nationalist SPA, no sources, bad sources, claims not supported by sources), and today at 10:00 UTC they posted a "farewell message" to my talk page and blaked their talk page. At 12:09, @GarudaPower started editing. Austronesier (talk) 15:05, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Additional info The suspected user has created another account ("User:Alam Bashari 2") and posted a message to my take page (User talk:Austronesier#“Sockpuppet”). They make excuses about creating a new account due to being locked out because they had created their earlier account without email, explain their editing motives (countering "biased" information about several topics related to Indonesia added by editors from another country, viz. Malaysia), and essentially admit creating sock accounts for that purpose. I will translate the last three lines verbatim:
"No no, please do not report me again, ok dude."
"And you are one most patient editors who do not immediately block. Apparently you are not a Malaysian editor like the one(s) who I debated with before. Ok. Thank you. [NB: dulu dulu "before" usually refers to a long stretch in the past - Austronesier].
"I have only created this one new account, there will be no sockpuppet(ry) again." signed by "Alam Bashari 2".
Austronesier (talk) 12:05, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Additional info 2 Novice editor [[User:GA1015]] has started from 31 Dec 2019 to push the same kind of POV in the same range of pages (Indonesian-related topics, predominatly about food). Overall similar behavior (edit warring to the neglect of warnings), the only apparent difference is a seemingly higher proficiency in English than User:Alam Bashari and User:Alam Bashari 2, but this also applies to User:Nelson Salomo Jr below. Concrete matches from wording in edit summaries:
    - "*spesific" (asterisk, misspelling): [[User:GA1015]] [9], User:GarudaPower [10]
    - "repair damaged pages": [[User:GA1015]] [11], User:Nelson Salomo Jr [12]
@ST47: I am not a clerk, but I do see behavioral matches between User:Nelson Salomo Jr with accounts from Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Muhammad Farrel D. A concrete wording match is:
- User:Jayaagung (sock of "Muhammad Farrel D") speaks of "dwarfing Indonesian territory" in this edit summary, User:Nelson Salomo Jr writes "mengerdilkan bahasa indonesia" (='dwarfing the Indonesian language') in this talk entry.
Beyond this, the range of edited pages largely overlaps, POV is identical (ultra-nationalist SPAs). –Austronesier (talk) 11:39, 4 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Same pattern as previous socks: prolific creation of drafts on Indonesian cuisine with a focus on the ethnic origins of the food. Compare the logs for blocked sock Kebajikan111 with the logs for this user. Ksatria has recreated several drafts by Kebajikan111 that were deleted (all of the blue links in Kebajikan111's log). The only users to make major edits to this page are Ksatria Khazana and confirmed socks Alam Bashari & Kebajikan111. Requesting Checkuser because previous reports show they tend to use several accounts at once. SpicyMilkBoy (talk) 12:21, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • confirmed sock Alam Bashari:[13]
  • suspected sock Ksatria Khazanah:[14]

when both blanked my talk page "by accident" (I guess to get my attention, because they know I speak Indonesian, but I ignored their posts). –Austronesier (talk) 16:45, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

User Aguy777 brought up these IPs on my talk page. While looking into their edits, I notice similarities with the Muhammed Farrel D sock drawer.

  • At Bakwan, an article about Indonesian food, I noticed edits from multiple IPs as well as edits from Ksatria Khazanah and Alam Bashari, both of whom are CU confirmed socks of the master.
  • At Bakpau, an article about Chinese Indonesian food, I see edits from these IPs and Ksatria again.
  • Note here where Ksatria removes Chinese script with the explanation: "Remove chinese script". Note this edit by one of the IPs, that also removed Chinese script, with the explanation: "Remove chinese sricp because this is english wikipedia". Note lower-case chinese.
  • Note this edit by one of the IPs, and in particular the removal of the creator parameter, which was being used erroneously. This is similar to this edit by Muhammad Putra Aj, another CU confirmed sock.
  • The IP user seems to be asserting their personal bias about the cultural orientation of various foods and items from the general Indonesian region. Here the IP decides that this food is not Javanese, but Indonesian. They repeated this edit several times. Here, one of the CU confirmed socks, Muhammadwidodo decides that Mie Jawa is Indonesian, and not consumed in Malaysia, which is almost identical to this edit by one of the IPs.
  • Edits like the above, and this, where yet another sock account Alam Bashari moves a Malaysian category underneath an Indonesian category, is just so weird, but it is suggestive of a pattern of subtle ethnic or cultural warring.

I've semi-protected a few of the articles and will be contemplating blocks, but I wanted to build this report to help out Aguy777, who is far more likely to encounter the block evader, so that Aguy can comfortably revert per WP:REVERTBAN. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:16, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Recreated Ayam tangkap with the same exact unique mistakes/wording. ie This one food is made from basic ingredients of chicken meat, which is cooked and fried with special spices and served with crispy leaves. Praxidicae (talk) 13:11, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk note: I blocked on behavior (lots of draft articles on Indonesian food, and at least one was substantially similar to a past sock). They're denying it on their talk page (though it's rather interesting that they know what page we used as comparison...) so I'll let someone else take a look and close. They claim that the similarity is because they're basically copy-pasting machine translations via Google Translate, but I find it difficult to believe that two people are both doing the same thing on similar articles.
