Suspected sockpuppets

[edit]

A check for sleepers would also be helpful.

See the user interaction report where a lot of the areas they edit are the same and many of those areas have a substantial amount of edits from both users.

See also some recent reverts by both users on the article history of List of The Loud House episodes, such as [1], [2], [3], and [4]. Note that in that first diff, Luigi also accused both myself and IJBall of vandalism, a clear-cut personal attack when they had no evidence to back up their allegation. Consensus on a talk page discussion by IJBall was to list things by air date as well as perform general clean-up.

If I missed anything, others may provide additional feedback should they wish.

Accused parties may also comment/discuss in this section below. See Defending yourself against claims.

  • Comment: To me, the interaction report is quite illuminating – I find it very difficult to believe that two random editors would have such overwhelming overlap in article topic editing. Then, today, MarioFan123 immediately reverting an edit that Luigi1090 had just reverted is also telling. Lastly, the fact that both accounts are named after Mario video game characters is likely more than just coincidental. --IJBall (contribstalk) 02:24, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Admittedly I've never run into MarioFan123 though I have interacted with Luigi1090 a few times. However, as IJBall mentioned above, it seems the editors have far too many topic overlaps for them not to be the same person. • @Berean Hunter: Hmmm, the comparison there seems incredibly similar. It appears all three accounts are the same person to me. Katniss May the odds be ever in your favor 16:14, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Unfortunately, I don't have anything else, at least not at the moment. However, I still believe that the interaction report is a pretty strong indicator by itself that there's sockpuppetry going on here, or meatpuppetry at the very least, and it's hard to ignore that. Not only that, but both Luigi and MarioFan reverted me on the exact same thing. I still feel like running a CU would be more beneficial than not running one at all. Even if results come back negative, at least then we have a base, and hey, maybe something from that could be of help to us. On a long-term socker we're dealing with, we had one CU result, out of the many that had already been performed and come back as positive, come out as unrelated, but, after another look, it turned out to be that there was a relation between that account and the socker. Would editors here please offer their opinions on the additional account that I've listed here. Seems to be very close and generally quite accepting of the other two accounts' edits.

Okay, I've looked this over more closely. The extra account that I added above in the link and Luigi are on two different continents, I believe. I found IPs for both.
Additionally, I believe MarioFan watches American TV based on his edits and less likely to be Luigi who is located elsewhere. Still possible...more evidence would help.
Luigi's home wiki appears to be the Italian Wikipedia, he edits here on the English Wikipedia, has edited on the Portuguese Wikipedia and focused on an obscure template full of redlinks on the Malaysian Wikipedia. The history of that template has several IPs associated with and accounts that are blocked as Giovannigiulio. That editor's primary Wikipedia is/was the Italian one but he also edited on the Portuguese one as did his socks (Gmira99 and Mr. Lama as examples). He edits on other wikis also but this combination seems to be more than just a coincidence. The Malaysian template only has three articles linked out of that sea of red and it is unused but that blocked LTA and Luigi have the common interest of keeping it curated.
Vituzzu, if you feel that I have provided enough evidence then perhaps you could run a checkuser at it.wiki between the named account, Luigi1090 and Mr. Lama neither of which are stale. Gmira99 has just gone stale but I've left a note on their Italian wiki page hoping that they will answer soon.

Surprisingly I'd say Luigi1090 and Mr. Lama are unrelated by CU, just a certain activity as anons. --Vituzzu (talk) 06:17, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for checking, Vituzzu. I recommend leaving this open for 24 hours to allow the filer or others the opportunity to add further evidence if they have any. I believe that if a check was done here on the English Wikipedia that Luigi and Mario would be found to be unrelated.

@Berean Hunter: What do you want done with this case?--Bbb23 (talk) 01:48, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Closing. I don't believe that Luigi is Mario but if someone believes that they have evidence to the contrary then they may refile.

@Berean Hunter: Me with Icebear244 and MarioFan123, we're not the same person. Luigi1090 (talk) 08:58, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That's the conclusion that we have reached.
