Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

So all of these accounts are SPA with regard to the set of topics around Plavi Mittal, who is a relation of Ajit Jain, who has a kid with a rare genetic disease (a Dysferlinopathy) and who set up a disease foundation, the Jain Foundation, to study the disease. Mittal ran it, then recently left it to found a nonprofit called In-Depth Diagnostics that said it was going to offer free genetic testing to people with rare diseases.

There was originally a bunch of promotional editing about Mittal, the disease, and both nonprofits. When I started interacting with editors to address the [{WP:APPARENTCOI]], the promotional editing stopped by the putative master and socks 1-3, and a bunch of oddly negative editing started by socks 4-6 and the two IPs (the socking of which is stark and blatant). I cannot tell if this is one person who changed their perspective or if it is two or more. This might be some extended-family dispute as well?

I also interacted with Northupnorth who said that he/she is not the person who was doing the promotional editing - but their editing is also SPA for this stuff and rather promotional as well.

I am asking for a CU to help sort this.

For "team negative"

  • per Special:Contributions/Miyoshi2, Miyoshi2 made 2 edits on July 24, the first a long note on Talk called "How can Wikipedia have a page on this person? " and the 2nd, trimming a bunch of promo content from an article. Also made the key change about the relation of the affected kid, specifying that the child is "her uncle's son". There is no source cited that specifies the relation between Ajit Jain Mittal, so this is kind of a key edit.
  • per Special:Contributions/67.201.81.51 three days later this IP came along and made the same sorts of edits and complaints about puffery around Mittal
  • per Special:Contributions/Low-depth_Diagnostics on July 8 this account showed up and did the same stuff
  • per Special:Contributions/72.65.51.140 on July this account did exact same edits as the one above (note, after this nonsense I merged everything to one article)
  • per Special:Contributions/In-Diagnostics2 on July 10 this account showed up and did the same stuff at the remaining article.

For "team positive"

  • Per Special:Contributions/Eevery this account showed up in May 2017 and made various small edits then headed right to this nexus of content and added a bunch of promotional content, and created the puffery-full article about Mittal. On May 15 I asked them about connections, and at 04:12 on that day they said they had one and would follow the COI guideline.
    • Per Special:Contributions/Leeer333 (NOTE - this account is old, active April 2012 to Jan 2016) but by name and by edits it is very similar to the "Eevery" account. This is very clearly DUCK.
    • Per Special:Contributions/Nupgarg this account made one promotional edit on May 15 at 18:12 (so 14 hours after Eevery said they would follow COI. This is very clearly DUCK
  • per Special:Contributions/Varshaz this account appeared on 30 May and made 3 promotional and oddly unsourced and personal edits to the Mittal article She has a huge passion for gardening and painting. Her garden is full of unique plants, colorful flowers and with her mom's and husband's help she's got a bunch of home grown veggies.... Bizarre. Not sure this is related, except that it is more promo/SPA editing on Mittal.

For Northupnorth, their contribs are Special:Contributions/Northupnorth. As you can see from their contribs, it is 100% around this stuff, and this account created two of the key articles back in 2010 and added spam links like this. On July 6 they added an infobox with picture to the article about Mittal and then changed "uncle" to "cousin" (!) Weird. On their talk page they said they used to work for the Jain Foundation but don't anymore. I don't know what to make of this person. This could be the sockmaster for some of these accounts, or just a related but different person.

So there you go. Jytdog (talk) 17:33, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
