David J Farrar

David J Farrar · ( talk | logs | links | watch ) · [revisions] I suppose the article was deleted because of alleged conflict. There was none. it was factual.Your editor at the time sought more contributions from me. The current celebration of 100 years of aerospace at Bristol, England, will shortly release an article showing how without me and my colleagues there would be nothing to celebrate.Wikipedia should note this.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Dajofar (talkcontribs)

  •  Not done As far as I see the article has not been deleted and there is nothing to undelete at this point. Apart from heeding the COI advice you should use one account only, though.--Tikiwont (talk) 09:06, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Matthew McAvene

I don't understand why my page was deleted, any questions contact me at [email protected]. -98.171.172.56 (talk) 14:57, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Done As the page was deleted under the WP:Proposed deletion process, it is automatically restored on request. The concern cited in the PROD nomination was "2 years with no third party sources, nothing in google news, non-notable." The only sources cited are the subject's own website and Myspace; the article needs to show "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" to satisfy the WP:Notability requirement, see also the particular guideline for musical performers at WP:MUSICBIO. Also, if you are the subject of the article, see WP:Autobiography and WP:Conflict of interest. JohnCD (talk) 15:25, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Done I have restored the article to your userspace at User:Renala/Aamer Sarfraz for you to add sources. Please read WP:Notability and WP:Notability (academics) for the standard required. Before moving it back to the main space, please check with user Scott MacDonald (talk · contribs), the admin who deleted it. His deletion was based on a deletion debate five years ago at WP:Articles for deletion/Aamer Sarfraz; I believe that was a different Aamer Sarfraz, and will explain that to him, but you should still check with him. Norb Vonnegut

Norb Vonnegut is the author of Top Producer, a financial thriller that has received a lot of acclaim, particularly in our current political environment. His second book, The Gods of Greenwich, will be published this year by Minotaur/St. Martins Press. Norb is a frequent speaker and recipient of significant media attention. He should be in Wikipedia! -Megvon (talk) 17:39, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Done As a contested PROD, the article has been automatically restored on request, but you need to provide some independent reliable sources to show that he meets the WP:Notability requirement - see WP:AUTHOR. The only external reference - Publisher's Weekly - is a deadlink. JohnCD (talk) 21:18, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Chintha Lakshmi Sinhaarachchi

Firstly this is not a biography of a living person. Chintha Lakshmi Sinhaarachchi passed away in year 2000. I do not have the exact dates and they will be put up as soon as I find them. Secondly I have added references. Chintha Lakshmi Sinhaarachchi is a very popular writer in Sri Lanka. She translated several Bengali novels to Sinhala directly from Bengali. Her translations received several national awards. I am new to editing wikipedia, so my apologies if I have done this in the wrong way. Any advice is much appreciated. JanithCK (talk) 01:36, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

The article has not been deleted. As the subject is not a living person, I have removed the BLP-PROD template. If you have other references but do not know how to insert them, make a note of them on the article talk page and put {{helpme}} there with a request for assistance. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 08:27, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks JohnCD. Is it ok if I removed the unreferencedBLP tag and orphan tag as this article does not belong to those categories now? Regards. JanithCK (talk) 13:27, 23 April 2010 (UTC)JanithCK
Yes, I think so. You may find the bot pits back the "Orphan" one, as I think its threshold is three incoming links, but I wouldn't worry about it. JohnCD (talk) 21:40, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Legal disputes over the Harry Potter series ‎

Elgreco7 (talk) 07:34, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

The page has not been deleted. You inserted new material, and another editor removed it with the edit summary "NPOV- moving to talk page". That means he thinks it does not comply with Wikipedia's policy on WP:Neutral point of view. So what you have is a WP:Content dispute, and you should discuss it on the article talk page with the other editor and try to reach a WP:Consensus. I see that he has written there:"OK. This can go in. Eventually. But it needs to be substantially rewritten until it complies with Wiki rules on neutrality. I'll get to it when I find more sources." Nihal Kaviratne CBE

This document is purely legal -Nihal Kaviratne 14:21, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

It appears that this article was created under 2 names Nihal Kaviratne and Nihal Kaviratne CBE, the later is unnecessary and has been tagged for speedy deletion. Nihal Kaviratne will likely meet notability guideline as the article is improved by various editors but the creator of the article has been cautioned about editing articles about himself.--RadioFan (talk) 15:13, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

i could sleep for a thousand years

This is an album that will be released on June 29 2010 and there is no copyright infringement involved so why has it been deleted? -Captainmagenta (talk) 15:22, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Not done This article was deleted as a result of a deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/I Could Sleep For A Thousand Years. It is unlikely that an unreleased album will have attracted enough independent comment to be notable, see also WP:NALBUMS, and it seems this one has not. If you believe the discussion was wrongly closed, or if you have new information, you should ask user Tone (talk · contribs), the admin who closed the discussion; if he does not agree, you can take it to WP:Deletion review. Osman Malikyar

There is no reason at all this page should be deleted. -Namso85 (talk) 08:37, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

The page has not been deleted, but it will be unless you provide references to reliable sources to confirm what it says. WP:Verifiability: "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth—that is, whether readers are able to check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether we think it is true." There are three references on the page, but none of them mentions Osman Malikyar, let alone confirm what the article says, or give any indication that he is notable enough for an article - see WP:MUSICBIO for the standard required for a musical performer. JohnCD (talk) 10:01, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

clipbucket

Living in a country with about 5 million citizens, I find it a little bit sad to realize that 'notability' will require more than the entire population of my country, under the age of 20, to be using the stuff the article is about. I thought wikipedia was about being able to write articles about .. pretty much everything, even stuff not showing up in the first few sponsored google search results and really strange species of frogs and extinct dino's, which I guess is pretty unnotable if using that formulae.

Anyway, being open source software, I don't find it THAT surprising, that the developers have problems not showing just a tiny bit of pride (i promise they regret that now), and that it may shine through in their selection of words, or whatever the reason may have been for deleting the article. The people arguing for deletion seemed to 'have an agenda' much more then the article writers did, in my honest opinion. Free software is not something anyone make money from, so I just can't find any decent reason in those listed. It seems plain wrong. Not responding and just going through with deletion as if we didn't even exist. I thought wikipedia was about 'everyone being able to write articles' and have them 'mature over time' through collaboration and such, the article was deleted without anyone giving any real reasons that made any sense to the mayority of the participants and without giving prudent responses, just repeating 'unnotable' (700.000+ users) and 'found on sourceforge' - (matters in what way?) or trying to assist at any point.. It would be nice, if someone could clear this up and figure out why the article actually got deleted. At least some of the content must've been ok. -TheoUTSKIRTs (talk) 15:20, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Not done - this page has been deleted via a deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Clipbucket. If you believe that the consensus of the discussion was found in error, or that significant new information has come to light since the deletion, please contact the administrator who closed the discussion, user Eluchil404 (talk · contribs). If you have already done so, your concerns can be taken to deletion review.
FWIW, you might want to read WP:Notability. Nothing is said about requiring a certain number of users.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 17:12, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for responding. I have read that Notability article quite a lot of times and have allready provided the required links and such a few times. The voting system isn't that good i'm afraid, first - my vote isn't counting, it's not even there but I'm sure I voted to keep. Another person has voted several times and got it deleted that way by managing to get more delete-votes than is actually the case, if other people was aware of that, i guess it would've been more fair, bit like a shoot-em-up lol, so... Actually doesn't stuff like that void the voting in normal circumstances (aka cheating)? Just take a look please, it's really weird. It was closed before anyone knew about it basically. So the mod effectively had the decision from the get go. At least the voting system i'm aware of shouldn't allow that. If notability really does have anything to do with either 1: the thing being publicly known (700k+ users),the discussion actually did seem to cross that subject - otherwise i wouldn't have mentioned that because i really dont care, just want to get this working and over with - i'm not here to cloud it further, naturally, or 2: other third-party sources writing articles completely out of our control - then we really covered that thoroughly by now. I moved some links to third-party articles written by hosting companies (that's probably the best shell in the gun, they always choose what works the best, i think that's a pretty decent third party to vouch for a free software) to the talk page because otherwise how can anyone see them and verify, they have always been around but was ignored, if that doesn't cover it i don't think anything will no matter what i try. I have nothing to do with web-hosting either, i just like to write plugins for this thing in my free time and wouldn't mind people to be able to actually locate it and i guess other people thought wikipedia would be a good place for that. I don't really understand the problem in the first place. It must be a misunderstanding. I don't have time to search around for mister or misses 404 right now, it's very late and i have better things to do right now (wink) I will try, just not today. This wiki stuff is sortof black magic to me, i'll have to look at how to 'contact' people here some other time.

Adil Khan

Adil Khan( formerly known as adil thathaal) is a well known actor/dancer from oslo norway, he is the winner of Dansefeber 2006 ( norwegian version of " so you think you can dance"), before that he had won Scandinavian breakdance competetion in malmø ( sweden), it is strange that Christopher Flinder Pedersen (a person who stood 3rd in "dansefeber") can have a page on wikipedia english) but adil khan who won that competetion had been deleted. beside winning dance competetions , adil khan is a well known theatre actor in norway, he had played the main roles in " west side story", " nutcracker", @Alice", spring awakening, and Mowgli in " the jungle book".. right now he is playing the main role in norwegian state television´s ( NRK) forthcoming serial...this is just the start of his carreer ( he is 27 now), adil khan is going to be the next big thing in entertainment world because he is in contact with indian/ pakistani film makers ( adil khan is a norwegian with pakistani roots)

adil khan had been nominated for the prestegious theater award for his performance in the jungle book...adil khan has been awarded " the artistic award" by the mayor of Oslo in 2009 ( norway)...Adil khan had been the official ambassador for FRI ( an anti smoking compaign, funded the ministry of health norway),..adil khan had receieved an award in 2008 from " cancer organization" which brought him in the same line as Gro Harlem Bruntland ( a former norwegian prime minister)...some of the things about adil khan could be checked on norwegian version of wikipedia ( though his page needs to be updated there:

one thing to make clear, i am not adil khan, though i use thathaal as my name, this is my caste name, which i share with adil khan..there are almost one thousand thathaals in oslo, norway. - Thathaal (talk) 21:36, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Done The title had been protected from creation because several articles about non-notable persons called Adil Khan had been created; howvere, that was some time ago, and it sounds as though this is a different one, so I have unprotected the title and you can create an article. Before you do, read WP:Your first article carefully, particularly on the need to cite reliable sources. JohnCD (talk) 09:54, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Nature Camp

The current redirection of Nature Camp's page to George Washington National Forest (where it is located) does not do it justice. Nature Camp has a history, and deserves it. In the discussion of deletion, many wikipedia people claimed it lacked reliable sources, or that the webpage was not good enough a reference. keep in mind, however, that most editors are patrons of nature camp who have gone there before, and are infact first person references themselves. the story of percy on the page cannot be traced to an internet route because it is a verbal story that the campers hear one night. Re-Adil Khan

reasoning -Thathaal (talk) 10:47, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

thanks you sir for the positive reply, i did my best but i am having problem to have adil's name added in the categories, could you please explain to me whow to do that, since this is going to be my first article.. you can check adil khan's name in the following categories..

http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adil_Khan

Kategorier: Norske realitydeltakere | Norske dansere | Norsk-pakistanere | Fødsler i 1983 | Norske skuespillere

English translation of the above text: cateogories: Norwegian Reality programme participants, Norwegian daancers, Norwegian-pakistanies ( norwegian of pakistani origin), born in 1983, Norwegian actors

You have to create an article first, click on Adil Khan and type in the content you want. You can sort out the categories after there is an article. you would use category:Norwegian actors and category:1983 births Category:Norwegians of Pakistani descent Category:Norwegian dancers.  Not done. The article was deleted as a result of the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/We Are The In Crowd. It was then repeatedly re-created, so that the title has been protected against creation. If, after reading WP:Your first article and WP:Notability (music), you think you can create an acceptable article, you would do best to make a draft in your user-space, and then approach admin Shimeru (talk · contribs) who closed the discussion or admin Graeme Bartlett (talk · contribs), who protected the title, to see whether they agree that your article is suitable. If not, you can take it to WP:Deletion review. After much debate on how to handle articles about political candidates, which were formerly deleted unless they had notability apart from being a candidate, it was agreed (see WP:POLITICIAN) that they should be replaced by redirects to the constituency article, and that decision was implemented at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scott Seaman-Digby. If Mr Seaman-Digby is elected, then he can have an article. You can still get access to your text by clicking on the name, which will take you to the constituency article. Just below the top of that, it will say "redirected from Scott Seaman-Digby". Click on that, and you will be taken to the article, now a redirect. The "history" tab will give you access to previous versions of the article; but you should not reinstate it unless he is elected. JohnCD (talk) 21:58, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Timothy A. Wilkinson

MSgt Wilkinson isn't some random solider from the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu. He is a Air Force Cross recipient, the second highest decoration a service member in the USAF can receive. If you take his article down you might as well take every AF Cross, Navy Cross, and Distinguished Service Cross recipient down. If the reasoning was well he is only famous for that battle Shughart and Gordon's article also should be deleted.-Feickus (talk) 23:13, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Simply Hired

Reasoning for deletion appears to be over-reaching and was possibly part of a malicious request for deletion by a competitor. Page is relevant due to the company's broad online presence as a metasearch engine for job postings and partnership with LinkedIn and others. -Superhilac (talk) 00:18, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

The only reference in the deletion log is: 21:46, 31 March 2010 JzG (talk | contribs) deleted "Simply Hired" ‎ (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion: User:Bburgart is almost certainly Bonnie Burgart, marketing associate at Simply Hired. Most edits are COI or spam. Article lacks credible sourcing.)

It can also be seen that this user made deletion requests to at least 2 other similar companies, both of which still have valid Wikipedia pages.

  1. 21:52, 31 March 2010 (diff | hist) Employment website ‎ (rm. laundry list)
  2. 21:49, 31 March 2010 (diff | hist) Buddingup ‎ (rm. deleted and questionable) (top)
  3. 21:47, 31 March 2010 (diff | hist) Indeed.com ‎ (→See also: rm. deleted)

The time is in line with these requests.

Please also see discussion on Indeed.com in reference to articles for deletion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Indeed.com

These companies are all competitors and it appears that there was most likely a malicious request to remove them all. Some were apparently successful, as in the case of Simply Hired, while others not, as in the case of Indeed.com and Buddingup. This purge appears to be unjustified and inconsistent.

EHCP

I have nothing to do with EHCP other than the fact that I use the software and it has opened many doors for me. I see now that Wikipedia is not the neutral information community I once thought it was. Your unjust actions in relation to deleting this article tells me Wikipedia is influenced by commercial agendas, and not freedom of information. It is quite obvious that arguments made against this article were in part by commercial competitors with an agenda. How much exactly did Plesk "donate" to influence this deletion decision? Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear

My firm's page has been deleted while in the process of building a page for a law firm. It is clearly for historical reference only and not as an advertising tool. We are not super familiar with this, as we are still new, and would like to understand why this page has been deleted and furthermore, how we can post a better, wiki-friendly page without further deletion or banishment. Furthermore, many other law firms post on wikipedia and we were simply trying to set up the very same format for Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear.

We were deleted by Snowolf, so we attempted to contact him but to no avail. We need to understand how to create a page similar to others that are already posted on Wikipedia and we would like to hear back from either Snowolf or a more active IT support who could help guide us through this process.

We want to follow all guidelines and rules, as we absolutely do not want to advertise to readers, offend wikipedia's administration or be banished from this community. We look forward to your response. For reference, please review our previous message to Snowolf below:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Bothwellmarketing/Sandbox

Snowolf: thank you for your review of this page. We are not power users of Wikipedia - maybe you can help.

Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear is a prominent Intellectual Property Law firm - they have been involved in protecting many biotech and information technology innovations. They told us that many law firms have their own Wikipedia page noting historical milestones and achievements. We checked and found that to be the case: Orrick Herrington, Latham & Watkins, O'Melveny, etc etc etc. We assumed that notable law firms were therefore accepted as being a valuable part of Wikipedia reference information. We thought we could author something similar for Knobbe - we have never done a Wikipedia page before, but we know a lot about law firms - - so we thought we could probably do a reasonable draft. We have not completed this - we also thought we were in a "development sandbox" and we would not be reviewed until the content was finished. I think it is unfortunate if this important firm is blocked from being listed because the name of our firm has the word "marketing" in it. We are not trying to advertise the firm - we just think they have made valuable contributions and earned a place.

Maybe you can advise us of why other firms were not blocked and this firm is - and what we can do to solve this. If this is merely an issue about our own firm name: Bothwell Marketing - we can certainly have another person/company submit a listing. In the meantime we really would like to have this listing "unblocked" so we can continue to work on it.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.11.80.89 (talkcontribs)

I wish to clarify that nobody can "have their own Wikipedia page": articles in Wikipedia are not "owned" by anybody but Wikipedia itself. If there are articles about these firms, I would like to presume in a spirit of assuming good faith that they were created by some impartial third party who found them both of interest and notable. We do not need or want the creation of articles about firms by the firms themselves, nor by their agents, employees or shareholders, for reasons both of partiality and conflict of interest. If non-notable firms have snuck themselves in, in violation of our rules and principles, then such articles can be nominated for deletion by you or anybody else; but we do not put much stock in what is known hereabouts as the "there's other articles out there which are just as bad as mine" argument. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:51, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Coincidentally, I was the one who requested deletion of the Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear page, so I can give you some good clues about why it was deleted.
The page was most recently deleted in 2008, and at the time it consisted solely of {{law-firm-stub}}, thus qualifying for speedy deletion under A3, since it had no substantial content.
The previous version, deleted in 2007, read exactly like a press release, as did the extremely similar sandbox version deleted by Snowolf. Given that you are a marketing firm, that's not surprising. You might take a minute to read through WP:COI (since I assume the law firm hired you) and WP:SPAM. Then let the law firm know that Wikipedia is not the place to "submit listings" in order to promote themselves. HTH --Fabrictramp | talk to me 13:40, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

I'm wondering if an administrator might be able to unearth an old iteration of my userpage from a 2006 self-requested deletion. I remember an earlier iteration of my userpage, back when I was more active as an editor, being in a form I liked and having a collection of links I found very useful at the time; I'd like to have that as a starting draft to work from. My guess is that the undeletion to undo probably is the deletion made by Tawker when looking at this log. — WCityMike 08:32, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Oh, and if this does prove possible, if you need to overwrite what's there in order to do it, go ahead; if not; if you can restore it to something like User:WCityMike/OldFrontPage or what have you, that'd be great. — WCityMike 08:36, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Done history from june to 4 July 2006 restored, there are other deleted versions too that come from earlier or later, and these too could be added back into history, so please say if you want this.
