ChrisTheDude (talk · contribs) - ChrisTheDude has been with us since the tail end of 2005, and provides a classic example of the longstanding trustworthy contributor. An outstanding user in terms of content creation, he has taken several articles to featured status. Project wise, he is an active member of Wikiproject Football, and he is an active participant in AfDs, where he always gives well reasoned comments. With a sound understanding of policy and process, he is an asset to the project who certainly wouldn't abuse the admin tools. Oldelpaso (talk) 15:31, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here:
I formally accept the nomination, with thanks to Oldelpaso, who is a great editor in his own right! I'll answer the questions below when I have a little more time, most likely on Monday...... ChrisTheDude (talk) 20:38, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Questions for the candidate
[edit]Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
- A: Well, I'd most likely stick mainly to what I enjoy doing the most, which is trying to get articles to Featured status (6 under my belt so far, 2 more currently at FAC), but the admin tools would assist in some of the other stuff I do like tagging garbage new pages for deletion (I'm an active new page patroller as well as a regular at AfD, as stated above) and combatting vandalism wherever it rears its ugly head. I've reported a number of vandalism-only accounts in the past which have resulted in blocks. Working mainly in the field of football/soccer, I see a lot of childish vandalism from people who like to attack rival teams/players, etc.
- 2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- A: I'd say it's a toss-up between taking the feeble stub article on Leek Town F.C. and turning it into a featured article despite having no prior knowledge of, or interest in, the club (thereby proving, in my mind, that anyone can create a good article on anything if they are committed to sourcing the info), or the huge amount of repetitive donkey work involved in turning a huge unformatted text dump in FA Cup 2006-07 Qualifying Rounds into correctly formatted tables.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: Oldelpaso pointed out to me that someone actually went so far as to create the article Chris the dude is a bastard after I contributed to his article getting deleted, but I don't think that on the whole I've got into any worse conflicts than any other experienced editor, and I can't really say that anyone's caused me stress. My general approach to dealing with editors who want to cause conflict involves drawing on my 5+ years of working in Customer Services in "real life" - just stay calm, think about what you're going to say before you say it, and never "rise to the bait"
Optional question from Malinaccier (talk • contribs)
- 4. Upon becoming an admin, how much time would you spend on specifically admin-related activities compared to just editing the encyclopedia? Malinaccier (talk • contribs) 00:08, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I'd certainly aim to do something admin-related most days if appropriate
