Walter Hartwell "Walt" White[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Speedy delete (WP:G5). Deleted by Ponyo in a mass deletion of the creator's pages as a sockpuppet. (non-admin closure) TartarTorte 01:11, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

People are not going to type the charater's full name and include the nickname after his given names in parenthesis prior to actually typing in his normal name. "Walt White" and "Walter Hartwell White" may qualify as redirects that are worthy to use, but there is no purpose in keeping this one. EytanMelech (talk) 16:46, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - none of these are reasons for deleting a redirect. It's unambiguous and directs to the correct target. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:05, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Ivanvector. There are numerous places where he is referred to as exactly this that someone may copy and paste. Thryduulf (talk) 19:47, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps this redirect has a purpose, but I cannot figure it out. The word is not mentioned on the destination page. Cavarrone 14:29, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: It's a food from the book, but it's not notable enough to include in the article as it's not a particularly important part of the book. It's more just a kind of funny food created for the book that's referenced a few times. TartarTorte 14:34, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It was last mentioned at the article in revision 747147066, where it is uncited (I guess it can just be sourced to the book as the description is accurate), but that was removed in the next edit with the entire section it was in "Places and things" with the rationale "wp:trivia". If others think that it should be included again and does it in a way that's less trivia/crufty, then I'll change to keep. TartarTorte 14:37, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per TatarTorte and nom. There are other uses of the word, but they're all partial title matches ("pazza" is Italian for "crazy"). Thryduulf (talk) 15:12, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Ambiguous, and confusing. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 19:10, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unhelpful & misleading: the target doesn't tell the reader anything about the character. Edward-Woodrowtalk 19:57, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. The article does list this character as appearing in this trilogy, which is something, but nothing more. I'm undecided whether this is a useful redirect. This comment also applies to the other undisambiguated names pointing to this target. Thryduulf (talk) 10:46, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Keep: No longer the case, I have updated article's list with information on the character. And all the other characters too. 7even8eight (talk) 16:32, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: (Because these are all names of characters listed at the target page with the same qualifications and anchor, I have bundled the characters that Thryduulf's comment refers to.) Utopes (talk / cont) 17:02, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not eating[edit]

The result of the discussion was disambiguate. (non-admin closure) Edward-Woodrowtalk 22:39, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Can also refer to starvation or a number of eating disorders. All three of these targets get ~equal pageviews, around 20k a month per. Fasting may be a logical target, but from my point of view its far from the only one. Looking at Special:PrefixIndex, redirects of this format (starting with "not ") are not often employed, and I feel it can be a similar situation to names such as "a human" or "a dog", possibly, in regards to their usefulness. Utopes (talk / cont) 07:36, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep or disambig. This is a very plausible search term for someone looking for the target article but who cannot remember the name of it. I think it less likely that someone will use this search term when searching for a symptom (be that of eating disorders or illness) or the effects of not eating (e.g. starvation), and there are links to the latter from the fasting article. I'm not sure what would go on a dab page, a list of medical conditions for which not eating is a symptom would be contrary to WP:NOT (and someone should not be using Wikipedia to diagnose an illness, the NHS (and presumably other heath providers) have websites designed for this purpose). I'm going to alert the WT:MED folks about this discussion as while it's not only a medical issue, they might have some useful ideas. Thryduulf (talk) 09:25, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I think it's quite plausible that individuals are not familiar with the concept of fasting (despite its religious links); so I think the link is useful.

Non-neutral redirect. Although Google Scholar, JSTOR etc. do provide evidence of sporadic usage of the term, it is far too limited to suggest it is a commonly used way to refer to the event. Loafiewa (talk) 07:17, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete Per nom. Pointy POV redirect, unlikely to be searched by a reader or used by an editor.
Hawkeye7 (discuss) 17:31, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Describing the atomic bombing of Hiroshima as a massacre is entirely a neutral point of view for most definitions of 'massacre'. That would extend to any bombings on civilians/civilian infrastructure regardless of the perpetrator. However, the phrase 'Hiroshima massacre' is essentially unused in literature (I got six results in google scholar). Other bombings in WW2 are also not described as massacres as far as I saw, so this does not seem uncommon. The usefulness of the redirect is questionable, but I also see no harm in keeping it. ― Synpath 16:40, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per WP:RNEUTRAL - redirects are not required to follow NPOV when a term has documented usage, which this does (not much, but not much isn't none), and when we're not inventing the term. This is unambiguous, and the redirect has also been around for 12 years and does see occasional use. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:48, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Ivanvector. -- Patar knight - chat/contributions 04:48, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as this name is used in multiple sources (something even the nom admits) and doesn't commonly refer to anything else. Redirects don't need to be neutral when their titles are widely used elsewhere. Glades12 (talk) 06:32, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A Mario Kart 64 track not listed at the target article. (No results for "big", and no results for "donut" either). Google searching this term only gives results for... big donuts. Unnecessary and confusing without context, this is not the Mario wiki. Utopes (talk / cont) 07:08, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. WP:GAMECRUFT frowns upon listing off of level names, and I can't think of much of a reason to otherwise include this name. Sergecross73 msg me 13:11, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Carijó[edit]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Paranaguá#Early settlement. Also retargeted the similar Carijós as suggested below. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 06:49, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget to Paranaguá or add some relevant content in the Guaraní people article (and remove the {{R from alternative language}} tag from the redirect). The Guaraní people article does not mention "Carijó". The Paranaguá article says the Carijó were "an extinct subgroup of the Guaraní people" (although that statement is unsourced). The Carioca article links to the Carijó article to explain the term, but readers who follow that link to look for the explanation will not find anything there (and perhaps might think Carijó is just a synonym for Guaraní, which is incorrect if what the Paranaguá article says is true, since they were a subgroup rather than just an alternative name). Currently, this redirect is marked with {{R from alternative language}}, but that does not seem correct if what the Paranaguá article says is true. — BarrelProof (talk) 07:22, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
