Ekar[edit]

The result of the discussion was disambiguate. Jay 💬 17:29, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This was created in 2012, then overwritten in 2017 with an article that was then speedily deleted. As the correct procedure in such a case is to restore the redirect, not delete the page outright, I have restored the redirect on procedural grounds. However, it's unclear to me (and, based on the history, perhaps also to Paine Ellsworth) why this redirect exists, and thus I bring it here. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 22:42, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. This appears to be a WP:RFOREIGN—see id:Ekar and ms:Ekar. The unit of measurement has no particular association with Indonesian or Malay. Ekar is also a surname (see d:Q12788254), but it looks like we don't have any articles on people with this name. - Eureka Lott 00:19, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Striking my !vote. Not taking a position at the moment. - Eureka Lott 17:45, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Campagnolo, who makes the "Ekar", a gearset for bicycles. -- 64.229.90.172 (talk) 04:43, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't have an opinion about whether the Campagnolo gearset deserves a redirect. The only languages I read are English and a little French, but from what I can tell about the id:Ekar and ms:Ekar articles, they seem to be about the international and US survey acres. Since they don't seem to discuss a particular acre unique to regions where Indonesian or Malay are spoken, I don't see a reason to keep the redirects to acre. Jc3s5h (talk) 15:46, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate (drafted) for Eker village (also spelled Ekar) and a few brief WP:DABMENTIONs (including the above-mentioned bicycle gearset), none of which seem like WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT. 59.149.117.119 (talk) 01:30, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate. Draft looks fine. CycloneYoris talk! 00:30, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Target Paul Galvin (Gaelic footballer) provides no info about Duffy other than that Paul Galvin married her. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:28, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep Delete: While target does indeed provide "virtually no information" about Duffy: there are sources to expand it (WP:WIP) and I'm doubtful she would meet NBIO, and redirect got 19 views from May 13 to yesterday. Heavy Water (talkcontribs) 19:08, 14 June 2023 (UTC) Per Tamzin. I did not see remotely that much in-depth coverage when I looked briefly. Heavy Water (talkcontribs) 02:21, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:REDLINK: [1] makes me think she's probably notable. If not, there's surely enough coverage for her work to be discussed on some article related to RTÉ Radio 1, in which case logic similar to REDLINK still applies, in that someone should write The Louise Duffy Show or List of RTÉ Radio 1 programmes or List of RTÉ Radio 1 presenters. Certainly better than defining a woman who is a public figure in her own right by her husband. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 23:52, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was keep. Albeit a not very enthusiastic keep. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 22:48, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And the mission needs a separate redirect as well Fram (talk) 16:05, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep, unambiguous, potentially helpful. J947edits 21:23, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: Even if someone types "mission" after the name of the organization, they're going to find the article without the help of this redirect. Largoplazo (talk) 21:41, 14 June 2023 (UTC) Never mind, it's reasonable as it points to a section by that name and it's a basic subtopic. Largoplazo (talk) 17:19, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Keep - I can only cite WP:CHEAP and say it's theoretically plausible that someone might, after having read the article already, want to return to it and return to a specific section. It's a slight stretch, but I don't think it's harmful to keep. If others disagree with me though, I won't be upset. Fieari (talk) 03:58, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak keep per J947 and Fieari. A7V2 (talk) 08:53, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak keep Per WP:CHEAP argument. Not misleading or nonsensical, obviously a little unlikely, but can't be much more unlikely than someone finding that absolute word jumble of an article title anyways IceBergYYC (talk) 10:08, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Long company name" + "does something uncontroversial" will rarely be a good redirect Fram (talk) 16:00, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete What is the point of having a redirect that's the name of the article with arbitrary words after it? On that basis, we could come up with thousands of equally valid redirects--which means, equally useless. Largoplazo (talk) 21:40, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Probably, although it isn't even discussed in the target article, and isn't specific to US directors anyway (neither rehearsing nor the target article). All in all a rather random redirect sentence Fram (talk) 15:54, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: Who the hell is going to search that? Tellingly, it has gotten all of four views since it was created, three of them on the day of its creation (presumably all from the creator). If we had redirects for every idea in every article, we would have insane amounts of redirects no reader ever needed but which would need to go through RfD every time a/the mention of their topics was removed from the target. Currently a redirect to Andrew Kirkaldy (racing driver).

  • This person did absolutely nothing that has to do with the Garage 59 project. It was an American-French project about testing out an American car in a French car race, this individual is British, and although a Brit (Jenson Button) did participate in the project, it was not Andrew Kirkaldy. - Ricciardo Best (talk) 13:32, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, Garage 59 is a British auto racing team owned by Alexander West, Andrew Kirkaldy and Chris Goodwin.[2] Formula Downforce (talk) 13:28, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you're referring to the NASCAR entry in this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans, I believe that to be Garage 56, but I also thought that this was Garage 56 when I first saw it as well, so I made the mixup myself as well. TartarTorte 18:55, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Delete per WP:RDAB due to the lack of a space between the title and the disambiguator. The title with the correct spacing, Jack & Jill (film), is a redirect that targets the same target as the nominated redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 21:37, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There was a blurb at the target article about this website--which appeared to have been put there by someone connected with the website. There's no indication of the significance of this website. The text was promotional, worded from the perspective of the site's promoters, and sourced only to the website itself. The icing on the cake is that the website's home page says "We are featured on Wikipedia as a premier research website for evaluating advanced democracies." So it seems to me that the text in that artice, which I've removed, was an abuse of Wikipedia for promotional purposes. I'm not sure about this redirect—I'm puzzled, as its apparent creator is a longstanding, user, albeit one whose focus is on creating redirects. So maybe this was just one of them that happens to have been an ill-advised one. But, still, since the text in the article is gone, it no longer makes sense for this redirect to target it.
