While there is a bit of evidence and usage of Newfoundland being called Talamh an Éisc, from my research it seems that "Talamh an Éisc agus Labradar" is rarely used unlike Talamh an Éisc without the last two words. TartarTorte 19:25, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Could you define "rarely used"? If it's used at all, then someone might search for it and the redirect should be kept. Furius (talk) 01:46, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I see how this redirect is mentioned a few times in the target article, but I'm not sure if the way it is mentioned constitutes a proper target to its current target. I'd think this is some sort of genetic topic and/or a topic with a more precise target, but I'm not sure. Steel1943 (talk) 20:29, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak keep- my first assumption was that this would be a WP:PANDORA case for "the [adjective] [noun]", but it seems like "the good/bad breast" (in the context of child breastfeeding) is a canonical example of the target phenomenon in psychoanalytic theory and thus could be helpful as a redirect. signed, Rosguill talk 21:37, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned in the target. Onel5969 TT me 13:49, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Change target article or delete . Note this is a fictional company named in the end credits for first couple seasons of South Park. They even used a pic of a Braniff Airlines plane. I remember some interview with Matt and Trey where they used it as an anachronistic joke. I've scanned the South Park article and can't find a mention but I might have missed it. If someone can add sourced info to that article the redirect could be changed to point there but it should not point to Trey's article. OTOH I can't imagine many readers searching for the term so I don't think it would be missed if it was deleted. MarnetteD|Talk 17:11, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Followup - There is a fairly detailed mention here Braniff International Airways#In popular culture so I would suggest the redirect point here if nothing is added to the SP article. MarnetteD|Talk 17:19, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep at Zorro but hatnote to Marcario García. A regular character in the franchise. Maye we need a disambiguation for the person and the band? Note the band is named after the Zorro character: https://www.timeout.com/newyork/music/sergent-garcia AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 16:43, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dabify?. I've drafted a dab below the redirect. There are three eligible entries (sort of: Marcario Garcia was a staff sergeant, not a sergeant, the fictional character only has a bare mention in the Zorro article, so I wouldn't have otherwise considered him for inclusion, and the band name is spelt slightly differently). Given these reservations, I don't think deletion would be particularly bad either. – Uanfala (talk) 22:27, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A staff sergeant is not a sergeant. At most, Marcario Garcia can be a See also in the dab. Although the band takes its name from the Zorro character, if we assume that there is no primary topic, then the dab will be fine. Otherwise delete, and we'll have to have two hatnotes at each page. Unnmentioned examples of greetings[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep Good afternoon and Good evening. Participants seem split between keeping as-is or restoring Spoken greeting and retargeting there. Instead, I opted for a compromise option that to me would seem to satisfy both camps: I have merged the former content to Greeting#Spoken greeting. Delete Hi there how are you. Even after the merge, this phrase still isn't mentioned. Move Good Evening (album) to Good Evening. I will add mutual hatnotes. -- Tavix (talk) 21:55, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Various examples of the target subject which are not mentioned in the target article. Having examples target pages as redirects can be considered unhelpful without mention since readers may either not find the information they are looking for or may not understand why they were redirected to the target in the event that are not in the least bit familiar with the target's subject. Steel1943 (talk) 17:24, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Good Evening (album) exists, which may affect the result of what happens with Good evening and Good evening since the title of Good Evening (album) will have unnecessary disambiguation if the aforementioned two redirects are deleted. Steel1943 (talk) 17:28, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move: Good Evening (album) to Good Evening and redirect Good evening to there. I’m still not sure about the others but I’m leaning towards a keep due to the phrases technically being a greeting. If we do keep we could probably add a list of phrases used in a greeting. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 17:33, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    I change my vote per below. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 19:22, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Revert Good afternoon and Good evening to targeting Spoken greeting; Restore Spoken greeting and AfD. Delete Hi there how are you. Retarget Good Evening to Good Evening (album). Sorry for the complex vote. The first two redirects have a long history and when were first redirects targeted Spoken greeting which itself got WP:BLARred with the redirect to Greeting. I will say Spoken greeting was not in a great state when BLARred, but in my view due to all the weird double redirects causing redirects without mention makes it seem logical to restore to at least figure out what to do with the article with consensus. Hi there how are you does not have any history like that and has always targeted greeting despite not being mentioned. Good Evening should be the album per WP:DIFFCAPS. TartarTorte 17:39, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator comment: Sounds like a good plan to me, and would have withdrawn this discussion to implement it if part of it did not include deletion of one of the titles (Hi there how are you), in addition to the consensus on Good evening currently being unclear. Steel1943 (talk) 17:43, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    I also like this plan too Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 19:05, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good Evening should not redirect to Good Evening (album). If the album is deemed the primary topic per WP:DIFFCAPS, it should be moved there, not redirected. Mdewman6 (talk) 00:03, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that too due to unnecessary disambiguation and all. Steel1943 (talk) 02:23, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep all They're harmless and directed at the page which is the most relevant target. We can add a hatnote for the album. - Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 19:18, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    "unmentioned" = harmful, per my nomination statement. Steel1943 (talk) 19:19, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree, but let's let others weigh in. Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 19:23, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion unmentioned redirects should be deleted if they are a noun (like Egg, Goomba, or McDonald’s). Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 19:25, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The rule of thumb I go by is that if the redirect is a spelling variation or synonym of the subject of the article, it's a good redirect, but if the redirect is a subtopic of the target article's subject (such as an example of the target article's subject), unless the redirect is mentioned (preferably identified) in the target article, the redirect's existence can be problematic since the target article doesn't give any hints why the redirect led the reader there. Steel1943 (talk) 09:14, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's unlikely WP will ever have articles on the phrases "Good morning" or "Good afternoon" etc., since they would most likely violate WP:DICDEF. In that case, why not redirect to the article which has the most relevant content? A list of examples can be added if needed. Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 15:20, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't recall where I said anything about articles; all I mentioned were ... mentions. Either way, leaving the redirects in place while the target article doesn't have any mentions but claiming they should be kept because mentions could be added but never adding the mentions is like putting the cart before the horse. Steel1943 (talk) 20:38, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep all: Don't know how it is in the west, but in India you hear these all the time, the entirety of student and professional life. Clear PTOPIC over some album. And obviously harmless. Don't really hear "Hi there how are you" (the exact phrase) all that much, but if the "Good {time of day}" redirects are kept, no reason to delete this one. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 07:44, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I don't think anyone has disagreed with the fact that these are examples of greetings, but rather that they are not mentioned in the target article. Without mention, the "harmless" claim is debatable. Steel1943 (talk) 09:09, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Move Good Evening (album) to Good Evening per DIFFCAPS per Mdewman and Steel. Most other all caps greetings are songs or albums too: How Are You, How Are You (disambiguation), How Do You Do, How You Been, How Have You Been, etc. Delete Hi there how are you - it does not have mention in the history of Spoken greeting nor was it a redirect to Spoken greeting. I would have gone with Delete of the remaining too as well, but I'm also OK with the Restore and AfD suggestion of Spoken greeting of Tartar, Steel and Pizza.
