Wikipedia talk:F1[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. (non-admin closure) Galobtter (pingó mió) 16:47, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This page is a redirect, but there is also other content on the page, and the #REDIRECT tag at the top makes it difficult to see that content, so I suggest that we make this into a page which is not a redirect so that the talk page's contents easily can be viewed. Stefan2 (talk) 19:04, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep as redirect. WT:F1 is a natural and useful shortcut to the Wikiproject's talk page, both linked in wikitext and put directly into a browser's address bar. The record of previous RFD discussions is of interest only to RFD regulars (who know how to get to it) and people considering renominating the main redirect (who should see it in its history). —Cryptic 19:28, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose (i.e. keep as redirect) per Cryptic. DH85868993 (talk) 21:19, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep — as pointed out, it's a natural redirect. Despite the nomination, there is no other content on the page despite an old RfD template. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 21:20, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy close; you don't need an RFD to un-redirect it. Nyttend (talk) 19:57, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • One editor, Tavix, removed the redirect and then another editor, DH85868993, reinstated it, so I don't think it would be appropriate to un-redirect something without a discussion. Since a redirected talk page doesn't have an obvious talk page, I listed the redirect here. --Stefan2 (talk) 20:28, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Nyttend, please see WP:BRD. -- Tavix (talk) 04:07, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per above. Thryduulf (talk) 11:30, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as useful redirect. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:49, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ciro Nieli[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 01:29, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No information about the subject at the redirect target other than just another project he was involved in, one of many. This should either be an article about him or deleted as a value-free redirect. Geraldo Perez (talk) 14:34, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012 TV series) which is what is more notable for. [1] [2] but he's probably due for his own page. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 17:58, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per every other instance of this happening. He has worked on multiple series, redirecting to a single one of them benefits nobody, least of all a reader who is looking for information on Ciro Nieli. —Xezbeth (talk) 10:55, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as proposer. This is like WP:EGG, any link via this redirect is a surprise as it leads to some apparently unrelated article that might mention the person with some searching but gives no more detail than what was in the article the original link appears on gives. Worse than useless. Geraldo Perez (talk) 18:39, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:F1[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Keep per WP:SNOW - there is a very clear consensus against disambiguation and no significant support for retargetting. Thryduulf (talk) 11:35, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Previous RfDs for this redirect and similar redirects:

Restore dab page: No clear primary topic, as was stressed in the previous nomination. ToThAc (talk) 03:07, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. It's a shortcut, and shortcuts are usually ambiguous. If it becomes a disambiguation page, it cannot be used as a convenient shortcut for either use. There is a prominent hatnote at the top of Wikipedia:WikiProject Formula One pointing to Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#F1. Redundant for those looking for the other use, so I don't really see an issue with the status quo. -- Tavix (talk) 13:27, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    @Tavix: 1.5 years has a way of changing one's mind, I suppose. Steel1943 (talk) 21:28, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, my mind hasn't changed. The proposal was for disambiguating, which I rather strongly disagree with. I would still support a retarget, but I don't think there would be consensus for it. -- Tavix (talk) 22:31, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tavix: My apologies for misinterpreting your comment; though I support the nominator's proposal, I agree that the alternative "retarget to Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#F1. Redundant" is preferable over the status quo. Steel1943 (talk) 01:48, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Nominator has not introduced any new argument to the last time, which not only ended with 'no consensus' but also ended up with an awful lot of questions that those wanting to change the status quo notably didn't even try to address. Pyrope 13:41, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as-is. I've accidentally linked WP:F1 in uneditable deletion summaries in the past - it's an easy mistake to make - but the hatnote on WP:WikiProject Formula One is less disruptive than yet another precariously perched atop the leaning tower of disambigs at WP:CSD. Changing it into a disambig page is worse than either: it would be no less confusing to someone following an F1 link in a deletion log than landing on the Formula One page currently is, and it destroys the utility of the shortcut for people who actually meant to point there. —Cryptic 19:21, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose There are currently only two potential targets: the CSD page and the Formula One page. A disambiguation page helps no one. Redirecting to one of the pages with a link at the top to the other page is a better solution. --Stefan2 (talk) 19:50, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Tavix & Stefan2. DH85868993 (talk) 21:19, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per previous comments. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 07:18, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate. Thanks to WP:CSD, it's a strongly ambiguous shortcut in the Wikipedia universe, and should be treated as so. For reference, see the previous discussion for this redirect. Since then, my opinion has not changed. Steel1943 (talk) 21:31, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep the current hatnote setup is sufficient, I just quickly scanned the links to this redirect and they overwhelmingly refer to the present. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 03:38, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per previous comments. SSSB (talk) 08:57, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, I seriously doubt that there will be aa project for any of the other articles listed in F1 (disambiguation). And even so, I'm pretty sure another abbreviation can be found. --NaBUru38 (talk)
  • Do not disambiguate. The speedy criterion means that this is going to be linked routinely in many locations (see Cryptic's note, for example), so while I don't have an opinion on whether the racing or the deleting ought to be considered primary, it ought to go to one or the other. The context in which it's used will make the intended meaning obvious — nobody expects that car racing is a reason to delete a file, for example, and since these are only used by project insiders (unlike Georgia, for example), we don't need to worry about confusing people who don't understand disambiguation. Just let one of these two meanings be the primary and require the users of the other to click a link, rather than making everyone click a link. Nyttend (talk) 21:34, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
