UK Independence Party leadership election, 2015[edit]

No such election as far as I can tell, though I'll admit I'm no expert on British politics. We could retarget it to the disambiguation page UK Independence Party leadership election, 2016 if we want to treat this the way we do films that end up released the year after, where we regard it as a plausible error or typo. We could also delete. I'm good with either. --BDD (talk) 19:44, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete UKIP rejected Farage's proposed resignation in 2015. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/UK Independence Party leadership election, 2015. Suggesting that a leadership election happened in 2015 is therefore misleading. IffyChat -- 12:14, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak delete. I think ideally we might include a sentence in the target section stating that the anticipated leadership election did not take place, which would provide clarity to the reader who arrives there via this redirect. But I haven't been able to find any sources that would support that claim – presumably because the leadership election was only ever anticipated, and never planned, and so never cancelled. Retargeting to a different leadership election would be more confusing than keeping this I think, as the 2016 leadership elections occurred in very different circumstances (and UKIP is now holding its fourth leadership election in two years, so accommodating for plausible errors or typos would similarly probably cause more confusion than clarity). – Arms & Hearts (talk) 15:25, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pari (Not a Fairytale)[edit]

The result of the discussion was keep. In the absence of any harm being done by the existence of the redirect, the fact that people find it plausible carries much more weight that the redirect's non-conformance to expected formatting patterns. Unnecessary redirect that doesn't conform to MoS for film titles Krimuk2.0 (talk) 19:28, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Krimuk2.0 (talk) 06:49, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Pari: Not a Fairytale has been created as a redirect. -- Tavix (talk) 21:10, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't get it. So what about the article that I had created 8 months ago? Aniruddh 07:18, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as a plausible search term for which no reason for deletion has been provided (redirects are not required to conform to the manual of style and are not required to be necessary). But what is actually going on here? @Krimuk2.0: it looks like you've overwritten the redirect previously at Pari (2018 Indian film) with the content of Pari (Not a Fairytale), then made the latter a redirect and immediately nominated it for deletion? Is that correct? Because that isn't how we move articles, and at present it's probably a copyright violation per WP:CWW, and might require a history merge. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 15:09, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and fixed the cut-and-paste move. The only history left associated with this redirect are the subsequent moves and the RfD tagging. -- Tavix (talk) 21:10, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. The MoS for film titles do not conform to redirects because they are not titles—they are search terms. "Not a Fairytale" is the subtitle for the film, and I can see this being a plausible way of rendering the film's title and subtitle. -- Tavix (talk) 21:10, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Axe murderer[edit]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Axe murder. (I'm "withdrawing" this.) (Also, the fact that Axe murder even exists is may be a bit of a WP:SURPRISE, but that's a discussion for another day.) Steel1943 (talk) 13:04, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Somewhat surprisingly (but quite intentionally), the word "axe" is nowhere in the target article. Steel1943 (talk) 19:23, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Even if "bump off" is a plausible synonym for murder (see below), that in no way means they are synonyms in other uses of the word. A bump off of crows is just silly. -- Tavix (talk) 19:28, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. In the unlikely event that there were multiple articles called "bump off", they wouldn't feature on the disambiguation page for "murder". —Xezbeth (talk) 05:22, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This redirect is a vague, ambiguous phrase that apparently has different meanings in American and British styles of English. Also, it seems to be the name of a brand of hair conditioner. Steel1943 (talk) 19:21, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom as no notable media with such a title. Could also mean bumping someone off a road. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 01:43, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Term not mentioned in target article. Smacks of Recentism - Google books search finds the phrase in other historical contexts. If it's really a well-used term, please add to the target article. PamD 08:51, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Appears to come from two sources - Benjamin Wittes at Lawfare Blog, and a bunch of French-language news sources. I personally like the term, but that's not a great reason to use it. And as a French-speaker, I also know that "russe" wouldn't normally be capitalized. Not sure how this works though. Is this a voting sort of thing like deletion? I say WEAK KEEP, but I'd agree that some news sources need to be added to the article to justify it. Juansmith (talk) 18:47, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak keep. I couldn't find any English-language sources using the phrase in any context other than the target (Google Books turns up several results which, when one uses the "Search in this book" feature, don't seem to contain the phrase – does anyone know what that's about?), and I can imagine someone reading the Wittes piece or another work referring to it and being unsure of the meaning of the phrase. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 20:13, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Keep - As far as publications go, I'm seeing some books using this term before the 2016-2018 political events (such as in this book about Jean Jaurès). Still, this seems highly associated with recent history, and I'm inclined to leave things as is, though I'm not sure. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 17:56, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I would consider the use of the term (albeit while referring back to the Lawfare Blog) by Slate.com (here) and this book to be signs that it's not that obscure. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 17:59, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: This is leaning towards "keep", but with opinions being weak, a bit more discussion would be nice.

  • Weak delete. The major languages in the United States are English and Spanish, and Russia's major language is Russian, but the redirect is in French. This smells of WP:FORRED. Steel1943 (talk) 20:10, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Other uses in major searches outweigh a niche, fanciful usage today. --BDD (talk) 16:58, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Seems a rather unlikely search term. I mean, you'd have to somehow know the name, complete with correct capitalization, but not which way round the two halves of it go... Thegreatluigi (talk) 01:43, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
