KasyKacey (Battlestar Galactica)[edit]

The nominated redirect was Re-targeted to KASY-TV. -- JLaTondre 03:49, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

redirect name is too general, and not a normal variant of Kacey Zyxwvutsrqp 23:10, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete Without knowing how it's spelt, anyone searching would need the search page anyway. Not an intuitive redirection. --BlueSquadronRaven 04:40, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Milwaukee Normal SchoolUniversity of Wisconsin-Milwaukee[edit]

The nominated redirect was Kept. -- JLaTondre 03:50, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Very confusing redirect. There is no such entity as Milwaukee Normal School. Miaers 19:06, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per my comments immediately below. Gavia immer (u|t|c) 19:40, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment- What's the point to create a redirect for something doesn't even exist? Miaers 20:12, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Keep That's part of what redirects are for: to lead people to the correct entity. Redirects are not tainted, not shameful, not deprecated, not deserving of being avoided or deleted whenever possible!--Orange Mike 20:40, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete-This is so funny. What did you get the shameful thing? Miaers 20:45, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Because you keep arguing against the redirects as if they were evil rather than useful?--Orange Mike 20:53, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete- Milwaukee State Normal School is not an another name or synomy for UWM. It doesn't justify for the reasons to create a redirect. Miaers 21:19, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep according to the school's website this is a former name for the institution. If someone wants to write a separate article (preferrably a section of the main one), that would be an even better target, but for now this one will do. -- nae'blis 16:15, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There is a history section in the main article already, referencing all these old names; the old names also occur elsewhere outside Wikipedia; but as has been pointed out by Miaers, universities don't need separate articles on their histories.--Orange Mike 19:35, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Milwaukee State Normal SchoolUniversity of Wisconsin-Milwaukee[edit]

The nominated redirect was Kept. -- JLaTondre 03:51, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Very confusing redirect. Milwaukee State Normal School and UW-Milwaukee are not the same. Many institutions consider UW-Milwaukee was founded in 1956. Miaers 19:03, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep both of the above, since the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee does claim to trace its history back that far. If nominator believes this is untrue, he is welcome to discuss it (with verifiable sources) in the article itself. Gavia immer (u|t|c) 19:40, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment -These redirects are totally unnecessary. There are no articles has these names wikilinked. People can also get UW-Milwaukee if they search Milwaukee State Normal School in Wikipedia, because this term exists in the UW-Milwaukee article. It is totally ridiculous to create a seperate article because of these redirects. Miaers 20:03, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep both of these. These are legitimate names of the institution eventually became UWM (by joining with the University of Wisconsin's Extension program in Milwaukee) in 1956. The same buildings and in some cases the same library books are still in use here (I'm typing this from the UWM student union). A redirect is designed to simplify things; expecting people to go through a search process is unnecessarily burdensome. There is nothing embarassing or shameful about having redirects! Redirects are not just for wikilinks; they are for people looking for the alternative term(s). And there is no law that says if there is a redirect, somebody has to create a new page; I don't know why Miaers keeps saying that there is.--Orange Mike 20:38, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete-There is a Wikipedia admisnistrator there suggesting to create a seperate article for UM-Milwaukee's history because of the unnecessary redirects you created. Miaers 20:45, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"there"? Where?--Orange Mike 20:53, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think they mean me. Just to clarify (mainly for the newbies involved), I am not acting as an admin on this matter. I did first get involved as part of the team that processes Wikipedia:requested moves, but I have no authority to use admin powers in the following debate, and no other special priviledges. Andrewa 03:02, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just want you to know it is very difficult to talk to you in a respectful way. You can see the talk page of UW-Milwaukee article. Miaers 21:04, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete- As a student currently at UWM (check the IP if you need confirmation) I feel I should check in. First, this is my first posting in any matter for deletion discussion so I apologize if I am posting incorrectly. Secondly, I have never seen any university material official or unofficial calling the UW- Milwaukee by that name in its modern incarnation, and a quick search on our intranet turned up not a single link. The Normal school was at one point a milwaukee institution as far as I recall but if a search of our own materials turns up nothing, I would venture that the redirect is of minimal to nonexistant use. In my opinion redirecting to an article with a barely-connected name is bound to cause more confusion than it helps prevent.

Wintermut3 01:15, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You misunderstand, Wintermut. If people go to the archaic name, the redirect sends them to the UWM page. (Say a scholar is looking for information about the school Goldie Mabowecz attended; if there's a redirect, they come to UWM instead of getting a "there is no such page" message.) As far as UWM internal references, see: [1] [2] [3] [4] (those were the first four matches on the UWM intranet search bar at the www.uwm.edu home page for "Milwaukee Normal School"; it says there are about 1360). --Orange Mike 14:28, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I understand, and I know there are historical references, but in my opinion that might warrent a seperate article, heck, I'd be willing to write one, but UWM is not the Milwaukee Normal School as it stands now, and no internal literature refers to it as such, it might warrent a link to a section in the history of the school if such a redirect could be made, or a seperate article, but as it stands it seems confusing to me. Wintermut3 06:26, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak keep - I'm not seeing any evidence that this was a former name for the school, but it might be a plausible search term. Redirects are extremely cheap though, so keep as long as it's not interfering with anything else. -- nae'blis 16:15, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - I don't think the history of UW-Milwaukee is something deserves a seperate article. I can't find any University in Wikipedia that has a seperate article for its history. Is there any rule here that says if Milwaukee State Normal School is redirected to UW-Milwaukee, then "Milwaukee State Normal School" should be highlighted in the article? If so I will consider it interfering with the quality of the article and recommend it deleted. Miaers 19:22, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct, Miaers; not even Oxford or Bologna have separate articles on their histories. The suggestion that we need one was slightly silly, really. There is no rule, repeat none, saying that if there is a redirect, then the target article needs to do anything whatsoever about it. As nae said, Wikipedia:Redirects are cheap; there is no reason to delete them.--Orange Mike 19:32, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jesus Christ. Are you an administrator or something. It is better for the administrator to tell whether there is such a law. Miaers 19:34, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the debate was retargeted to fix the double redirect. -- nae'blis 16:15, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

very confusing redirect.type in rey mysterio and it goes to this redirect which redirects to the page.eliminating this will speed up the process of getting to the page. The Pink Panther 02:11, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - I already fixed the double redirect. In the future, you don't need to bring such things here; you're allowed (and encouraged) to fix them yourself. Gavia immer (u|t|c) 18:05, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
