The sample is used in "Electronic dance music" (genre) and "King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown" (album). I'm not confident that the sample complies with WP:NFCC#8 and WP:NFCC#3a. The critical commentary in each article is insufficient to support the sample containing music and random vocals. Furthermore, there are too many samples in the genre article. • Delete - There is no detailed purpose specified for either non-free usage rationales. For the album article, "The sound of the song" is the stated purpose and there is literally no commentary whatsoever about the song in the article that would explain why we need to hear the "sound of the song". For electronic dance, the purpose is "Sample of notable song". Simply stating this is a sound sample is a description of what the file is and not a purpose. And in any case, the song is dropped into the article with no reference to it whatsoever. These are very clear failures to meet WP:NFCC#8. -- Whpq (talk) 16:36, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The sample is used in "Rapper's Delight" (song) as part of infobox, "Hip hop" section of the "Electronic dance music" article without a rationale, and "Sugarhill Gang (album)" without sufficient critical commentary (methinks). If the uses in those article fail WP:NFCC#3a and WP:NFCC#8, then the sample should be either deleted or removed from one of the articles. George Ho (talk) 06:05, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:Donna Summer I Feel Love.ogg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Ianmacm (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Uses of the sample in "I Feel Love" (song) as part of infobox, "Disco" (genre), and "Disco" section of "Electronic dance music" (genre) must be evaluated for their compliance with WP:NFCC#8 and WP:NFCC#3a. If any use fails, then the sample must be removed from at least one of the articles. George Ho (talk) 06:24, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: It's ok for use in "I Feel Love", which is the article that I uploaded it for. It was never intended to be used in the two other articles mentioned.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:36, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • The obvious solution is to remove it from "Disco" (genre), and "Disco" section of "Electronic dance music" because its use in these articles is largely decorative. The specific use of the Moog synthesizers, sequencers etc is discussed in "I Feel Love" so it is within fair use guidelines there. If no-one objects, I'm going to remove it from "Disco" (genre), and "Disco" section of "Electronic dance music" because these aren't really needed.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 10:45, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've removed it from "Disco" (genre), and "Disco" section of "Electronic dance music" as it was never intended to be used in these articles. It is discussed in detail at "I Feel Love" and this is now the only place where the audio clip can be found.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 08:02, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously it belongs in the Disco article, but as the article is unwritten to the extent that it does not cover the songs contribution to establishing the music form's credibility, especially from the early 90s to present, is another matter. Pace supporting text, for which there are numerous sources, fine for now with removal. Ceoil (talk) 23:36, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
When I upload an audio clip from a song, it is intended for the article about the song. The problem with using it in other articles is that it sets off NFCC debates like this one.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 09:05, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah but, by uploading you loose any rights as to how its used, and my feeling is that its more than defensible in those pages. Nobody is saying it should be removed from the song article, not even the on a spree George Ho. Apologies if this causes stress, but readers are better served if we have it on these other two highly relevant pages. Ceoil (talk) 00:37, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Quoting Ceoil: by uploading you loose any rights as to how its used. Untrue; anybody has reservations on how non-free content is used. Consensus and WP:NFCC are part of the result of the discussion and should be enforced by anybody, including you and the uploader and admins. No matter how much you agree or disagree, consensus wins out. I hope you won't (try to) reinsert the audio sample in other articles after the results. Will you? George Ho (talk) 03:12, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously I can't control what happens to a non-free audio clip once it is uploaded, but due to basic NFCC rules it is not a good idea to use it in multiple articles. If a person wants to hear a brief audio clip of "I Feel Love", the best and standard way to do it is in the article about the song.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:34, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Acousmana: I've explained my reasons for listing the samples here, but I've wondered whether you've bothered reading them and reviewing the articles I've mentioned. In this case, I mentioned that the sample may be supported by critical commentary in the articles about Glitter soundtrack and/or "Loverboy" by Mariah Carey. However, you've just randomly copied-and-pasted your rationale in almost every other listing, and I think your rationale would come across as sarcastic (if not passively aggressive). Also, you've given me a Barnstar with your sarcastic (and possibly passive aggressive) tone and rationale at my talk page, which I reverted and found unwelcoming. Maybe you should reconsider votes if you don't take them seriously. George Ho (talk) 19:20, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I 100% support your effort to expunge all audio examples relevent to the history of electronic dance music, I applaud your commendable effort and your willingness to exact the full force of WP:NFCC#8 on all offending items. Thank you. Acousmana (talk) 13:55, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Acousmana: You keep missing the point with these repetitive sarcastic replies. It is OK to have an audio clip from a song in the article about the song itself. It isn't OK to have the use of these clips spread over multiple articles.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 15:11, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
