Credo Reference [1] (formerly Xrefer) has generously agreed to donate 100 free user accounts to Wikipedians on a first come, first served basis. These are not trial accounts: they're full "Credo 250" accounts intended to help you in your day-to-day research as Wikipedia editors. The accounts provide access to a total of more than two million entries from countless reference works (see the full list of titles available). There are no strings attached.

The process for distributing these accounts was concluded in March 2010, and the archived record of it can be found below. If you expected to receive an account but have not received it yet, please email <erik at wikimedia dot org>.

Participants in this program were asked whether they would like to join a public, Wikimedia-hosted discussion list to report issues, request new reference sources, explore new partnership ideas, etc. This discussion list is WikimediaReference-l, and it continues to be open for subscription and is publicly archived.

To be eligible for a free account, you need to have made at least 600 article namespace edits, and you need to have been a Wikipedia editor for at least six months. You aren't allowed to share your account with anyone, and you aren't allowed to plagiarize the copyrighted content from those reference works. It's a research tool only.

To get an account:

  1. Count your edits to check your eligibility;
  2. Complete the application form;
  3. Sign your username below.

Please perform the steps in this order. If you're eligible and among the first 100, we will email your account information to you shortly.
