Karrmann → Mcloud1

[edit]
Quoting from the instructions at the top of the page: Please note that renaming users puts a large load on the database. Please do not request a rename unless it is necessary. Are you certain that you want to permanently change your name? We may not entertain additional requests from your new account in the future based on a vacillating fancy. =Nichalp «Talk»= 05:07, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not done For security reasons, you have to request the rename from the account that you want renamed. If your account is currently blocked, place the {{unblock}} template on your talk page with a note pointing here, and an admin will unblock you so you can come and sign here with the account. Essjay (Talk) 07:45, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand the reason given; if you're planning to continue to use this account, I'm not sure we can do this rename, as it would certainly be difficult for other users to interact with. Essjay (Talk) 03:34, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Meithal → J.M. Tavernier

[edit]

Not done Requesting it here only gets you renamed on this wiki, not on the others. It might be better for you to wait until Single Login if you want to merge all of your accounts. Angela . 11:53, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Au contraire; it would probably speed up the merge process if you've got all your accounts under the same name, with the same email address set in preferences; this allows the first pass to find them and associate them all. 164.11.204.56 08:00, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

StanVman → stanvman

[edit]

Not done It is not possible to have a username that starts with a lowercase letter. Essjay (Talk) 03:11, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Open poppyseed → Open_sesame

[edit]

Not done The MediaWiki software does not recognize the underscore as a valid character for usernames; it is a part of URLs to denote a space, so the software does not regard it as anything more than a normal space. There is no difference between "Open sesame" and "Open_sesame"; both are considered the same username, so it is not possible to rename to that name, as it already exists. Essjay (Talk) 03:20, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Travisbuchanan → Yourfriendsam

[edit]

Not done You must make your request while logged in as the username that is to be changed, for security purposes. Essjay (Talk) 03:28, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deathrocker → Gold

[edit]

Not done Username already exists. Essjay (Talk) 03:30, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't already exist, acording to this. - Deathrocker 05:16, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It does according to this, which has been around since the beginning of Wikipedia, unlike the new user log, which doesn't record accounts created before the extension was written last year. It's confirmed definitively by the renameuser extension, which threw an error when I tried the rename; I can provide a screenshot if you're still skeptical. Essjay (Talk) 05:22, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OCCAdmin → OCC01

[edit]

It was suggested I rename: "Hello! Calling yourself admin is not a good idea as some editors could mistake you for an administrator. You can go to WP:CHU and request a change of username before you are blocked for possible impersonation. Regards, (aeropagitica) 23:10, 7 December 2006 (UTC) I agree. Alternatively, if you really want to keep this username you should put a note on your user page clarifying that you are not a Wikipedia administrator. Wikipedia policy forbids usernames that imply administrative status on Wikipedia. (I'm sure you were unaware of this and didn't intend to mislead anyone.)--Srleffler 02:08, 8 December 2006 (UTC)"

Please rename to "OCC01"

Please use the template. Using the template provides quick-links that greatly benefit the bureaucrat performing the request and reduce the time required to do so dramatically. James_Maxx → James_Maxx™

[edit]

Not done Your username is already unique inasmuch as there's nobody else with the same or similar username. There are two important points I'd like to inform you about: 1) using symbols, or long sequences of numbers (see the request two threads above) or anything along those lines, makes it difficult for people to reach you (or at least it makes it harder), since most will not be able to type immediately the "™" symbol that you want included. If this were to be done, you are almost certain to get complaints about it at some point along the line. 2) You already know this, since you're doing it right now, but still, I thought it would be worth stressing that you can include the "™" in your signature by editing your Preferences, without the need to include it in your username. Believe me, that's a much more recommendable course of action. Redux 11:41, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Donausten → Gilgamesh

[edit]
  • Current name: Donausten (talk contribs)
  • Requested name: Gilgamesh (change username)
  • Reason: The article is that of a nude model, a close friend of mine, whom I help out as a favor, but I do not want my name associated for personal and business purposes. -- Don Austen
 Not done - we already have a User:Gilgamesh. Warofdreams talk 02:06, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Which is also not a good thing. Gilgamesh is a real historical figure (a Sumerian king), and we should avoid usernames using the names of real people of prominence. Redux 13:08, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

QLDer86 → OzWestWingFan

[edit]
Not done If it's just a question of not liking your username, and considering that you have only 35 edits with it, of which 16 are to the account's own user page and one to post this request, which means that you only have 18 edits for everything else on Wikipedia and those are distributed in just 4 articles and 2 talk pages, you can simply create a new account with the name that you want, then turn the user page of your previous account into a redirect to your new account, or post a note to the fact that you have changed your identity. Redux 18:37, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Qzzz → っ (review previous change)

[edit]

There is no Changing Username Review, so I'm bringing this up on this page.

This user was forced to change their username due to a misguided en.wikipedia policy that previously stated that non-latin usernames are not permitted. However, this is the same user across many wikimedia projects:

m:Requests_for_permissions#User:っ

Note that this username is perfectly correct on this user's home wiki (ja.wikipedia).

Consensus on meta between several wiki communites has it that this forced name change should not happen. Bureaucrats and stewards on other wikis have stated that they are loath to accept it. When Single User Login is introduced, the SUL system and policy will -among many things, as part of its normal function- enforce reinstatement of this username on en.wikipedia in software. We are in the process of revising en.wikipedia policy to bring it in line.

In the mean time, the old username should be reinstated as quickly as possible, if only because otherwise the SUL-changeover will make a change harder at a later date. (IIRC it would create a new account っ, but leave all edits attributed to Qzzz, if that account still existed at that time).

I think that we should not accept any further requests based on the now hopefully deprecated non-latin name policy, as per the request by Aphaia to all wiki-communities on meta.

See also: discussion at Wikipedia talk:Username#Non-latin characters and Unified Login

If nescessary, please also contact this user. In fact, that would probably be a good idea. :-)

Feel free to contact me for more information, if available.

Kim Bruning 18:44, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Strong support for this request. +sj + 07:27, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I'd like to request changing the username back to "っ".--っ (Tsutsu) 05:34, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not done I do oppose the name change, and have stated it in the discussion page listed above. We don't have a set policy in place to change usernames to non-Latin scripts at the moment. The debate is ongoing, not deprecated, and till them, I'd prefer to keep this in abeyance. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:07, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If abeyance means what I think it does, maybe you should not mark this with a big red X. If you think it properly should have a big red X on it, please clarify what the status of this request is. The user in question is en-2, and this native speaker is confused as to what you mean.--Birgitte§β ʈ Talk 21:56, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The "big red 'x'" just comes with the {{not done}} template, which we use because of the bot that does the automated archiving of the page. It represents no statement of any kind. Redux 23:16, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Onur_h → shishkebab

[edit]
  • Current name: Onur_h (talk contribs)
  • Requested name: shishkebab (change username)
  • Reason: Firstly, my old username reveals too much of my identity, and now I realise how dangerous this is for someone my age. There's also the fact that some of the immature bullies at my school have started searching for victims' names on Google and already one of them has had to undergo so much embarrassment and bullying. I searched for my name on Google, and the first link I found was to my user page. Sure, you may tell me that if they do end up finding me, that I should ignore it, but I don't take any joke too well. So please, change my username! -- Onur 13:30, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Not done You probably didn't forget it. Our software does not allow for a username to start with a lowercase letter. The first letter must be capitalized. Since it appears that the essence of your request would be to remove the capital "T", we can't help you, sorry. However, if you would like to have the "3" included (but again, you must keep the capital "T"), please let us know, so that we can look into it. Thank you. Redux 23:24, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tajik-afghan → Tassadar

[edit]
Please use the template. Or, more accurately, please use the template correctly. You didn't copy the standard template filling it out with the necessary information, then attempted to insert the links manually [1], and as a result, the template was malformed and the links are inaccurate. For now,  Not done, but please repost using the template as explained in the instructions above, so that the request can be processed. Thank you. Redux 23:37, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tajik-afghan → Tassadar

Not done Sorry, the username exists. You'd have to choose another username. Use the link alongside the Requested username field to check for availability. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:38, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AlexanderBell2404 → julianmcbouch

[edit]
Not done I'm sorry, but you misspelled your username twice (inverted two letters and capitalized a letter – the "B" – that is not capitalized). As a result of that, the links on the template are inaccurate and will not work properly. You need to fill out the template with your exact username, and also make sure that the new name you want is exactly as you want it, or you might be renamed to the wrong username. For instance: notice that, as explained in the instructions, the first letter of a username must be capitalized, due to a limitation of our software. Therefore, your new name would have to be Julianmcbouch. Can you please repost, using the template again, and this time use your exact username, so that we will have the correct links to process your request? Thank you. Redux 14:20, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Your only edit with that account was to post this request. That being the case, you can simply create a new account with the name that you want and start editing from it. If you'd prefer, turn the user page and talk page of your present account into a redirect to your new account, or post a note to your change of identity, so as to associate the two accounts.
