Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NARROWCAT User:Namiba 22:27, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, it only contains a subcategory (which is a perfectly valid category in itself) and an article about a multi-purpose stadium. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:15, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Upmerge many "Colleges in foo" categories for districts of Bangladesh (second-level) to division level (first-level) per WP:NARROWCAT. –Aidan721 (talk) 20:40, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge per nom and nominate schools by district too. District is just a too detailed level for this kind of topics. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:18, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Cfd discussion
Nominator's rationale: Opposed at speedy. Rename per WP:C2C. Omnis Scientia (talk) 22:59, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Note: As for as I can tell, there is no English variety here. "Race caller" is used for more than just horse racing and is not limited to Australia. Also, the use of the terms "commentators", "broadcasters", and "announcers" for sports categories depends on the sport. Omnis Scientia (talk) 23:04, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: to me the use of "announcers" in Category:American sports announcers‎ and "commentators" in Category:Australian sports commentators looks like a WP:ENVAR difference, but I would welcome input from Australian English speakers. TSventon (talk) 00:23, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TSventon, that is a seperate matter entirely. I'm not asking to change the name of the container categories but to make it consistant with its sister categories. For example, Category:British sports broadcasters has a category for Category:British association football commentators; Category:American sports announcers has Category:American soccer commentators. Despite nationality cats using different terms, the names are consistant with Category:Association football commentators (minus the obvious difference between "soccer" and "association football").
Hence, this one should go by consistancy with sports categories, and this one should be Category:Australian horse racing announcers to match Category:American horse racing announcers and Category:Canadian horse racing announcers. The British one needs splitting between writers and announcers and, for that, I'm waiting for another Cfd to close. Omnis Scientia (talk) 08:58, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Omnis Scientia, sports announcers seems to be North American English, so under WP:ENVAR it should not be used in British and Australian categories. The subcategories of Category:Sports commentators by sport appear to reflect ENVAR: American dominated sports such as baseball use "announcers" and others use "commentators" or "broadcasters". I am hoping for a third opinion, hopefully with knowledge of Australian English. TSventon (talk) 22:44, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marcocapelle, what do you think about this? I don't think this is a WP:ENVAR issue. I'm merely going by what the more common form is in the parent category and by the fact that each "commentator by sports" category uses a different term (see Category:Sports commentators by sport). Omnis Scientia (talk) 08:18, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would expect "commentators" per siblings in Category:Australian sports commentators. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:35, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marcocapelle, and the other sibling categories in Category:Horse racing writers and broadcasters? Granted the category is a mess but if it should be "commentators" then it should be for all, not just Australia. For all other sports commentator categories, it is consistancy with sport, not consistancy with nationality categories. Omnis Scientia (talk) 07:58, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Omnis Scientia: they may all become commentators, unless there is an ENGVAR issue (announcers preferred in North America?). Marcocapelle (talk) 08:07, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marcocapelle, I don't see any preference. In fact, I would say "announcers" is the least commonly used of the terms. American sportscasters are more often called "broadcasters" and "commentators" than "announcers". Omnis Scientia (talk) 08:23, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, as someone who watches quite a lot sports, "announcers" is definitely the least the common term; "broadcasters" and "commentators" are used even by the people in the profession. And in North America, the preference is definitely "broadcasters". Omnis Scientia (talk) 08:27, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But the question here is whether the consistancy should be with the "nationality" category or with the "sport" category. As far as I can see, most nationality categories aren't consistant but sports categories are all the same. Omnis Scientia (talk) 08:40, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
      • That is an odd phenomenon. You'd normally expect it the other way around. If commentators is ok in North America too then it can probably be standardized at commentators across sports and countries together. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:20, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please ignore everything I said above. Only now I start to realize that this is about live commentators as "personnel of the race", which may be regarded as something completely different than television commentators who are media personnel. I am not saying now that "commentators" is necessarily wrong here, but at least there is a fair possibility that terminology in this case may deviate from other sports. Category:Personifications in mythology and religion[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: no consensus. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 07:47, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: I don't necessarily disagree that this category could use subcategorizing. However, bundling mythology with religion is perhaps insulting to some. They don't necessarily have anything to do with each other, though some entities can be both. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 01:20, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Keep/oppose. I don't know how much of a real distinction can be made between mythology and religion, Greek mythology = ancient Greek pagan religion for example. And the subcategories here are all basically listing deities that are also personifications of something. AHI-3000 (talk) 02:24, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See Personification in the Bible and Statue of Hope. This would technically belong there, but mythology is generally seen as an insult when used to describe modern religions, as it can mean "fictitious". ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 04:37, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We already have articles on Jewish mythology, Christian mythology, Islamic mythology, Hindu mythology, and Buddhist mythology. "Modern" religions have their own myths, just like any other. Dimadick (talk) 08:07, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am looking at some articles in the Greek and Roman subfolders. There are many about a "god(dess) and personification of topic" which makes me wonder about the usefulness of the categories. Deities were too often deities of something. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:11, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think you might have a point, deities in just about every animistic or polytheistic religion are oftentimes personifications of specific concepts, see Category:Deities by association. AHI-3000 (talk) 20:16, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oceanian diasporas[edit]

Nominator's rationale: It does not seem practical or efficient to split by region content relative to Oceania outside of the region. Content ends up being placed in duplicate or wrong locations, e.g. the categories for the Marshallese, Samoan and Tongan diasporas or American people of Oceanian descent are found in the Pacific Islands category instead of the regional one, and e.g. KNDI is weirdly placed in Micronesia although this radio station explicitly has programming relative to e.g. Tonga, Samoa, Okinawa, Hawaii etc. which are not in Micronesia. Nominator's rationale: Really?
More seriously, this is a redundant category with only three redirects and Gregory Kohs was not a vandal to begin with, so would only properly have two. * Pppery * it has begun... 00:24, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, while I expected it might be useful as a maintenance category, the category does not contain any user pages. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:31, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marcocapelle: A category with this name was previously used as a maintenance category, but it was deleted after a discussion in 2006. Do you think this category could be useful if repurposed as a maintenance category? CJ-Moki (talk) 07:34, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, as either a category for articles, or a category for user pages. As for articles, we don't really have articles on vandals, and more nuanced detail can be found under the Wikipedia controversy categories. I can imagine several problems arising from saying some identifiable entity is a vandal in perpetuity. For a maintenance category, I think the previous CfD had it right. I would point out that we have Category:Blocked Wikipedia users. I'm not a huge fan, but it seems to have a couple of specific uses. As a wider point, using the WP:DENY philosophy, it's not really a good idea to label people as vandals because people will seek to add themselves. But above all, a maintenance category such as this serves no useful purpose. Vandals are everywhere, I've blocked several already today, and we don't need to have a list of them. -- zzuuzz (talk) 12:22, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Waggers has suggested this could be kept as a hidden category. CJ-Moki (talk) 17:03, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. WP:DENY is a problem, even if it is a hidden category. It also strikes me as useless: what are people supposed to do with the knowledge User xyz is a vandal? They should already be blocked, and undoing their damage is trivial via WP:MASSROLLBACK: there is no "cleanup" that would be needed. This also just feel yucky: do we really need a badge of shame?
