The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 16:48, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Delete per WP:SMALLCAT. I tried to expand the category, but I only found two members. The team itself does not currently have an article, and it plays in a second-tier league, so many of its players are not sufficiently notable for an article on Wikipedia. Nominator's rationale: Non-defining category. We should not categorize people based on being subjected to violence and harassment by internet randos. Zaathras (talk) 16:21, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Not a defining characteristic. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:23, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment, the category has been emptied. E.g. Felicia Day and Brianna Wu were in here. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:27, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep We categorize people based on being subjected to violence in particular events (see Category:Genocide victims and its subcategories such as Category:People who died in the Armenian genocide and Category:People who died in the Holocaust), even if these events were/are obviously much greater in scope and intensity of violence than Gamergate. CJ-Moki (talk) 16:39, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Comparing victims of the Holocaust to those who were harassed by random trolls on the internet is quite beyond the pale. Not even apples and oranges, this is apples and rubber tyres. Also, note to the eventual closing admin, CJ-Moki is the category creator. Zaathras (talk) 16:45, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We should not categorize people based on being subjected to violence and harassment by internet randos I think we already do that. CJ-Moki (talk) 16:48, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you can't discern the difference between a generalized topic and an ephemeral online mob that came and went, then, that's on you. Zaathras (talk) 17:10, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:BLP imposes a higher standard for currently living people. Lizthegrey (talk) 19:36, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as per WP:AVOIDVICTIM. Lizthegrey (talk) 17:37, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment The nominator has preemptively emptied this category. Liz Read! Talk! 01:19, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I felt it was a BLP concern, yes, to label someone a target of a harassment campaign in this manner. Zaathras (talk) 02:26, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as non-defining. What's next, Targets of prank phone calls? —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 02:30, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:SMALLCAT is also relevant, since there are/were only a handful of truly notable Gamergate targets. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 23:00, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as non-defining. I don't quite understand the appeal to WP:AVOIDVICTIM here, as it doesn't appear to touch on categorization, but I do think that this category does not contain any individuals for whom it is defining. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 05:10, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Either it isn't defining in which case, as you point out, there's already policy saying not to add the cat, or it is defining and they're not notable for other things, in which case AVOIDVICTIM applies. It's a two pronged argument you're right I should have spelled out better. Lizthegrey (talk) 15:07, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Category:Gamergate (harassment campaign) already exists. So there seems to be no reason to create a new one since this is a generally ambiguous topic. Jennytacular (talk) 18:19, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Merge per nom. It is not a natural merge target, but it happens to fit the only article well. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:30, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename to "Russian invasion of Ukraine" (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 16:57, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Consistency with the parent article, which has been moved to Russian invasion of Ukraine (2022–present). While this is eligible under WP:C2D, I anticipate this request may be controversial, so I am intentionally opening it as a discussion. Elli (talk | contribs) 09:43, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. Category is empty. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 16:58, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT — mountaineering charity event. Not really a Category:Sports competitions by sport, and climbing is currently a parent of mountaineering.
William Allen Simpson (talk) 15:24, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • No, mountaineering is a subcategory of climbing, so mountaineering is more specific than climbing. The root of the inheritance tree is the more general.
    William Allen Simpson (talk) 09:53, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • @William Allen Simpson: then it seems that Climbing should neither be a parent category nor a subcategory of Mountaineering and the article should be moved to both. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:18, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • Comment by creator - You should proceed with extreme caution - I just checked here and realized that at least five existing articles can be included into this cat, and additional two are linked to other lang-wikies, which means could be eventually trans.ed or created in Eng. Thanks.--౪ Santa ౪99° 08:16, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The question, however, is "do these villages have something meaningful in common besides their shared name?" Even if we can show that these were all Katuns in medieval times, does that have any lasting impact today that is precise and significant enough to build a category? Pichpich (talk) 19:02, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
These articles on villages are not the most fortunate choice for my argument because they could be few sentences long, but villages are all originating from historical katuns, no doubt about that, how is this described, if at all, within the articles that's the main question. We have even better candidates in quite a number of articles which could closer correspond to historicity, which should in reality be our defining characteristic, and these are articles on certain tribes from Montenegro, Old Herzegovina, Dalmatia, Herzegovina - these tribe-articles are all history articles on mostly Vlach katun-tribes. They would make real candidates; however, I had no time to go through and check how they describe this connection - I wouldn't be surprised if some could be immediately categorized as Category:Katuns based on prose and sources. If any one ever gets into this with more time and interest, we could be needing this category, if not right away then as soon as connection is established in prose. ౪ Santa ౪99° 03:30, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, not a defining characteristic of the villages mentioned on the dab page. We do not categorize based on name alone. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:01, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete — no need to categorize proto-villages by type of social organization. An well annotates list is sufficient.

Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT (2 subcats 0 items), and entirely redundant because its parent Category:Gaels already has both its subcats, Category:Celtic rulers is already being CfD'd, and Category:Irish kings is a wrong parent because it can't be a parent to Category:Gaelic monarchs in Scotland. The result of the discussion was: rename. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 17:00, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: All people in this category are identified as "kings", "queens", or "chieftains". Perhaps Epaticcus should be excluded because he was a brother of a king, and perhaps a governor or deputy, but that's not a "ruler" or "monarch".
