The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 20:56, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete, redundant category level, the subcategory suffices. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:32, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Merge to parent, rather than delete. The one article will make a good main article for the subcategory. Peterkingiron (talk) 19:04, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • The article and the subcategory are already in the parent or elsewhere in that tree. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:21, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Soviet Azerbaijani people. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 20:53, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Azerbaijan was part of the Soviet Union Rathfelder (talk) 10:48, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:42, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep -- USSR was a federal state, where individuals had internal passports setting out their (ethnic) nationality. It was thus possible to have Tartar or Buryat nationality, though their home states were only federal members of RFSSR. Azerbaijan was more than that, one of a dozen or so states united in USSR, which became independent republics when USSR was dissolved. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:24, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I dont think that means we can categorise these people as Soviet people of Azerbaijani descent, any more than you can characterise British people as being of Scottish descent. All the Azerbaijani people were also Soviet people at that time. We have Category:Soviet Azerbaijani people. It isnt an issue about descent. Rathfelder (talk) 18:19, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: no consensus. (Weak keep.) (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 20:47, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Lithuania was part of the Soviet Union Rathfelder (talk) 10:46, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Azerbaijan was more than that, one of a dozen or so states united in USSR, which became independent republics when USSR was dissolved. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:25, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Surely they were Lithuanian people, not people of Lithuanian descent?Rathfelder (talk) 18:23, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Obviously strong keep. The category is purposely used for people born in Soviet Union before the Lithuanian annexation when they were 2 different countries. Could also be used for people born between Act of the Re-Establishment of the State of Lithuania and Soviet Union's cessation to exist.Respublik (talk) 11:35, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • That still does not address the descent part of it. Being in an X people by Y descent category implies one's parents or grandparents immigrated to X from Y, and that is not the case here at all. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:58, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep -- Both articles currently categorised relate to people where the normal descent criteria apply: in both cases the father was a Lithuanian expatriate. This makes this different from the other cases on which I voted before. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:22, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
