- The result of the discussion was: Selective upmerge as set out below. Timrollpickering 22:15, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Delete Essentially a descent category going back to the biblical Aaron. Non defining for nearly all the articles categorized; mostly a bunch of people with last names of Cohen, Kahane, Caan, Coen, and similar; many of the articles having little to no discussion of the topic much less in the lead, where we expect to see things that are defining at least mentioned; some of the articles are also of the most perplexing inclusion: some aren't Jews, so even if they were descended from Aaron - outside the Jewish faith that's irrelevant - and some like Forsman only discovered his biological father wasn't who he thought it was in his thirties or forties, so it seems hardly defining. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:12, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Delete -- This is far too like having a category for everyone with the surname Smith, which we do not allow. I would not object if this were mainly housing a series of list articles for variants of the surname. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:48, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
- If deleted, selective upmerge of Category:Kohanim writers of Rabbinic literature, Category:Kohenitic surnames, Kahen, Kohen, The mitzvah of sanctifying the Kohen, Nadab and Abihu and Y-chromosomal Aaron to parent Category:Levites. However, that category bears the same problems as the nominated one. Perhaps it could be nominated for renaming to "Ancient Levites". – Fayenatic London 14:14, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support selective upmerge per Fayenatic london. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:52, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Dual merge to Category:Buildings and structures in Kissimmee, Florida. Small category unlikely to grow. TM 16:27, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Update: This can be deleted because both articles in the nominated category are already in the county-based category.--TM 11:10, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: Delete. Timrollpickering 10:34, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Not needed, it is not defining and all eligible entires are in Category:Brazilian footballers, not a standard category (I've certainly never seen one before) for footballers. GiantSnowman 12:13, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related deletions. GiantSnowman 12:13, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Comment other "similar" cat did existed , such as Jewish footballers. In some case, "Jewish footballer" was well cited and non-routine coverage.
- Keep aside on discussing Jewish footballers, i would suggest to Delete Footballers of Brazilian descent, over-categorization as a sub cat of People of Brazilian descent. Also, Brazilian is not a ethnic group but more a "defined" culture group by using political boundary (POB). Matthew_hk tc 12:34, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Delete I admit a strong dislike of "descent" categories as non-defining generally and subjective (how much - a one drop rule? - or how far in the past may descent be to be categorized); this further subcategorization is just more weight further out on the limb well past the breaking point. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:01, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Comment this might have merit, but only if it were a container for Expatriate Brazilian footballers by country categories, but I doubtr there would be enough to populate it. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:52, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
- Delete, the articles that I checked mostly concerned Brazilian footballers who are in Category:Brazilian footballers and don't belong in a Brazilian descent category, incidentally I also encountered a footballer of Brazilian descent who was in Category:American people of Brazilian descent and that should be sufficient as well. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:36, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- Delete - per above, especially per carlossuarez46's !vote, category is nondeffining and rather vague. Category:Footballers of Iranian descent and Category:Footballers of Armenian descent should perhaps also be nominated if this cfd is closed as a delete. Inter&anthro (talk) 04:57, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Inter&anthro: I actually came across the Iranian one last night, not seen the Armenian one before though. I will nominate both when this discussion is closed, unless you want to ... GiantSnowman 07:54, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
- It's okay, I have already nominated the said categories for deletion here. Inter&anthro (talk) 12:00, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Rename as proposed. Any shortening can be handled in a separate, broader nomination. Timrollpickering 10:36, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Members of the Parliament of Ireland (pre-1801) for County Laois constituencies to Category:Members of the Parliament of Ireland (pre-1801) for Queen's County constituencies, also
- Category:Members of the Parliament of Ireland (pre-1801) for County Offaly constituencies to Category:Members of the Parliament of Ireland (pre-1801) for King's County constituencies
- Category:Members of the Parliament of the United Kingdom for County Laois constituencies (1801–1922) to Category:Members of the Parliament of the United Kingdom for Queen's County constituencies (1801–1922)
- Category:Members of the Parliament of the United Kingdom for County Offaly constituencies (1801–1922) to Category:Members of the Parliament of the United Kingdom for King's County constituencies (1801–1922)
- Category:By-elections to the Parliament of the United Kingdom in County Laois constituencies to Category:By-elections to the Parliament of the United Kingdom in Queen's County constituencies
- Category:By-elections to the Parliament of the United Kingdom in County Offaly constituencies to Category:By-elections to the Parliament of the United Kingdom in King's County constituencies
- Nominator's rationale: Throughout the existence of the Parliament of Ireland and during the counties' representation in the Parliament of the United Kingdom, Laois and Offaly were known as Queen's County and King's County. They were only renamed after establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922. The current category titles are anachronistic. Opera hat (talk) 11:38, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support all Technically, the Oireachtas has never passed an Act to rename the counties so they are still King and Queens County. Laurel Lodged (talk) 10:32, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support all in principle, but leave a cat-redirect. However, these are very long category names. Could we abbreviate to MP and UK where feasible? This is an unusual case where we encourage abbreviations in category names, partly because long-serving MPs have a lot of categories. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:56, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
- I certainly wouldn't object to shorter names, but the equivalent categories for the other Irish counties would need to be moved as well. I was only trying to get agreement on the King's/Queen's issue with this nomination. Opera hat (talk) 10:14, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Can these just be moved now, please? In over a month nobody has objected to the argument that the counties should be called by their original names. Then we can have a separate, broader discussion about more concise titles for these and the other similar categories. Opera hat (talk) 14:13, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. The sub-cat Category:Rayne Red Sox players survives for now as it has not been tagged. – Fayenatic London 08:18, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Category is for a defunct team that existed for just one year and whose article page is a redirect. ...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 10:00, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- Keep It has enough topics to keep. This category brings order to the topic and should be kept. If you want Wikipedia to become less organized and harder to use, then delete it. spatms Talk:spatms 17:43, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

- Delete. How can it have "enough topics to keep"? The category contains a redirect and a subcategory with one article in it. --Srleffler (talk) 05:30, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Delete Category:Rayne Red Sox players should be merged with Category:Rayne Rice Birds players - two categories about the same team, that just happened to change its name. No need for this category when Category:Rayne Rice Birds exists. GiantSnowman 12:23, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: In accordance with standard naming conventions for American college sports and in order to bring this category in line with its main article and subcategories, it should be renamed as proposed. Jweiss11 (talk) 01:06, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
