NEW NOMINATIONS[edit]

Category:People from Anderson, Alabama[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:53, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Merge. Anderson, Alabama has a population of 282. The category is unlikely to be significantly populated so upmerge per WP:SMALLCAT. Tassedethe (talk) 17:29, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Upmerge per nom. Spyder_Monkey (Talk) 01:11, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category:People from Anantapur[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:52, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Merge. This category is for "all the people who hail from Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh state". Anantapur itself is a disambiguation page. Tassedethe (talk) 17:23, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Tat people from Amarlu[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge/delete as nominated. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:51, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale:. Category:People from Rudbar only contains Category:People from Amarlu which only contains Category:Tat people from Amarlu which only contains Ziaeddin Tavakkoli. Proposing merging this article to Category:People from Rudbar and deleting the other categories. Tassedethe (talk) 17:02, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Places of Mithila[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: split then delete, though I have made the targets Category:Populated places in Mithila, India and Category:Populated places in Mithila, Nepal to match the articles Mithila, India and Mithila, Nepal and the standard use of "populated places in XXXX". (Added to the splitifying list at WP:CFDWM.) Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:49, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Add "Populated places" to name to fit categorization scheme. Split because Mithila is a disambiguation page - or just rename this to be India-specific and remove the non-India articles from the category. DexDor (talk) 05:17, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Places associated with apartheid[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:48, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Being "associated with" something is not a WP:DEFINING characteristic and fails WP:OC#ARBITRARY. This is currently the only category named "Places associated with...". The only "Places connected with..." category is currently also at CFD. DexDor (talk) 04:50, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete and upmerge The concept of Bantustans was pretty important to South African apartheid, so they should be categorized under that but you are correct that "X associated with Y" is pretty weasel-y wording. —Justin (koavf)TCM 04:52, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • delete selectively upmerge. I think some of these articles/cats should go in a general apartheid topic category. I'll leave it to others to determine which ones. Places associated with is not defining though per nom. --Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 05:14, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • delete - Yeah, I think it's not going to work to categorize prisons, sites of massacres, protests, and arguably segregated places like bantustans and white-majority cities. I do think that the topic might warrant a separate list of places notable in the Apartheid era or something like that. I note that "Places" has a subcategory in the template and that's also a good navigational tool, probably better than a category; a "more places" could link to a list/article about the various sites. --Lquilter (talk) 14:08, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete and selectively upmerge as above. Neutralitytalk 01:25, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete no clear inclusion criteria, in theory anywhere in South Africa that existed during apartheid could qualify.John Pack Lambert (talk) 01:55, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete not defining. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 07:09, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete -- far too vague. Every place in South Africa would qualify. It may be that a more specific category (or several) can be created. Peterkingiron (talk) 13:04, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Recipients of the Hector Memorial Medal[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:47, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Delete. Though I understand this is an important award, all these people are already listed at Hector Memorial Medal, and the creation of a navbox template would be a far better method of linking these people than a category. Grutness...wha? 03:02, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom; the list in the article is a much better way of listing these people. I note that the category is misleadingly incomplete since many of the more recent winners are red-links, and there's no way to order the category members chronologically. --Lquilter (talk) 16:45, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: The list is also incomplete. This whole area is a bit of a mess, which is partly my fault, since I've done some of the work and not not all of it. Could we mark the cat for conversion to a Template:Navbox rather than actually deleting it right now? Stuartyeates (talk) 20:41, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm cool with listifying or templatifying (?). Is there a template for that? --Lquilter (talk) 00:32, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fine with that too (I actually suggested something similar in my nom), though that can be done from the key article even if the category is deleted first. Grutness...wha? 01:08, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It needs to be done from the existing list, since many people don't have articles yet. Stuartyeates (talk) 01:42, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
