We have decade wise lists for Padma Shri awards like List of Padma Shri award recipients (1954–59), List of Padma Shri award recipients (1960–69), List of Padma Shri award recipients (1970–79) etc. Plus, we also have a category Category:Recipients of the Padma Shri in sports to list the recipients. I CSD-ed it but got declined. - Vivvt (Talk) 13:52, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

- Delete: We also have them included in Category:Recipients of the Padma Shri in sports apart from all the pages where they are listed. This is an unnecessary fork. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 17:39, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

CommentKeep: Both category and lists can co-exist. Presence of a similar category is not a reason for deletion. We have numerous cases where similar list exists for a category. Pratyush (talk) 18:51, 5 October 2016 (UTC)- @PratyushSinha101: Can you provide some examples?
- @Vivvt: this category and List of people from Delhi, Category of BHU people and List of Banaras Hindu University people, Category of Hindi language writers and it's list. Hundreds of other examples present. Pratyush (talk) 06:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
- @PratyushSinha101: This is not a relevant example here. Get me a list which has entries already present in another list(s) along with its category. - Vivvt (Talk) 10:10, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Vivvt: I do think that was a relevant example. Still here is another, many people of List of Banaras Hindu University people and List of people from Uttar Pradesh are similar. For more examples go through this category and it's subcategories. Many people appear multiple times. Pratyush (talk) 10:33, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
- @PratyushSinha101: Not sure if you have understood the rational behind this AfD. This is a list of people who have won a particular award and their entry is already present in the list of award recipient. So it duplicates the content. With your logic, we can create numerous lists like "List of people from Delhi who have won the Padma Shri", "List of Banaras Hindu University people awarded with Padma Shri". - Vivvt (Talk) 13:00, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

- @Jessie1979: Can you elaborate more about this particular article and its significance compared to the existing padma lists? - Vivvt (Talk) 13:50, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
@Vivvt: We need separate list, to provide clarity to wikipedia readers 1. Readers should understand who got Padmasri in sports? 2. What are the major sports field got Padmasri? 3. Indian Government is giving importance to the those specialized sports or few people in those sports based on their political importance/recognition? I hope it is clear. - 1. Readers will understand who got Padmashri by reading the list of who got Padmashri and by going through the category of who got Padmashri in Sports. That's clarity enough! If they don't get it from these two things then they is high possibility they wont get it through this list also. 2. Major field? The list that you are supporting to keep doesn't do that anyway. 3. Wikipedia is not to be used for your propaganda and to correct the wrongs of the world. Write a blog, post facebook message, take out candles, block the roads, burn state properties, hijack airplanes, do massacres and whatnot to do that. Not here! §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 04:18, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
Hi, I am not against to the government, I gave clarification and as per my understanding wikipedia should give clear information to the readers at a single page. No one has the time to dig wikipedia like you and me for simple information. Jessie1979 (talk) 08:17, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

- Keep per WP:LISTPURP and WP:CLN as complement to Category:Recipients of the Padma Shri in sports. As that guideline makes clear, simply pointing to the existence of a category on the same topic as a list is not an argument for deletion. And the annotated fields in this list as well as its sortability even gives it clear added value above the category, so even notwithstanding CLN (specifically WP:NOTDUP) the argument that the list is merely "duplicative" is incorrect. postdlf (talk) 12:59, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
- Delete all - too much useless info; we are not a web host for sports fans. The "cat" works fine. Bearian (talk) 14:04, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
- Delete This is essentially duplicating the information in List of Padma Shri award recipients (2010–19). What's more, that article already has a list which can be sorted by the field (in this case, "sports"). I do not see why we need to create sub-lists for these. I also noticed that we do not sub-categorise other similar lists - for example, List of Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients. Accordingly, I would suggest a delete. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 05:51, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
- Delete As said by Lemongirl942 this is essentially creating an article out of a column in a sortable table present on articles of Padma Shri recipients(eg:as in List of Padma Shri award recipients (2010–19)).A "cat " fork works out fine.Aru@baska❯❯❯ Vanguard 16:55, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
- Comment: People voting delete are requested to take a look at WP:CLN and two lists somewhat similar to the ones being discussed List of Victoria Cross recipients of the Indian Army and List of Victoria Cross recipients (A–F), both of which are featured lists.
