Hi. I'm sorry to bother you, but as a LoCE member, I just wondered if you would be willing to have a look through the Sheerness‎ article. It is currently a Featured Article Candidate and needs a copy-edit for grammar by someone who hasn't yet seen it. Any other ways to improve the article would also be welcome. Thank you very much, if you can. Epbr123 17:37, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

DC Meetup notice

Greetings. There is going to be a Washington DC Wikipedia meetup on next Saturday, July 21st at 5pm in DC. Since you are listed in Category:Wikipedians_in_Virginia, I thought I'd invite you to come. I'm sorry about the short notice for the meeting. Hopefully we'll do somewhat better in that regard next time. If you can't come but want to make sure that you are informed of future meetings be sure to list yourself under "but let me know about future events", and if you don't want to get any future direct notices \(like this one\), you can list yourself under "I'm not interested in attending any others either" on the DC meetup page.--Gmaxwell 22:09, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Mortal Coil discussion

I think I've done all I can and said all I can say here. Chances are they're just going to spout more wiki bs and chock out more abbreviated policy links that were pulled outta their arse rather than accept that they're wrong, so I'm done. It's all up to you now. Do us proud. ;)

PS: Some of those people take their time on this site waaaaay too seriously. I seriously hope we don't get that way on Memory Alpha. The day we do is the day I slap a "retired" tag on my user page.

Live long and prosper, may the force be with you, nanu-nanu, Klaatu barada nikto, never give up, never surrender, and all that. :) --From Andoria with Love 15:42, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for all your help; but it wasn't enough. I couldn't watch it, couldn't edit, and even Jimbo disagreed with me. *long sigh* How depressing, at least your last post cheered me up. W:WTF indeed. :) Zidel333 00:57, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Success!!!

Our campaign was a success! Mortal Coil (Voyager episode) still lives! We are victorious! HUZZAH! HUZZAH! HUZZAH! --From Andoria with Love 16:39, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome

Glad to be of service. There's a certain contingent of Wikipedians who make it their mission to get rid of what they see as "fancruft". I happen to believe that a lot of the stuff they dismiss as useless can be brought up to an encyclopedic standard. It takes a fair bit of work, and a lot of fans aren't interested in finding the sources required to show notability, but I was glad to show it can be done. Maybe some folks will see this and start bringing other TV episode pages up to snuff, so they won't be deleted either.

As for Jimbo, I'm hoping he's just skimming his talk page and hasn't noticed the comment. Maybe if we keep prodding gently he'll respond eventually. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 04:03, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

good faith & patience via Aristotle regarding Virgil

A mature & authoritative scholar disturbed at the mediocrity & banality of postings on WP in his special field, finds it hard to fathom the peculiar culture of WP, yet is not quite willing to give up & leave WP to wallow, since the authoritative scholar also is a devoted & successful teacher whose pedagogy embodies belief in dialogue & in attentive consideration to where the other is coming from &/or is. I try to keep in mind a dictum of Aristotle's, in what work I don't recall, to the effect that in explaining 'the good & beautiful', i.e., 'the intelligible' to someone, discourse must start with what is intelligible to that person now. This philosophy entails a certain humility & giving up the first spark struck by wit, which never is a bad thing, & in recompense promises a better understanding & real communication all around. So there!!

PS: a person of a rather young age & instinct with intellectual interests & ambitions may not find in a medium like WP the best way of developing those interests & making them weigh in the world. Blogging is too desultory & disconnected from the mechanisms of cultural & economic power, to say nothing of personal discipline & focus, to result in poetic composition, lyrical or epic, or in dissertations & professorships I fear.Sicelidas 14:51, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

What you just said, I could say in about 3 sentences. Your superfluous language is certainly unique to the "culture" of Wikipedia; while not bad per se, it does not allow for easy understanding, nor helpful explanations. If you want to be a successful contributer to Wikipedia, you must speak clearly, consisely, and, most importantly, simply. And do not insult me with your Post scriptum. Wikipedia is my hobby, I choose to be here as do you. What you fail to recognize is that your work can be detrimetnal if it does not follow the guidelines, policies, and basic form that Wikipedia uses and enforces. If you continue in this manner, I will report you to the respective projects, pages, and authorities. Zidel333 15:21, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Your "What you just said, I could say in about 3 sentences" puzzles, since what I said I myself said in just three sentences plus the exclamatory "So there!!"

Your reference to "superfluous language" also puzzles, since arguably I have chosen language to express nuanced meaning as concisely as appropriate to the case.

WP is definitely not a hobby for me or an addiction, but occasionally a help & now threatening to become an unwanted nuisance. From time to time I consult it in areas unfamiliar to me & find it useful. Thus I am distressed to find it so lacking in my own special field. Please do report me to what you denominate "the respective projects, pages, and authorities" since I would be willing to work with them on bringing up to speed my area of expertise but have not figured out how to do that & do not have infinite patience or time. Detrimental has been the WP experience for me.Sicelidas 03:09, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

You don't get it do you? I can't continue this conversation, I'm going to seek third party help. Zidel333 03:35, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

New Article Improvment page for WP:VIRGINIA

Seeing as our old Collaborations page at WP:VIRGINIA had no activity in the past year it was decided to replace it with a new Article Improvement/Request Help page that would allow members to list articles in need of attention. Its also a place to request help for an article taht you are working on to see if any other members would like to volunteer and help out. Thanks. T Rex | talk 01:17, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Wandlore (Harry Potter), which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. I have nominated the article for deletion instead; the debate may be found at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wandlore (Harry Potter), which overrides the need for a {{prod}} tag. I have explained my reasons for doing this in my nomination. Thanks!

Smackbot issue

Hi, I wasn't sure to stop the bot, so I'm just leaving a message to give you a headsup. Smackbot just posted a template on the Flowering tea article. Said template has a minor factual issue -- it states that it has been tagged since May 2007, when in fact the templates just when up today (making it August 2007). While this seems minor, it could have effects in AfDs where length of templates are sometimes used for reasons to Delete. Can you check this out to see if Flowering tea was the only article targeted, or is more widespread? Much thanks! Zidel333 13:41, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. That tag was added by User:TerriersFan on 4 May and dated by SB that day. Additional tags were added by you on the 14th ang dated by SB today. See history. Regards, Rich Farmbrough, 13:54 15 August 2007 (GMT).

Marathon (film)

Hi, when you move pages, use the move tab at the top. If you just cut and paste the contents, it makes the mess of the page history that someone else will have to spend a lot more time fixing. Plus it's faster just to hit 'move'. Furthermore, if you change a title that's been around for a while, please check the 'what links here' link at the toolbox, and change the links to that article to point to the correct target. Again, not doing it will just lead to confusion, and create more work for someone else later on. Thanks. - Bobet 16:26, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
