copyedit request[edit]

Hey, Blnguyen, would you happen to have time to do a good copyedit of 2nd Canadian Infantry Division? It's in need of one before I go for ACR this month. I appreciate any assistance. Regards, Cam (Chat) 05:17, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Time permitting, yes. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:07, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Cam, why are you wikilinking dates and months like March 3? Blnguyen (bananabucket) 07:11, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As in the format of the WL, or the fact that they're wikilinked? Cam (Chat) 07:15, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the fact that they are wikilinked. I thought that the MOS said only to wikilink when full d-m-y is used, but nowadays I believe it is no longer encouraged and Tony1 (talk · contribs) has been encouraging people to not do it anymore because it blues out the more important stuff. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 07:23, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Ok. I'll fix that tomorrow (it's 1:20AM where I am, I'm going to bed). Cam (Chat) 07:24, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jappalang. Thanks for the very detailed review, which prompted me to add some more background information and precedents. Hopefully it makes the article more engaging. Thanks, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:20, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Blnguyen. I think you are making the article much better than at the start of the nomination. There are a bit of grammatical mistakes and I tried to correct them. I think another pair of fresh eyes dedicated to copyediting can help improve the article further (even if only slightly) in presentation. You might wish to contact EyeSerene or AnnaFrance, both of whom I had excellent experiences with. I will still be holding off a final judgment, but rest assured that it is favorable at this point. The article seems to be as comprehensive as the current sources allow it to be, but I just wish to be assured that all available resources have been totally exhausted (who knows, a Vietnamese contributor might later bring native scholarly material, with translation, pertaining to the subject). I will conclusively throw in a final call by next Tuesday at the latest if no one brings up reliable sources that show the article is lacking. Jappalang (talk) 05:47, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes, The Last Emperors of Vietnam mentions that eight bombs exploded in the Saigon-Cholon area. However, the article says that none of the bombs exploded. Is this a conflict between sources? Jappalang (talk) 05:52, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I'm led to believe that Chapuis made a typo; Marr says none exploded, and the Vietnamese paper used on the vi.wiki says that there were eight bombs and none of them exploded. Chapuis has a few other places where the copyeditor forgot to check because it says that Huynh Phu So was born in 1919 (everyone agrees) and then says that he started his movement in 1919 (should be 1939). Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:59, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again for your help and taking the time to draw that map. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 03:13, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Voting on Proposed decision[edit]

This (reasonably straight-forward) case has been open for too long, and has had no responses for nearly a week now when all it needs is a couple more votes before it's ready to close. Votes are required from at least one more arbitrator - either yourself, FayssalF, FT2, Matthew Brown (Morven) or Thebainer.

Undoubtedly, your vote will be expected for the omnibus case too. Thanks - Ncmvocalist (talk) 13:32, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

buddhism help[edit]

Hi Blnguyen, I noticed that you have created many articles on Buddhist leaders and I was hoping you had the time to perhaps look at Cyril de Zoysa, an article I created on this defender of the Dhamma.Pectoretalk 18:01, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any speecific problem with this one, or just a general spruce up? Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:07, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just need a little help with formatting and copyediting and such. Perhaps if you could find more information on the man that would be much appreciated as well, as it is somewhat sparse on the web.Pectoretalk 19:14, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Hi! How are you doing? I am extremely sorry for not replying. Since, I found no message from you on my talk page I thought that you haven't responded. A few hours, back, however, I visited your talkpage and found your response.

Well, I beg to differ on your opinion. I personally feel that the particular user's obscenities on my talkpage violate the following clause of the Indian Penal Code and Pakistan Penal Code (which, of course, derives most of its clauses, from the Indian Penal Code)

504. Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace Whoever intentionally insults, and thereby gives provocation to any person, intending or knowing it to be likely that such provocation will cause him to break the public peace, or to commit any other. offence, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

Anyway, I leave the decision up to you. While I feel that the edits of this particular user demand its deletion from edit history , I agree that you have every right to make the decision depending on your own discretion. Anyway, bye.. and take care :-) -RavichandarMy coffee shop 02:16, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I've deleted it. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 07:58, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you can shed some light on this, because I don't know enough about the subject to clean this up. Over the past few days, on the Nguyen Ba Can article, a user first changed the birth date, then added a whole long schpiel, then changed the birthdate again. After reverting it a third time (the information was completely unsourced and poorly formated to boot), I inserted only that information which could be verified and sourced it. Now, the anon has registered and reinserted all the information; however, this time they have added an additional, offline source. So I want to contact the user to straighten it out, but I'm a bit ignorant on the topic, and I don't want to go in there saying "World Statesmen sez 1913!!!111one" without knowing what I'm talking about (after all, World Statesmen is hardly the epitome of cold, hard fact). I was wondering if you had a minute or two to look it over and seeing if the information more or less checks out, since you have an interest/knowledge base about the topic in general; I can't seem to verify it on the Internet. If it's legit, I'll just clean it up. If it's not, I'll send the user a message and revert.

Sorry if this makes no sense or I'm missing some process step; it's been a long week. Cheers, CP 02:21, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed, YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 07:58, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for looking it over! Cheers, CP 03:20, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Double blocking[edit]

I wonder how you ended up having to block User:Manoj nav and User:Notashamed. I am just curious as I was involved in editing an article they were editing as well. DockuHi 05:42, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Manoj double-debated with an IP address at [[1]] giving the impression that two people disagreed with Fundamental metric tensor. Notashamed used Frompatna to votestack. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 07:48, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just for the record, I'd even warned Notashamed/Frompatna here. Sarvagnya 17:09, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly oppose your block as an immature act, without trying to find out the actual truth [2] and giving me a personal warning or atleast a message on my talk page while blocking. In absence of an apology or explanation, I will conclude that it was a biased act by you to lobby against the article- talk page. I am wondering that it took you such a long time to go thorough this, and then block me on that ground almost after a month.

I also feel that Notashamed [3] and Frompatna [4] are editors (using a common LAN IP) who were genuinely trying to contribute for the articles -

No personal messages or warning has been given by the administrator before blocking them inspite of their steady and genuine contributions. I came to know of their block only at [5].

Keeping in mind the poor decision that you took in mine case, I would request you to kindly look into the case of Notashamed and Frompatna, and try to find out the actual truth instead of justifying that they are same editors because they share a common IP. They seem to be new editors, who are not well aware of the technical aspects of wikipedia and so are not able to put forward any unblock request. licensing of pictures[edit]

Out of laziness, I've been licensing my uploads with {{PD-Self}}.
However, I notice you use {{GFDL-self}}. Why? What's the significance of the difference?
Thanks in advance. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 14:08, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(P.S. Reply here if you prefer - I like seeing both sides in the one place.)

I think you'll find that PD means that it is completely "freeware" and you can do whatever you want with it. From my undertanding with GFDL, you are supposed to accredit later derivative works when you are basing work on other people's stuff. That's why you can't do a cut and paste move - it violated GFDL because the "honor roll" on contributors isn't preserved and the original evoloutionary history is lost. I think you should upload your (free) stuff to commons by the way, so that other wikiprojets can use the image without having to upload a local copy, YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 07:58, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The user was blocked by you as sockpuppet of User:Gilbertine goldmark and has now asked for an unblock at User talk:Triplejumper. But there are no block notices nor is it clear to me if there is a sockpuppet case, an ANI thread or whatever. Okay I didn't know that you are a check user and have meanwhile found the CC thread and will drop a note there. A block notice helps other users to understand, though.--Tikiwont (talk) 15:33, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edits[edit]

Hi, I saw your reversions of Seminoletree's edits to Benazir Bhutto and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. I hope you can revert his similar edits to Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Nusrat Bhutto where he removed the many highly reliable references calling them "biased, controversial and unreliable." I think that User:WWGB, who follows a similar disruptive editing pattern, is the same user. I don't edit often, so I really hope you could look into that. Regards, 77.42.190.237 (talk) 18:16, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should start an account and edit. No WWGB, is not where NisarKand is (Pakistan) - NK however claims to be in Kandahar with the Taliban waiting to kill US soldiers and the like - just another armchair muscleman. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 08:07, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
