Collaboration on Punk & New Wave Music pages[edit]
It was with great interest that I noted that you were living in London in the punk (and immediate) post-punk era. When you have time, could you cast an eye of the pages I've been working on, and consider collaboration on the other pages listed? Many thanks.

- Well I added a couple of little things. As I already said - I do think 1) you should just avoid the term 'seminal' altogether - it's discredited. Just find another way of saying it - 'early' would probably suffice, and 'influential' with a cite is great. 2) the trakmarx cites need to be fixed to be more specific. You should work on using the citation templates.
Streets (punk album)[edit]
Since you had some good comments and edits in related articles, perhaps you can take a look at the Streets (punk album) article, since at the moment it just reads like an advertisement, and has some other issues that need to be fixed. I attempted to correct the problems, but kept getting instantly reverted by the editor who created the article. Spylab 15:40, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah looks good. I'd totally forgotten that Streets was the first Beggars record. Yozzer's heart is definitely in the right place, and one can sense his enthusiasm. One can tell that the whole tight-ass aspect of WP goes against the grain there, you have to laugh - I mean well, punk rock! He's certainly breaking ground with his article work. - Thanks for playing the peacemaker! The corrections to Streets mentioned above were incredibly minor and, after your advice on The Drones (I think) discussion page, were (largely) outlined by me on the Streets discussion page. In retrospect, I really can't see what all the fuss was about. Incidently, I've added a new overview section (with plenty of proper cites!) which clearly demonstrates the album's 'seminal' status. However, I'm not going to the stake over a word. Readers will interpret the album's significance for themselves. Finally, it's not that the WP tight-ass thing goes against the grain so much as the conduct of the people who see it as their role to enforce it (and I don't mean the elected people). They tend to be a real pain - arrogant, patronising, reluctant to discuss properly, behaving 'like a bull in a china shop', requiring more work / research from others but rarely contributing or colaborating themselves, etc. All the best. First of all, I want to thank you for the correction about Siouxsie Sioux on the Pennie Smith article. I was adding some references to that article and I wrote Siouxie Sioux instead of Siouxsie Sioux, but I tried the link and it seemed to be right, so thank you again.
I saw you have inserted the {{Refimprove}} template at the top of The Clash article on 16 September, 2007. Do you think is possible to return to the more specific {{Fact}} template now that there are 21 new references on 28?
The Clash article failed the good article nomination on 13 October, 2006 (one year ago). Is now the time to renominate it? What you think about that? (Link: Wikipedia:Good_article_nominations)

- Yeah I took it down. You've done some good work there. You must have spent over 100 hours on it. I'd let it settle a bit. There's no rush. I'd like to see something about Magnificent Seven being a crossover R&B hit, particularly in NYC; the band's influence on early hiphop. For The Magnificent Seven, check out its own article (it was inspired by Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, when the band went in NYC; the link in the reference, www.monthlyreview.org/0603ambrosio.htm, is really interesting. It's a part of a book written by Antonino D’Ambrosio and published in the USA).
About Chuck D see the next section. It is the last part of an article/interview by Elton John, Bono and Chuck D. It's also available on the web at: findarticles.com/.../pg_3, www.strummernews.com/interviewmag.html and www.epitaph.com/news/print/1019.
Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject The Clash/List of related articles when you have a chance. It's a page where I'm collecting links, info, and more related to The Clash. Now is incomplete, but it should be used to watch the progress status of the articles and of the whole project. (for example, I used it to cite sources)

STRANGE BEDFELLOWS HOW THE CLASH INSPIRED PUBLIC ENEMY BY CHUCK D[edit]
The first time I heard the Clash was in 1981. I was in College at Adelphi University on Long Island, and one night I went down to this show in Manhattan-one of Kurtis Blow’s hip-hop package shows. The crowd was rough. People from different camps were there-the hip-hop people and the punk-rock people. They even started throwing tomatoes at Kurtis, so that’s the type of wild kids who were there. But the Clash completely broke it that night. It was an awakening for a New York cat like myself.
As I delved more into the music scene, I started learning about how the kids across the water in England were rebelling against the queen and the aristocracy. Around the same time, Bill Stepheny, a friend of mine from Adelphi and one of the original members of Public Enemy, started playing the Clash’s records on his hip-hop radio show, which opened up a lot of people’s minds. He would reach into the Clash’s catalogue, as well as the sex pistols’, and make those kinds of songs work in the context of a hip-hop show. He was instrumental in exposing a lot of hip-hop cats to what the Clash were doing. I had great respect for Joe Strummer. How he used his music-incorporating a lot of black music like hip-hop and reggae-was very different from the guys who invented rock ‘n’ roll: He Always paid homage to those who came before him. I admired him for his humility as an artist and for the fact that he dug musical cats, no matter what type of music they played. He was constantly pushing the boundaries of the Clash’s sound and of what music could do on a greater level. And Joe was still rebellious: He was speaking about things he saw in his life-the things right in front of his face that none wanted to talk about-and taking his message around the world.
Public Enemy is an American group, but we address the same issues we deal with-political, social, musical-on an international level. We take our conversation worldwide. I learned the importance of that from Joe Strummer. Right now there’s a hunger out there for a musician like that. As a musician, it’s not an easy way to go, but there are people who are doing it in hip-hop right now-politically outspoken groups like Dead Prez and the Coup, who are totally fearless and noncapitulating in their work. That’s Joe Strummer’s legacy-the idea that you need to stand by your word every step of the way.
- Yes that's from the intro to the book 'The Politics Of Joe Strummer' right? It was at a reading of that I taped him. Almost word for word the same thing. With that M7 article explaining everything, how about changing the sentence about radio play to say something along the lines: While The Magnificent Seven was a crossover hit on urban radio, the album itself failed to gain wider airplay etc etc.. I'm no judge of FA, so don't take my word for it. I put up that refimprove to replace an earlier, more severe warning, I think.

- I have added a source for the "Typical Girl" (see Train in Vain#_note-2). It is a part of an online article by Marcus Gray, the author of The Clash: Return of the Last Gang in Town, about the ongoing pop influence of 'Stand By Me'.

I noticed you've been reverting Dangolaenican apparently he is trying to remove what he deems to be "advertisements", really weasel words, however he keeps removing the entire sections. He does have a point, some of the way the article is phrased does use weasel words. He only has about 4 edits, so I am assuming good faith. Fair Use[edit]
Hi Wwwhatsup.
Thanks for the kind comment on my user page about the album cover scans I had provided. The problem is that I supplied so many (and here) and it would take me ages just to go back and amend the descriptions and I no longer have the time or enthusiasm. When I uploaded most of them the tags and fair use rationale I provided were deemed adequate (most 'fair use' images I came across then had no tags or rationale at all) and it's only now that the 'Copyright Police' have decided that that no longer applies and instead of altering the image page of a fairly-evident use of an album cover themselves, they then expect me to go back and alter them all myself. Thanks for doing the Adverts album cover BTW. I agree about the Captain Pugwash theme too - luckily I have it as a ring tone on my mobile phone! - LOL! I went back pretty far, pretty much as far as the single purpose removal of references to Riot Grrrl, Tobi Vail, and Bikini Girl went. Before that, the edits were a bit less disruptive, I reverted a few, but not all, as they tended to be a little more out of my realm of knowledge, so I figured they could be taken care of by other editors who might be watching those pages. The user hasn't edited in a few days, so I presume the disruption is over, though I've got their talk page on my watchlist in case. I'll let ya know if anything comes up though. Cheers! Fair use rationales[edit]
Please be more careful if you decide to write fair use rationales like these. The two rationales you added were invalid due to the way the images were being used in the articles you added rationales to. The images were being used purely for decorative uses which violates WP:NFCC, points #3a and #8. I have removed those rationales as well as the images uses which were in violation. - Yes. I knew I was on dodgy ground there under current regs. The image, which is fair-use in the article that it relates to, was included in the other article infoboxes in miniature form solely as a visual representation of the subject of the article, so the use was solely to illustrate the subject of the article as specified in the fur. I didn't put them in those boxes myself but I figured that if they were removed, then the fair-use rationales would become redundant anyway, so I might as well put the fur's in while I was updating the image. Hi and thank you for welcoming me (please excuse my poor english...). I'm essentially a contributor to the french Wikipedia. I've juste met an unknown problem. In the WAX tailor talk page I'd like to add this paragraph:
" Hi everyone, I'm rather a contributor to the french Wikipedia. I come and see you cause I have a question. We don't have an article for Wax Tailor in french and I unfortunately don't know his work. An IP came and added WAX Tailor into the abstract hip hip list of artists. Do you think it's correct or no? many thanks. " And When I try to save I get a spam filter notice page telling me that it detected a spam link to the myspace blogs domains... But ther's no link at all in it!! What's the matter? - You can view the discussion at Template talk:Infobox Musical artist#Logos. It appears we've agreed that, by and large, most of the "logos" that are currently in the infoboxes of musician articles aren't appropriate or at least aren't in the right place. We're trying to add some language into the template to the effect that the artist's name should be written in plain text. At the very least the consensus is at a point where I felt emboldened enough to remove "logos" that were either blatantly in violation of fair use or weren't really logos at all. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box.
