Dear Will de Burgh. Very glad to meet you. This seems to be the first time we both contribute to the same Irish aristocratic biography, which shows how big that pool is as we both seem to have a special interest in that kind of articles.

You have the advantage over me to be Irish, which probably gives you a deeper understanding of the country's history and some knowledge of the Irish language. I am a recent immigrant from South Africa living in northern Ireland.

Thank you very much for your additions, which are very much appreciated. I am on an endless learning curve trying to find out how these biographies should really best be written and would be quite keen to discuss such issues with you. Thanks a lot - glad to meet you too - thanks for your thanks! I'd sort-of retired from here then found some other bits and pieces to add to, so I've returned for a bit. Not sure I know very much about Irish history at all compared to some I'm sure! tho thought I could add a few bits of stuff to some of the de Burgh/Burke pages on here.

I hope you don't feel that I've messed-up your page on the 7th Earl - all I've hoped to do is to try to add infoboxes, portal bars and the heraldry to all the Earls and Marquesses and all the Burkes pages, and please just redo anything you're not happy with - cos I might have mistakenly cut something out or made a mistake anyway. Plus everyone has a diferent view on how things should be - we can all only try to work together on these things!

Dear Will de Burgh. You say you have retired, but you are still editing (which is very welcome!). I feel I can then also still talk to you. I noticed that you add citations (which is probably what we need most.) However, what should the citation style be? I have added citations with Sfn, while you use <ref>. Thanks. I keep trying to finish things off then end-up thinking of something else and returning so I've ended-up retiring then returning.

I've tried to add all the OxfordDNB and DIrishB biographies for all the Clanricardes MacWilliam Iochtars and improve the House of Burgh page. trying to do that as quickly as possible - short of time, I just used the visual editing citation button and 'automatically' generated the citations. (I'm not familiar with Sfn.). So, please change anything I've done to fit in with Sfn if you wish, I don't mind - my idea was just to add all these biography references that exist. Lead sentence

Dear Will de Burgh. Your latest edit on William Burke, 7th Earl of Clanricarde. You changed the lead sentence from "William Burke, 7th Earl of Clanricarde ... fought " -> "William Burke, 7th Earl of Clanricarde ... was an Irish peer who fought " and say that this is an improvement. It adds in fact the statement "an earl is a peer", nothing new and not anything specific to the 7th Earl that should be mentioned in his lead. I think this kind of addition is meant by MOS:REDUNDANCY, which tells us to avoid lead sentences of the genre "Pakistani–Iraqi relations are the relations between Pakistan and Iraq." I suggest do something more useful. There are many aspects of the 7th Earls life that are not well covered in his article. For example even if he was there to save the earldom from extinction at his cousin's death without son, I think a lot of the property was lost to his cousin's daughter and to his cousin's widow. That should be explained. There are certainly many other and perhaps more important gaps that should be filled of whose existence I am not even aware yet. thanks for your comment on the 7th Earl of Clanricarde. Many of the Clanricarde/Earls of Clanricarde and Earls of Mayo/Iochtars' lead sentences/intro's have been unclear. A lot of them have not explained clearly who the people are - so I have been trying to improve them all.

Before my edit, yes, the 7th Earl's lead sentence was full of lots of information but nowhere did it actually say very simply that he was an Irish peer (like for other peers or politicians - e.g. famous people's pages like Churchill, Roosevelt, they all say something simple like they were a British statesman, American politician). So, all I have tried to do is 'improve' (probably wrong word to use) these pages by making the first/lead sentence clearer on who these people were, why significant and try to overview careers.

Your point on "Pakistani–Iraqi relations are the relations between Pakistan and Iraq." is that the sentence is useless, a statement of the obvious just repeating itself and tells us nothing. But what I have been trying to do is not statements of the obvious. I am not adding 'Clanricarde was a human' - and to state that he was an 'Irish peer' is factually correct. Like I say, Roosevelt 'was an American politician and attorney who...' and Churchill 'was a British statesman who served as...'. These are statements of the obvious in one sense (because we already know that) - but for those people who don't know... perhaps they need to know that the 7th Earl was an Irish peer?

Sorry if you have found my edit not to be an improvement but you can always change it back if you feel my suggestion wasn't an improvement. I'm no expert on the 7th Earl or the others so I have tried to make only very minor edits to the pages.

Please note that disambiguation pages like Bourke are meant to help readers find a specific existing article quickly and easily. For that reason, they have guidelines that are different from articles. From the Wikipedia:Disambiguation dos and don'ts you should:

• Limit descriptions to what's necessary, with no punctuation at the end
• Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry that mentions the title being disambiguated
• Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
• Don't list every article containing the title - only ones that need disambiguating

Thanks - yes - following the example of several other surname pages I found I've tried to add all Burke people disambiguation pages to the Burke surname page in alphabetical order. I thought it would be more useful for people to be able to add other people pages to it, and I've tried to follow the format. Though I haven't renamed any disambig. pages to include the (disambiguation) bit that is missing in the title on a few of them. WilldeBurgh (talk) 08:28, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
