WP:NCHD question on user and talk pages[edit]

See Wikipedia:User page and Wikipedia:Talk page. Every user account has a user page and a talk page. Once you created an account your userpage would be at the name you chose, appended by "user:", and a talk page appended by "user talk:". Note that almost every page on Wikipedia has an associated talk page, accessible by clicking the "discussion" tab when you are on a page. Article talk pages are for discussing changes/improvements etc. to the article.

You can use your user page as you see fit, within limits; it is for anything that is compatible with the Wikipedia project. However, it is a mistake to think of it as a homepage as Wikipedia is not a blog, webspace provider, or social networking site. User talk pages are for messages between users, and yes, you get the orange bar when any modifiction is made to your user talk page. Thus when you leave a message for another user on theirs, they and only they get an orange bar as a result of your message.

As for designs, yes you can use others' designs. All users by default license their contributions for reuse by editing here. As for design ideas and help, please see User:The Transhumanist/User page designWikipedia:WikiProject User Page Help and User:Danieltiger45/Userpage design. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit 12:54, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Error in user page link[edit]

The "Talk" link from your user page, which should lead here, goes to another user's talk page, instead. You need to fix User:Whiteandnerdy111/menu. In the future, make a habit of clicking on every link you make to test that it really goes to the right place. This is especially important when editing encyclopedia articles. Friendly regards --Ronja 06:32, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Signpost[edit]

Sorry! User:PalaceGuard008 has offered to do the In the News for November 19! Thanks for offering anyway, and if I'm away again, I'll be sure to let you know first. enochlau (talk) 04:56, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the PCP![edit]

Thanks for joining the Pokémon Collaborative Project! We hope you have a great time editing Pokémon articles. If you have any questions about the articles, style, content, or simply what our favourite Pokémon are (our opinions vary, trust us!), leave a message on the project talk page. Cheers, and happy editing! --Superpika66 02:33, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Election[edit]

Many TV shows are saying it, but the AEC hasn't officialy announced the result. Best keep it official. Although, Wikinews needs all the latest details, and the predictions made by these TV shows are relevant. But, the TV shows are only predictions, not offical yet. themit (talk) 10:20, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question about banning[edit]

Being banned from editing means that the user may not edit pages until the ban has expired--it does not prevent the user from reading wikipedia, though. That particular user has a 1-year ban, which will end in April 2008. If you want to know more about our banning policy, then take a look at Wikipedia:Banning policy. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. --Sopoforic (talk) 19:10, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arbitration Committee clerking[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your interest in working with me as an Arbitration Committee Clerk on a new case. Generally, new clerks are chosen from among editors who have been active on the arbitration or dispute-resolution pages, and begin by working on various tasks on these pages. The particular case that you expressed interested in will be a high-profile case involving a dispute between administrators and probably would not be the best place for someone to make a debut. If you have not already, you should take a look at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Clerks, which discusses the role of the clerks and how they are selected. If you are interested in following up, please let us know, but most likely no new clerks or clerk-helpers will be selected until after the current arbitrator election is completed. Thanks again for your interest and best regards. Newyorkbrad (talk) 17:38, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh ... I also just noticed one other thing, which is that you commented on the Physchim62 case and stated a strong opinion on what the outcome should be. Generally, to preserve neutrality, a clerk who has commented on the request for arbitration will not be the one who handles that case if it is accepted. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 01:41, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your enthusiasm! Unfortunately, official Clerks (or those working under official clerks) and Arbitrators should open up cases. Before you get around to being "the clerk" for a certain case, I suggest that you watch a certain case and assist the Clerk with it, by answering others questions and fixing formatting errors. I suggest you follow that and the other suggestions by Newyorkbrad if you would like to assist with clerking. Thanks again! :-) Cbrown1023 talk 21:00, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An Arbitration case in which you commented has been opened, and is located here. Please add any evidence you may wish the Arbitrators to consider to the evidence sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Physchim62/Evidence. Please submit your evidence within one week, if possible. You may also contribute to the case on the workshop sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Physchim62/Workshop.

Userpage request[edit]

I'm a bit busy right now, but I'll see what I can do. In the meantime, check out User:Nihiltres/Sandbox for a teaser. :) Nihiltres{t.l} 22:54, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you have added a {{POV-check}} tag to the above article. Normally when someone adds such a tag to an article, they also leave a comment on the article talk page detailing their concerns. I have had a another look at the article and while most of the article is uncited there is nothing that I can see that is over the top in terms of POV.

Would you be able to list your concerns on the article talk page or alternatively it may be easier to be bold and fix any problems you see. Let me know if you need a hand. Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 00:09, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Final warning on arbitration "clerking"[edit]

See prior warnings above by Newyorkbrad and Cbrown1023. Yet, you did it again here; once again you are NOT an approved clerk or clerk helper. If you persist in these endeavors, much stronger action will be taken.RlevseTalk 18:14, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re your last comment at the clerk noticeboard...There's a difference, I listened when that happened and was always tried to be careful, you did neither.RlevseTalk 21:29, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kidsunited[edit]

RE: Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Kidsunited, No block log provided to original users block log. I have no idea what were you talking about. Please reconsider your move or please help me out with this "original users block log". Thanks!--Termer (talk) 20:36, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clerking[edit]

We are also happy to have help at RFCU, but please allow the checkusers to make their own decisions. That will alleviate many problems. -JodyB talk 20:47, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Technology report[edit]

Yes, it's mostly just a case of looking for changes; looking in bugzilla catches most of them. (The link that I placed at the bottom of WP:POST/N/O links to all the bugs closed in the last 7 days as RESOLVED FIXED.) The other place it's sometimes worth looking is the server admin log (also linked there); normally there's nothing interesting, but if something happens that gets the devs' attention it'll be mentioned briefly there, so that you know to follow up. Hope that helps, and I look forward to seeing the article! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ais523 (talkcontribs) 15:16, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a bit of advice: you can add links to the bug reports using the interwiki prefix bugzilla:, and some users may be interested in the version number when the bug was fixed (it starts with r and is followed by digits, usually appears in the last comment on the bug, and can be linked to with the prefix rev: rather than r.) --ais523 16:22, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

I have reverted to your adding of the inexistent {{notperformed}} tag; these should be left to bureaucrats, whether the user has withdrawn or not. Thanks :) Qst 21:37, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:High School Musical[edit]

Okay, I now understand why it was deleted. But I am not familiar with "Portals". I can help, once I get more experience? I'm sorry, but if you can show me, I can do it, I'd be happy to help. --JpGrB 23:23, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your RFA comment[edit]

Hey buddy! Don't view the Rfa as "wasting our time". The only thing that wastes time around here is vandalism. View this as a learning experience. If I may make a recommendation, take a look at our admin coaching program. It will help you gain experience, work a bit, and get you started in the right direction(s) for a successful Rfa in the future! Best of luck, and, as always, happy editing! :) Jmlk17 08:16, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can I second what Jmlk just said? I'm sure you'll be a very good admin when you get more experience here and, especially, join the Admin Coaching Programme mentioned above. There's lots of people who'll be happy to help you. Happy Christmas. Nick mallory (talk) 08:55, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't see your RfA until it was closing. I appreciate your desire to help out here. There are many excellent editors and a few excellent administrators who are still young. But I think the biggest hurdle you have right now is to better understand the whole wikipedia process. You've begun making some good edits to a variety of articles. Please focus on that for a while. I wouldn't worry too much about the other stuff. Clerking can be troubling and frustrating if you don't get it right. It might be best to sit back and watch for a while and see how that is done. You might start reading the WP:Administrators reading list to get a better idea of how things work - that was useful for me. And most importantly, don't forget to ask questions. We'd love to help you with your questions. It's probably better to ask first and many of us would be happy to help. You've done some good work. Keep it up! -JodyB talk 13:40, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom clerking page[edit]

Just for your information, I have edited Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Clerks to clarify some of the language that might have misled you. Hopefully this will avoid anyone else running into the same problem in the future. Best of luck with your editing around the wiki. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 19:40, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation[edit]

In your MedCab case comments, you indicated that you require assistance. May I be of help to you, and co-mediate if you need me? I'd be more than willing. Thanks, Keilanatalk(recall) 16:09, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, what specifically did you need help with? Keilanatalk(recall) 19:52, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
First, you should go around to all the participants and leave them a message basically saying that you've accepted the mediation and want to know if they accept you as a mediator. As for how to involve yourself in mediation, remember to stay neutral and don't take sides. I don't want to overly complicate things, so unless you want me to, I won't add myself to the mediation.
