Drafted players are not contracted to their draft teams[edit]

Hello! I’ve noticed that several of your recent edits have included adding a PWHL team to player articles for PWHL draft selections. While I share your excitement for the new league and today’s draft, it is important to keep in mind that Wikipedia only records player movements that are verified by contract (either signing or trade). No players drafted today have been signed to contracts with their draft teams and are, therefore, not members of those teams until a contract has been signed. At least one GM has already made clear that selecting a player in the draft will not guarantee a roster spot following training camp. Cheers, Spitzmauskc (talk) 01:31, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Do not reinstate this edit, because the standard is to list all in a single line. In addition, WP:BRD quite clearly says to start a discussion when you are first reverted, but you are choosing an WP:EW instead. Please stop it. – sbaio 15:27, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sbaio:
My bad, sorry. To be fair, WP:BRD is not mandatory and I had not violated WP:EW. You could have explained on the first revert instead of just saying "fixed," and per WP:EW being technically right doesn't mean you wouldn't also be guilty of edit warring if you reverted a third edit.
The reference should be reverted, the new one makes no mention of the 2023 game. Wheatzilopochtli (talk) 15:41, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:BRD is not mandatory, but it is basically how we avoid useless edit wars. In addition, nowhere did I say that you were edit warring or violated WP:EW, and just indicated that instead of discussing you are choosing the other path. If the reference that you are referring to is about the 2023 game then I restored it, because I initially did not see that you did not add the 2024 game, which I just added to the table. – sbaio 15:56, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Wheatzilopochtli. Thank you for your work on Jade Downie-Landry. Cocobb8, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

I've marked the article as reviewed, but it requires more reliable sources that are not just passing mentions to help establish notability.

Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 20:38, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Cocobb8:
I find it hard to believe that notability has not been established with the sources provided. Among the sources are articles entirely about her from La Presse, The Hockey News, and multiple McGill University publications, as well as a video interview with Hockey Canada and multiple non-trivial mentions in articles from a variety of sources. Yes, there are a lot of articles from McGill Athletics, but they are not the majority. Additionally, although there is no specific guideline for women's hockey like there is in men's, she has received preeminent honors in U Sports and the PHF, and she is a PWHL player. I also find it strange that it only took four minutes from the time that the article was moved to mainspace for you to go through all 19 citations and come to such a conclusion. Wheatzilopochtli (talk) 20:49, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for sharing your concerns. The amount of sources is not what determines notability, but their quality. The point here of the tag I added is so that other editors know that more sources are required for this article. In the case of this article, the criteria for notability in sports would apply, which is itself more demanding than the general WP:GNG. Though I may be wrong in my conclusion that more sources are required, if another reviewer comes to the opposing conclusion, they should remove the tag. Furthermore, from the sources listed here, I have not found enough that are considered reliable besides La Presse. I also wanted to point out that the interview you are talking about would be considered a primary source
and hence would not be considered a reliable source.
Please let me know if you have any other questions. Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 21:00, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cocobb8 The Hockey News is a publication of Sports Illustrated, so it would also count. Wheatzilopochtli (talk) 21:41, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
