My experience with other Wikipedias.[edit]

Hi WQUlrich, We started a kind of conversation about using Wikipedia articles from other languages in order to expand slim articles in English Wikipedia. I worked on two articles that brought me into contact with articles in other languages; Onze Kunst van Heden and List of women artists exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. I would often run into an existing article in French, German, or Dutch. The articles would be lengthy and interesting, but in many cases unreferenced , poorly referenced, or no inline citations. I was unable to create a robust article from the information found on the non-English pages. By the time I started working on Onze Kunst van Heden I would barely look at the Dutch or German article.

After our contact yesterday I was poking around at some of the articles I created along with the foreign language version. Specifically I looked at Leonard Pinkhof. In this case I believe I wrote the first article that was then translated into German a few months later. The author/editor of the German version took an almost word for word translation, stripped out the inline citations and then grouped all the sources at the bottom as "Literatur". One random sentence "Motifs from the life of Dutch Jews often appeared in his works. He also designed book covers" was added.I think we can assume that not using inline citations is the format of German Wikipedia. The French articles IMO are even more free form, adding info about family etc, with no sourcing.

TLDR - English Wikipedia strives to let the reader find out exactly where the information comes from and is superior to other languages. And one true piece of information is better than three unsourced pieces of information. Best, WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:30, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I discovered that painter of this was born in 1482, and according to the Commons that work was made in 1486, so when de la Cruz was four years old.

So, I write this to you because you are the main author of an article about de la Cruz in this Wiki. And I wonder why is it so. I would be so greatful for an answer.
