December 2016[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Capture NX. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! Important[edit]

Please understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a directory of programs and services. See WP:NOTDIR and WP:NOTPROMO, Tiderolls 15:58, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

(copied here per the request on my user talk page that conversations be maintained in single locations where possible.)
Hi Tide, from my understanding, you have rollback my edit along with others in The StarHub TV page. May I know the exact reason why? I get that the removal of the channels from that page would easily fall under the WP:NOTDIR, but I don’t entirely get the reasoning behind the removal of the entire set top boxes models section and the smart card part. I understand that for the set top box model, the pricing part could be considerable as WP:NOTPROMO, but I feel that the other parts of the set top box section and the smart card part would bring encyclopedic info directly related to how StarHub TV works, similar to, but not exactly, like, for example, Mac Mini page, where information about the tech specs of each model is listed clearly. I would like to hear your opinions, as, me as relatively newly active member could be wrong in my version of understanding how wikipedia pages should contain info. --Vincentneo (talk) 17:12, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I did not rollback your edit. I reverted your edit for the reasons stated here and in my edit summary. My edit may not represent consensus and I invite you to seek the opinion of other editors. You may find help at Wikipedia:WikiProject Television Tiderolls 20:16, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Howdy hello Tide rolls and Vincentneo! I saw a request at the Third opinion noticeboard regarding this issue. My opinion, worth what it is, is that we definitely shouldn't have a list of channels. I also think that listing the capabilities of their devices falls under WP:NOTPROMO. If someone wants to know that, they can go to the Company's website. As an encyclopedia we aren't trying to help companies sell a product. We instead report on who they are as an entity, which usually just means their history and what they've been in the news for. Hope that helps smooth things out. Smooth sailing, CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 05:47, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Alright then thanks both Tide Rolls and CaptainEek, for clearing this out... Now, another question, if you don’t mind, should Singtel TV be edited (meaning to remove similar channel and model listings) the same way that this currently is? Vincentneo (talk) 08:14, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The content you reference at Singtel TV falls under the same guidelines in my opinion. Additionally, I saw an "Upcoming" section. That would seem to go against the WP:NOTCRYSTAL guideline. I would only caution you that in my experience these articles are often monitored by editors that are willing to edit war to force their content into these articles. Be careful that in trying to do the right thing you are not drawn into situations that might run afoul of WP:Edit warring and WP:3RR. Let me know if you have any further questions. Tiderolls 12:19, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Alright then. I will leave it as is. Not interested in being drawn to such situations that you mentioned, and that in doing so would easily make the page a stub. Again, thanks for the advices given, would take better note before editing any pages in future. Vincentneo (talk) 14:32, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
