Why are you adding (Internet suicide) to Template:Suicide? Suicide pacts are hardly limited to being done over the Internet. ~~ N (t/c) 00:11, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi "N": I recently expanded the stub titled suicide pact and it now includes a lot of information about recent internet-related suicide pacts. Since there isn't a separate article or stub on internet-related suicide pacts, I was trying to introduce a little "sign post" that might lead someone looking for information about it to the right place. It's a "hot topic" right now, I myself was looking for info on the subject, and that's how I ended up writing the article myself. If there were room beside the suicide pact link, I would have added "including internet suicide pacts". But due to the lack of space, I just added "internet suicide". But the article itself is not limited to internet suicide pacts, and I don't think anyone would think it was based on what I added. Hope that makes sense. If not, please reply further.... Best, VR.

Thanks. I'm readding it. ~~ N (t/c) 01:36, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

N: I like how you reinstated it, with the "slash" instead of in parenthesis. Much better. Thanks for taking the time to read my article. Best, VR.

This is just a test message, trying to figure out how to get my name to appear at the end of a message --Victoria Ridout 02:00, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Use the second button from the left of your edit bar to insert a signature. Also, now I understand the reason for the addition to the template, but it might be an interesting idea to create a separate article concerning internet suicide pacts. Regards, --Sn0wflake 02:09, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Snowflake: I agree re a separate article. However, they tell me that my account is "too new" to do such a thing. So perhaps at some point in the future I will undertake that. Re my signature at the end of my post. Does it show up as link to you, and does that link lead to my User Page? It doesn't to me (like everyone else's does), so I was just wondering if I'm doing something wrong or what.... Thanks muchly, --Victoria Ridout 02:15, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

I am sure that soon you will be able to create articles. I didn't know such a restriction was being imposed, to tell the truth, but it should not hold for more than 72 hours. No, your signature does not show as a weblink, but maybe you have activated "Raw signatures" at your Preferences page? That might be it. --Sn0wflake 02:26, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mmmmmmm. Well, I already HAVE activated "raw signatures". On another page it tells me to "sign my name" by typing in four tildas. So here goes.... Victoria 02:34, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Alright! I figured it out. Now I just have to fix the time thing.... --Victoria Ridout 02:47, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You probably understood that I meant you shouldn't have that option on, right? :) Anyway, welcome to the Wikipedia. Feel free to refer to me or Nickptar (he's also one one the "good guys") in case you have any doubts. Cheers, --Sn0wflake 02:58, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Snowflake. I guess I'll find out on my own who the "bad guys" are, eh? ;-) --Victoria 03:01, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't worry too much about bad guys -- as a general rule, we try not to bite new editors. Oh, and Welcome! .:.Jareth.:. babelfish 03:21, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

LOL, good to know, Jareth. I, in turn, will try to behave myself and not provoke any dog fights. There's nothing uglier than anal-retentive editor types going at it over the finer points of punctuation! --Victoria 04:58, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Exceptional Newcomer Award[edit]

For her impressive expansion of the Victor Hugo article during her first week as a Wikipeidan, I hereby declare Victoria Ridout an Exceptional Newcomer. --TantalumTelluride 22:11, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Awwwww, that's so cute... Almost worth all the pain.... hehe... just kidding.... --Victoria 01:26, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Customizing your signature[edit]

I've noticed that you're logged in as User:Victoria Ridout but you're signing your messages with a link to the user page of User:Victoria. Users who access your user pages from page histories and other automated logs are therefore directed to a different set of user pages than those who access them through your signature. I'm not sure whether you're doing this on purpose or even if you're aware of it, but you should probably try to avoid this dual identity because it can be confusing to other Wikipedians. Here are a couple of possible ways to fix this problem:

  1. If you are currently typing your signature manually, try using four tildes instead. You can customize your automatic signature by following the instructions at Wikipedia:Sign your posts on talk pages#Customizing your signature.
  2. If you're already typing four tildes, then you've probably already customized your signature in your User:Victoria Ridout preferences to link to your User:Victoria user page, and that's what's causing the confusion. Try to direct your signature to the correct page.
  3. You might want to have an admin delete the user page and user talk page of the account that you don't want to use. To do this, type {{deletebecause|I no longer use this account; I edit Wikipedia under the [[User:Victoria Ridout]] account.}} or something to that effect on both the user page and the user talk page of the User:Victoria account (or vice versa).

If you have any questions, list them below or ask me on my talk page. --TantalumTelluride 07:35, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Article size[edit]

I just want to make sure you are aware of the guidelines at Wikipedia:Article size because Victor Hugo now is at 34KB. Although size limitations are not as strict as they once were, you might want to start thinking about breaking sections out into separate articles. Again, note that article size is now mostly a stylistic concern rather than a technical limitation. Since a considerable portion of Victor Hugo consists of lists of works, the size could potentially exceed 32KB without causing any significant problems. But at this article's current rate of expansion, who knows what measures might need to be taken in the near future? --TantalumTelluride 06:04, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review[edit]

Hi, Victoria. I've requested a peer review for Victor Hugo. I know you've been busy lately, but if you get a chance, you're welcome to comment. --TantalumTelluride 05:05, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
