Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

Dear Varnent: Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user talk (discussion) page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. A third option is to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator.

One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD!   -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 06:35, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:LGBT[edit]

Hi, Varnent, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

Hello from OutHistory and other wiki spaces.[edit]

Hello - I am a WikiWalker of many years. Glad that you are interested in OutHistory - I had seen it for many years and then a friend of mine got on the board and I have been working with them on the wiki. Look forward to building things with you! Best, MarkDilley (main wiki home: http://MarkDilley.org)

Hey Mark! It's good to see you on another wiki outside WikiIndex - you truly are a WikiWalker!  :) I've actually been thinking more about OutHistory on WikiQueer and think engaging them in transclusion of content from their Wiki to WikiQueer would make the most sense. Now I just need to engage them officially and see if we can get that partnership developed. In a perfect world I'd love to just hand the whole History section of WikiQueer to their use and develop it to integrate with OutHistory. My hunch is that unlike Wikipedia, their policies would be flexible enough to cover the wider array of content folks may be interested in adding. Use of transclusion would then allow for easier integration into the non-history - and perhaps more policy oriented - parts of WikiQueer that they may be less inclined to link to from OutHistory. It looks like they have a university affiliation and that can complicate inclusion of advocacy efforts.  :) I'm also setting up OH: and OutHist: for interwiki linking. BTW - I'll probably see you over at MeatballWiki next - trying to setup a bus stop. On a "plug" related note - still looking for Global Advisors if you or any wiki friends are interested.  :) --Varnent (talk) 03:04, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hello - I have sent that link to 3 good friends already - will keep my ear on the ground for more. Love you ideas for working with OutHistory. Excited to come up with a proposal for them!! :-) I am their friendly wiki consultant and not a decision maker - and I do love the idea!! :-) Best, MarkDilley
Excellent - thank you! I got an inquiry today that reads like someone you may have encountered in the wikiverse.  :) I sent you an email to help get a proposal your way to look at for OutHistory. Let me know if you didn't get the email for some reason.  :) --Varnent (talk) 02:40, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
