Short descriptions[edit]

Please make sure you are adding a new line after using the {{Short description}} template. Your edits here and here failed to do this. --GoneIn60 (talk) 16:08, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Basically I try to do that, but these edits were in the mobile app, where I am not aware of any possibility of inserting a line break Tobiasi0 (talk) 19:52, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I don't do a lot of mobile editing, but I'm sure there's a way. Perhaps ask for advice at WP:TEA when you have time. --GoneIn60 (talk) 20:33, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Another thing...
Short descriptions should almost always be 40 characters or less per the guideline at WP:SDFORMAT. Exceeding it by a few characters on rare occasions is acceptable. However, descriptions like, "Shuttle roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain" is way too long at 50 characters. I modified this one you changed recently to "Shuttle roller coaster at Magic Mountain", but even just "Roller coaster at Magic Mountain" would be good enough. --GoneIn60 (talk) 20:32, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Are there no sensible exceptions - not even when it comes to the completeness of a proper name? The "shuttle" is superfluous, I can see that, but to partially omit the name of the park is not a particularly elegant solution Tobiasi0 (talk) 21:20, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Are you aware of how short descriptions are used? The article title is shown in the results, then in smaller font below the title is the short description. Often, these coaster articles already have "Six Flags Magic Mountain" in the title, so repeating any part of the park name in the short description would be redundant. Also if the short description is too long, then it will be cut off on mobile phones with an ellipsis.
The most significant part of "Shuttle roller coaster at Magic Mountain" is "roller coaster". Everything else in that statement can technically be axed. The primary benefit here is to separate similarly-named articles by their description in the search results. The term "roller coaster" by itself would be enough in most cases (if not EVERY case). --GoneIn60 (talk) 21:53, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
