DYKFICTION

Hmmm. This. What conenus, discussion, vote or RfC is this based on? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:31, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

Hey! responded at Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Guidelines :) theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 06:48, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

Request for response.

Regarding the close of the Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#Discussing_the_DYK_guideline_of_one_DYK_per_article_maximum, you are the only one of the four DYK admins not to respond regarding going forward. P.S. I see you have edited Wikipedia:Did you know/Guidelines since the close, but it does not seem to be related to the close.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:41, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

Responded there :) yep, i have edited the guidelines page. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 19:28, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for improving articles in January! I remember Ewa Podleś on the Main page, and had - believe it or not - two musical DYK today. Shalom chaverim. On vacation, with something for your sweet tooth -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:05, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

pshaw

Hey, tlc! I'm trying to promote Template:Did_you_know_nominations/Homecoming_(photograph) into prep 5, and it keeps hanging up...any clue what I'm doing wrong? Valereee (talk) 16:50, 27 January 2024 (UTC)

Hey val! Looks like Launchballer beat you to it – in the future, if you get a PSHAW error (hopefully you're on chrome), hit "inspect", go to "console", and copy/paste whatever error message you're gettin' there. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 03:31, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
I will try to remember this lol...yes, I'm on Chrome. Thanks! Valereee (talk) 10:33, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

Old wikilink in PSHAW script

Hey, just to let you know that the coded wikilink at User:Theleekycauldron/Scripts/PSHAW/main.js#L-15 leads to a page that no longer exists. I haven't done that much investigating, but I'm guessing that's the reason the edit summary in Special:Diff/1199843424 contains a redlink :) Best, ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 03:29, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

yeaah, should probably fix that all up at some point :) thanks! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 03:30, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

Theleekycauldron, can I ask you to please take a look at this nomination, and see whether you think my objection is warranted or not. I've stopped the nomination in its tracks, but on further reflection, while the hook seems to be obscuring the general thrust of the article, I'm not sure whether that is a sufficient objection, nor whether the issue about whether the 0.2% number is adequately sourced based on the current discussion linked to by the nominator should even hold things up. I'd appreciate it if you could render an opinion, and will defer to you. Thank you very much. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:50, 4 February 2024 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Oof. If Wikipedia's core purpose is to inform readers, then using a hook that gives an impression counter to the general thrust of an article hinders that purpose. I also agree that the use of "could" in the hook is part of the issue, given that we're talking about a purely hypothetical policy proposal. My view is that it would be irresponsible of us to run that hook given the lack of context, just as it would be irresponsible to run a negative BLP hook. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 04:16, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
Sdkb, I just saw that despite my ? icon, which should have held it from being promoted, the nomination was promoted anyway about four hours after I posted the above by AirshipJungleman29, who had earlier approved it as confirmation of a first-time reviewer's review. I'm a little too involved to pull the nomination myself, at this point, but if either you or theleekycauldron feel it appropriate to do so, I have no objections. It seems that, given the opposite opinion being posted to the nomination about an hour after I posted here, this is going to be controversial. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:10, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't know why I did that—I must have had a total brainfreeze. Maybe I should take a break from prepping (I've done most of the past month and the last fourteen sets on the trot). ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 05:39, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
If you could correct my error and take the nom back to DYK, I'd be very grateful (difficult for me to do right now from a mobile device). ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 05:41, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
AirshipJungleman29, I'd already left the computer for the night, or I would have been happy to do so. Thank you for all the prep work; I once did all sets for six of the seven days between Christmas and New Years, and this was back in the days of three sets a day (six hooks per set), and it's exhausting to be constantly at work like that. WikiCup 2024 February newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer Generalissima (submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Would Sun Haven be DYK after it gets approved?

I made the Draft:Sun Haven article which is a farm sim game. If that gets approved, (i.e. reviewed and moved to article), would that video game pop up on DYK? Obviously it would not be approved rn due to notability reasons. JuniperChill (talk) 15:31, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

Hey, JuniperChill! The important thing is to make sure that the article passes 1500 characters of prose (which it does, 1805) and that it's fully cited to reasonably reliable sources. I think you're in decent shape – most submissions pass DYK after some work, and I definitely think you'd be within spitting distance. Best of luck to you! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 23:45, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
That's great to hear @theleekycauldron! If it ever gets approved, I will remember to nominate it for DYK. JuniperChill (talk) 09:55, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

February music

story · music · places

I liked your RfA comment! - Today I am happy about a singer on the Main page (at least for the first hours), after TFA the same day last year. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:39, 7 February 2024 (UTC)

When I made today's story I was sure Alfred Grosser would appear on RD today, which may happen or not but I go to bed. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:42, 10 February 2024 (UTC)

Thanks to Seiji Ozawa. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:16, 12 February 2024 (UTC)

The image, taken on a cemetery last year after the funeral of a distant but dear family member, commemorates today, with thanks for their achievements, four subjects mentioned on the Main page and Vami_IV, a friend here. Listen to music by Tchaikovsky (an article where one of the four is pictured), sung by today's subject (whose performance on stage I enjoyed two days ago). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:57, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Essay link

Hello, I have noticed that your essay "It's okay to be wrong" has been redlinked on your user page. I have found the page it was moved to, and it would be greatly appreciated if you could fix the link. Out of respect, I will not edit it myself. Thank you! 2003LN6 19:22, 19 February 2024 (UTC)

@2003 LN6: thanks for the heads-up! honestly, I think that one needs to go through the meat grinder and back if i'm gonna put a correct link there, but that really is something I should do someday :) theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 09:21, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Village pump/Proposals

Did you mean to remove the two RfCs regarding reformatting discussions at RFA? As far as I could tell, although the civility discussion had concluded and been withdrawn, these other two discussions were still active and had not yet reached a consensus either for or against. Duly signed, WaltClipper -(talk) 13:32, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Yes, now I see that you did, in fact, intend to merge them onto a single page. Disregard my question! Duly signed, WaltClipper -(talk) 14:08, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
