I saw the difficulty, so said that he is from Odessa and works at a German University. Struck by the reviewer. Orange County charter vs. state constitution

Thank you for contributing an alternative. However, there is a difference between the amendment to the county charter and the proposed amendment to the state constitution that makes the suggested alternative incorrect. The wording in my DYK suggestion is about the first county charter amendment that gave legal rights to nature, specifically, to the waters in that county alone by amending the existing charter for the county government.

This is a fact based on the passage of the county charter amendment in the 2020 election.

The right to clean and healthy waters being proposed for the state constitution (that is not the subject of the DYK) differs, and I believe that the wording you have suggested as an alternative is misleading because the state constitution amendment will not grant a right to nature. The amendment of the state constitution will provide a law about enforcement of a recognized right of Florida citizens to clean and healthy waters and to provide the legal pathways to enforce that.

Could you please retract your alternative suggestion?

If you do, I will add (or you could add) the following as the alternative suggestion,

GIF and "graphics"

I see that you reverted my addition of "graphics" as an example of a word with a hard 'g' sound in the lead section of Pronunciation of GIF. I disagree with your view that the example was inappropriately "pointed". In fact, that is a highly notable example that is discussed extensively in the body of the article, supported by five citations. Please see the first paragraph of the "Arguments" section. I think that example is worth mentioning in the lead, since much of the discussion of how to pronounce the acronym centers around the relationship to that word. —⁠ ⁠BarrelProof (talk) 19:31, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

@BarrelProof: Yes, I know it's highly discussed – that discussion is precisely why it should not be included in the lead as a one-word mention. It's not an accepted argument, it's disputed, and putting the word in the lead makes it seem like it's not (or like we're making a point in favour of it). Putting graphics in the lead that way has the effect of unfairly setting forward the system_acronym argument without the context of why it's disputed. I disagree, since I think omitting any hint of that from the lead while describing the advocacy of the soft g approach there results in a clear bias in the other direction. @SL93: I'm not indifferent to U.S. centrism, but it's about a U.S. figure and the hook mentions that a U.S. organization is striking. People can put together from context which currency is relevant. Latter / last

Hi Leeky

Hope you're having a good morning. Just a quick heads up that I think you may have introduced a grammatical error in your edit here: here, changing last to latter. Per [1], if there are two things in the list, then "latter" is correct but if there are three or more then it should be "last". For example:

• "He prefers iOS to Android, because the latter is not as user-friendly."
• "She read Emma, Northanger Abbey and Mansfield Park and liked the last the most."

This point was also mentioned at Template:Did you know nominations/Betts, Hall, Leavell and Trucks during the nom page. Possible PSHAW problem

Hi, in this edit you promoted a hook that had been struck. I dunno how PSHAW is used, but I'm guessing that you told it to promote hook ALT0a, but it erroneously promoted ALT0. • Hey, Mandarax! What I'll tell you is that this isn't explicitly a PSHAW error – the error was fully my own in selecting and promoting the stricken hook. That said, the problem could have been avoided if PSHAW refused to recognize stricken hooks; I remember including a piece of code like that, but it ended up breaking the program in ways I can't quite remember. Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000 at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

• Can I appeal to you to withdraw your objection to the image at Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#Prep_4:_Juneteenth_flag_(nom)? After making the objection, many, many people have shown up supporting the image, and, perhaps their arguments, and, I humbly hope, my arguments, might be convincing? Because we only have one day now, and an admin won't put it in the top slot for that day without consensus, which is everyone except you, and one other editor who objects because he wants the image to be even more similar to the flag, not less, it's Kafkaesque. Could you please review the arguments, and hopefully have them convince you, and say as much?

Hey there, GRuban! First – listen, you gotta know that I only have the highest respect for you and Bruxton. And thank you for the images for Riner :) I didn't know about the U.S. Copyright Office index when I first wrote that, so I thought those two were copyrighted by nature of being published by a large newspaper. Unfortunately, I can't say I'm on board. For me, it simply comes down to the idea that this collection of symbols is copyrighted, no matter what order they're in – and the fact that we're not pretending that this doesn't represent the Juneteenth flag makes me squeamish. I know it's not a pixel-for-pixel recreation on two of the symbols, but all the same. I think you're right that there is consensus for the idea – I don't know why an admin hasn't acted on this yet.

That said, maybe there's a compromise solution? Narutolovehinata5 has an interesting idea I definitely support... maybe we could get that up and running less controversially, and an admin has already said they're willing.

I do recognize your predicament bureaucratically, which I'm sorry about; these decisions often come close, too close to the deadline. I know we disagree on this one, but in the end – flag or person – I do hope an admin will come along and swap in an image that we all can live with. Claudia Riner

My updated computer does not support my photoshop software so I cannot change anything. But I will re-register my disappointment in your efforts here. I did not at all understand why you just started a fire and then left. And when you have new information you dismiss it. Regarding Eeng, they are just disagreeable in my experience. DYK is clearly your fiefdom and you have well earned clout there: unfortunately you can use it to jam things up. As a relatively new editor here I have not experienced much friction from editors yet; when I had an inkling of it I withdrew, like I did with a DYK nomination. I just felt this was an important one, and after watching an Easter hook get run weeks after Easter I nominated this one early. Then when an image issue arose, I asked us all to discuss the new image on May 30. You waited until 3 days prior to hit this image. I know editors can have bad days and take it out on others, but geez. I would like to see your promoted set stay as it is because it is a great window into "making of the sausage" on the project, like other ridiculous discussions on wikipedia. surprised you are around today ;) - joy found on a bike tour, songs updated, but with a sad heart as explained on my talk, next to the flowers (or look for "Can we forget pettiness, please." - Language question: I understand that "advanced" means something like "moving forward improving"? If so, the hook about Paula Lizell, sayings that Wagner singing is an advancement over coloratura, is questionable, because I just don't think any reliable source would say so. (Heavy and loud is no advancement over sparkling and brilliant.) Is there a better expression to say neutrally that she first sang this, then that? (... on top of my problem with any hook that could be applied to hundreds of subjects, because guess what, it's just typical for opera singers to go from light to heavy, ... and on top of me being cross that a wonderful featured picture was not taken, which was the only reason to create the article.) Ugh, I gave up – the rule was designed to prevent me from spend sleepless hours in front of the computer, editing when no one's around, and it doesn't seem to have worked. But hey, messages from Gerda, always a fun time :) Sorry to hear about May's story, though. I think the equivalent case for others might be Jimmy Saville or Bill Cosby, they were both childhood heroes to many. Advancement can just mean "moving forward" – it's generally meant positively or at least affirmatively, but that's not necessarily the case. "The knight advanced menacingly towards the king, sword in hand". Book of Common Prayer (1845 illuminated version)

I was thinking of this as a tweak to the hook - ".... that Owen Jones' elaborately ornamented Book of Common Prayer was said by the Oxford University Press to have "pointed to the direction that books in general were to follow in the Victorian Age"? The publisher of all the Oxford Guides could be added to the article with the book title also.
