believe it or not, after having been postponed for people who recently died again and again, and then for opera singers because in June we wanted music, I managed to expand Claudia Winterstein which is now better than its German version. 3 steps missing: more lead - ibox - DYK nom. - I hope you won't be executed like the pictured Claudia who features prominently in Monteverdi's opera. In the last production I saw (during the re-opening of Berlin State Opera after a decade of restoration), Poppea was left alone in the end, pregnant, and her new husband (who had Claudia executed) leaving happily with another man ... - Your hook is what DYK seems to want, so who am I to say something of substance about the subject? Also: the German job title has no good equivalent because Chief Whip really is not it. - Looks like that was one of my mistakes of 2022 to better not repeat. I feel sorry for Ipigott's articles, which were my key concern. For about 10 years, project opera produced DYK, until a few decided it's a niche topic. I will keep approving a hook saying no more than that a subject died an unusual death, but please don't ask me to do the same for the subjects whose stories I want to tell, not just a little quirky thing from their lives (because millions look at the Main page, but only thousands actually click, - better offer something to the millions). - Enjoying, yesterday Voces8, take any piece and check for your playlist (Beati perhaps). The discussion didn't cause me distress because I had no time to even read it, and it seems I better keep it that way. I made my point (the umptieth time) on my talk: I want to say something substantial about subjects, especially when alive or recently died. Take Bumann. That this German conductor worked predominantly in Poland, during the Cold War, is key, and his choice of music (and Falstaff is a FA, written by VivaVerdi, made FA by Tim riley, after VivaVerdi died), - not that he toured to Japan (which many did), and I'll never understand why not say both. Why can't some have their hooks saying a man died an unusal death, a woman couldn't become what she wanted for circumstances, but just don't ask me to write such hooks. Saying about Semenenko, a great violinist, nothing than that he stranded, that caused me distress. - I won't ask you again, but the problem - seen from my side - is not me but one other editor who - after three people said a hook is fine, requested two of them to look at his. It left me speechless. I don't have the language to tell him that his way of wasting our time is unacceptable. (In German, I could.) The original hook was approved on 10 July. Today, the idea of requesting an iban crossed my mind, but I'd rather avoid that if at all possible. - All the sopranos had four-digit results which I think is satisfactory for 12-hour runs, so I'm not frustrated at all ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:45, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022
Hello Theleekycauldron/Archive/2022,
- Backlog status
After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.
Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.
- Coordination
- MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
- Open letter to the WMF
- The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
- TIP - Reviewing by subject
- Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
- New reviewers
- The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing

I am back (for real this time)
Hello TLC and DYK page watchers
I had planned to return to the Wiki full-time at the beginning of the summer, but an unexpected passing of a close friend took me away from Wikipedia again. I took anothrt long break from editing the site. However, I am now feeling better and hope to return to my former activity level in about three days. This includes the completion of DYKs.

Hi, I have been cleaning up Special:WantedTemplates and noticed your script page is transcluding Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:-\?. This is because the backend software is parsing the curly braces as templates. An easy way to fix this is to put
// <nowiki>at the top of your script, and

hello, theleekycauldron! i had a question regarding this article and the associated blurb. use of the word "thoughtful" in tfa blurbs has been previously objected to, with the concern that using the word "in Wikipedia's voice ... could be seen as a value judgment". with this in mind, would you consider the use of the word "thoughtful", in either the blurb or article lead, to be appropriate in this case? the word does not appear to be used in the article body, so i am admittedly unsure which sources were used to support this character description. dying (talk) 11:29, 5 August 2022 (UTC)

- EEng! what a pleasant surprise. i had started drafting a comment to one of your mos:num edits about a week ago, but had forgotten about it. thanks for reminding me.in any case, regarding this blurb, to be honest, i am not sure if there are any issues with the other adjectives used, and was hoping to get some additional input from editors with more experience than i have. of the adjectives used, i am only aware of "thoughtful" being considered problematic at wp:errors. there was an objection to the word "impactful" in a dyk hook earlier this week, but its use appears to be backed by sources, and i am not sure if "thoughtful" here is as well. a similar concern was brought up during the fac review.admittedly, i personally had not read the word "thoughtful" as a value judgement when i was reviewing the blurb that was objected to, which is why i had previously missed the issue. the word was in the version of the article promoted to fa status, and had remained in the blurb even though another editor had apparently caught the issue in the article and replaced the word with "introspective". the blurb was similarly changed in response to the error report.since that report, i have noticed that a blurb last month had also used the word "thoughtful", but i think the context in that blurb makes it more clear that the word was not intended to be a value judgement.is there no issue with the word "thoughtful" if it is used to describe a fictional character? dying (talk) 21:55, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
- One way or another, if thoughtful is a value judgment, then certainly those other words are value judgments as well. Re sourcing: characterizations (in the article itself) of a fictional character can arguably be a bit looser than those of a real person, because they might be considered plot elements. - yeah, i was actually also thinking that those other adjectives could also be seen as value judgements. however, since "introspective" was considered an appropriate replacement, and "unconventional" (which was also used in the lorde blurb) raised no issues, there appears to have been a line drawn somewhere, though i am not exactly sure where. in any case, i only raised this point in case theleekycauldron was not previously aware of any possible issues of using this word. however, since the blurb is currently on the main page, and it appears that theleekycauldron is busy enjoying her vacation, i think it is best to simply let wp:errors handle it at this point if someone does complain. thanks for the input, EEng! dying (talk) 14:14, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
- One way or another, if thoughtful is a value judgment, then certainly those other words are value judgments as well. Re sourcing: characterizations (in the article itself) of a fictional character can arguably be a bit looser than those of a real person, because they might be considered plot elements. - EEng! what a pleasant surprise. i had started drafting a comment to one of your mos:num edits about a week ago, but had forgotten about it. thanks for reminding me.in any case, regarding this blurb, to be honest, i am not sure if there are any issues with the other adjectives used, and was hoping to get some additional input from editors with more experience than i have. of the adjectives used, i am only aware of "thoughtful" being considered problematic at wp:errors. there was an objection to the word "impactful" in a dyk hook earlier this week, but its use appears to be backed by sources, and i am not sure if "thoughtful" here is as well. a similar concern was brought up during the fac review.admittedly, i personally had not read the word "thoughtful" as a value judgement when i was reviewing the blurb that was objected to, which is why i had previously missed the issue. the word was in the version of the article promoted to fa status, and had remained in the blurb even though another editor had apparently caught the issue in the article and replaced the word with "introspective". the blurb was similarly changed in response to the error report.since that report, i have noticed that a blurb last month had also used the word "thoughtful", but i think the context in that blurb makes it more clear that the word was not intended to be a value judgement.is there no issue with the word "thoughtful" if it is used to describe a fictional character? dying (talk) 21:55, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

Ruslana Pysanka made the stats, perhaps helped by the German Wikipedia featuring her the same day, with almost the same hook, but article and hook by others, - I noticed only today that it had run? The first time that DYK stats were higher than RD stats. A Spanish opera singer mentioned with the 2 roles achieved 6.7k+. Zofia Posmysz had 4k+ yesterday. - Good wishes for C. On DYK stats: I disagree with that it's the bold link only that's new. I heard a concert on 8 July, and it was all new: the first touring concert of Bach's choir in three years, and with the new conductor, at a place I love. Now what I can I do to tell the world? The choir article is dated and far away from GA, the conductor is new but had his DYK already, the church had its DYK, - all I can use is the pieces. I tried one, and I'll try again. Several had their articles already, one I couldn't expand 5* (only 3* or so), for one I was too late ... - DYK that several singers only got articles because I needed something new to promote Bach cantatas that were there before I was on Wikipedia? - In a nutshell: the news is the complete hook, not only the bold article, - at least for me. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:51, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
