"Becoming better edior"

If somebody titles a discussion "Becoming better edior" and asks "How to become better editor?" and "How i can practice editing wouldn't i be just nuisance if i do that?", then it's not obvious to me that looking for grammar mistakes is something for which they're obviously well suited. -- Hoary (talk) 23:34, 13 June 2023 (UTC)

@Hoary: Yes... I now notice their worrying lack of grammatical skills themselves. But to me, it really seemed like you were pre-emptively forbidding them from contributing a certain way. Apmh 00:00, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

Yes, rather than write "No, please don't look for grammar mistakes. Instead, help look for [...]", I could beneficially have written "Rather than looking for grammar mistakes, help look for [...]". Actually I think that encouraging people to look for "grammar mistakes" is more generally a poor idea. Squillions of en:Wikipedia editors have an excellent (unconscious) command of English grammar, but a sizeable minority of these are likely to have unfortunate (conscious) notions of "English grammar", being deluded that this is an arcane practice that forbids "singular they", "comprised of", and miscellaneous other bugbears of deluded "authorities" and dimwitted teachers. Better to nudge editors (though not this one) toward "rewriting awkwardly phrased text" or similar, with no mention of either "grammar" or "correctness". -- Hoary (talk) 00:36, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello Apmh:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
