Kudos for a well written article! I wanted to inform you that I have nominated a fact from the article to appear on Wikipedia's main page in the Did you know section. You can find the nomination here. Please feel free to nominate alternate hooks/facts if you like. Ciridae (talk) 09:00, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Nesticus cellulanus[edit]

On 15 March 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Nesticus cellulanus, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the colour of the markings on Nesticus cellulanus can vary depending on the light level of the habitat, with darker habitats causing lighter markings? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Nesticus cellulanus. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Nesticus cellulanus), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Reference quotes[edit]

Is there any reason in particular that your references are all in quotes? Per WP:repeatedcitations, quotes are only required if you have spaces in the name. For instance <ref name="Simon, 1895"> needs quotes, but <ref name=Simo1895> doesn't. I picked my particular style (first 4 author/4 year digits) to shorten refs and avoid quotes because I think they look ugly [personal preference], but it looks like you're doing both the shortened version and the quotes. I'm just stopping by to make sure you know the quotes are only needed if the refname has any spaces in it and bc I think quotes are ugly... Anyway, thanks for all the work you've done so far, Cheers! Sesamehoneytart 11:55, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks for letting me know! There's no reason besides inexperience, I'll be sure to only use them when necessary in future. ThatSpiderByte (talk) 22:23, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There's no policy or guideline regarding the use of quotes in for named references. (Unless something's change and my info is outdated.) Sesamehoneytart is correct to write that the quotes are only needed if there is a space in the name of a named reference but it's not wrong to use quotes when there are no spaces; so if you make edits only to remove the quotes, you may end up clashing with somebody who prefers them. That said, I agree that the unnecessary quotes are ugly and make reading the source harder. I copyedit a lot of references and I tend to remove unnecessary quotes if doing a bunch of other cleanup but it's kind of a gray area. This is usually fine if the article was in an inconsistent state regarding the quotes, but if you come across somebody who really prefers them and the article was initially always using quotes, it may be an issue. Avoiding redirects should usually not be done[edit]

Hi, ThatSpiderByte. Cool name! I too was editing spider articles and I noticed this edit where you avoided a redirect. Please see WP:DONOTFIXIT. This type of edit should not usually be done for various reasons explained at the linik. That said, there are exceptions to every rule, so there's also WP:DOFIXIT, but in those cases you should be very clear why you are avoiding the redirect in the edit summary. Since this change doesn't seem to qualify as an exceptional case, I'd thought I'd give you a heads up on this redirect guideline that trips up almost everybody at some point, especially intermediate experience editors. Jason Quinn (talk) 00:38, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ah thanks for letting me know, I'll keep that in mind in future! - ThatSpiderByte (talk) 06:43, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

September 2022[edit]

Information icon Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. Rlin8 (··📧) 21:31, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ah thanks, I've been trying to use them more often but it's still not a habit. I appreciate the pointer! - ThatSpiderByte (talk) 21:40, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Velvet Spider Eye Diagram[edit]

Hello, I ask for your help to make an eye diagram for the Velvet spider family, as it's a pretty esscential way to identify them. And as of yet I do not have the technical skills to understand how it works. Oh, and by the way thanks for the barnstarn. Thanks, User:MaskedLynx 🕷️ 02:23, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've got some free time today so I'll start working on it ^-^ - ThatSpiderByte 🕷️ 11:24, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've finished the first one for the genus Adonea, gonna work on a few other genera in the family, but I just wanted to double check that one's accurate? - ThatSpiderByte 🕷️ 16:46, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it seems to be. Thanks, User:MaskedLynx 🕷️ 17:08, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Though the entire family has similar eye formatting, I mainly wanted it to add to the family page. Thanks a lot User:MaskedLynx 🕷️ 17:12, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
