Edit summaries[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → check Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks!

Variants of English[edit]

Please don't "correct" spelling and grammar without checking to see which variant of English applies as per WP:ENGVAR.There are two methods. One is check the article at the top to see if a variant of English is mentioned there. The second is common sense. If an article has a strong connection to a particular country, then that variation of English applies. In the case of Dunrobin, Queensland, it is both tagged at the top of the article as requiring Australian English, but, even if that were not present, the first sentence in the article states it is about an Australian place so obviously a strong connection to that country and its variant of English would apply even if not tagged. If you aren't familiar with that variant of English, it may be best not to correct such articles. Kerry (talk) 01:07, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

June 2021[edit]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Hi, you are making many edits stating you are removing overlinks. However, you do not seem to be checking carefully, as you are removing sole links to many articles when the keyword is just the name of a country (e.g. China) but the article is some aspect of that country (e.g. industry in China) - it does not follow that that is an overlink; nor does it fall foul of the rule that major country names do not need to be linked. Please take more care. Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:50, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please respect the English language variation as previously requested[edit]

Do not correct Australian article's spellings with American spelling. 07:55, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:58, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Discretionary sanctions notice[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in abortion. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

RfCs[edit]

In the future, I encourage you to discuss things individually more instead of submitting to an RfC. It can even take months before the other side is willing to compromise. If you want to know why, follow the links at User:Epiphyllumlover/ACE_2021. In retrospect, asking this question seems to have been a good idea because it seems like now I get less trouble.--Epiphyllumlover (talk) 19:32, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Use of Wikis as references[edit]

In this edit, you used military-history.fandom's wiki as as reference. I reverted the change as the source you added is in no way a reliable source. Wikis are rarely reliable, and in this case the page in question is a copy of our page anyway, so we would be using our page to source facts on our page.Nigel Ish (talk) 17:27, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nigel Ish Thanks for letting me know I will be more careful in the future. Tepkunset (talk) 16:03, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
