not trying to vandalize

Hi Tan , I guess this is a liitle more difficult than I knew, I am new here and unfamilliar with the rules etc. I have no intention of Vandalizing wiki. I saw several mentions of the Band STP on other pages. And being familliar with the boston hardcore scene in the 80's was suprised that there was no reference on the STP page. I don't have anything against you. Seriously. You aren't just deleting the words, you are changing lots of things and really having ownership problems. Instead of discussing things, you delete my questions on your talk page. Instead of discussing the changing of "Continental Army" to "United States" in the belligerents section, which I totally dont understand (why a link to the current US is better than one to the Continental Army is baffling to me), you just go ahead and do it. Call it a surrender if you wish, but I have no desire to carry out a long, boring and ultimately pointless bashing session. I have, out of the goodness of myself in redemption, put aside our differences, and edited the articles ahead up till the Battle of Bound Brook in this current campaign series, to Continental Army, Militia forces and British Army / Hessian Army where necessary. Since this is your project as such, I'll leave the in-depth details down to yourself. Also, is it okay to have a link such as this United States, it does link back to the Continental Army. Joee Guilas

Firstly, it was tagged as speedy, which I removed. Secondly, the article claims the subject to be a TV personality, a writer, a businessman and a model. It sounnded unlikely to me so I removed the speedy tag, since there was a claim to notability and PRODded as I suspected a hoax. Since you removed the PROD tag, the system worked as it should. Perhaps if sources were cited, the article would not have been tagged for speedy or PRODedin the first place. -- Mattinbgn\^talk 04:51, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Comment on ANI

Regarding this comment on the metal discussion on ANI:

I really don't understand why you feel compelled to label this discussion as wikidrama and I don't think it was constructive.

I didn't take this to ANI to be dramatic. I had issued two warnings over the past month and a half and discussed on User talk: Riverpeopleinvasion, User talk:ElisaEXPLOSiON and my talk page before coming to ANI. Rather than being dramatic, I went to ANI seeking guidance/consensus from more experienced admins.

Frankly, I didn't come to Wikipedia to explain to 15 year old kids why suggesting strangers get sodomized with metal is inappropriate. If the admins feel that suggesting such is fine, so be it. I strongly disagree, but we'll leave it there. This place is built on consensus, and this certainly isn't the first thing about Wikipedia I disagree with.

I'm a fairly new admin, and as was noted earlier this week, I have made at least one mistake. You seem to feel bringing my interpretation of common decency to ANI was my second: something else I disagree with.

Without making my talk page WikiDrama, my point was that you probably could have taken care of this yourself, with a few messages on some talk pages, or just have been bold and removed it yourself. AN/ANI has been full of people complaining about WP:CIVIL lately and I feel that if people would either a) have thicker skin and let some things roll off their back, or b) take care of it themselves, we could concentrate on real issues to make Wikipedia a more robust encyclopedia. I didn't (and don't) have any sort of personal problem with you, and although I meant no actual disrespect, I did mean to say that I thought your post was frivolous. Take it as you will; if you don't think you did anything wrong, then that's fine. My goal here isn't to convince you. Installment sale contract article

This is a misnomer. Installment sales are not anything unusual, although maybe only in the USA. I changed it to a speedy, as that is all that is required, not a discussioin about whether a bad name should be deleted or kept. Articles aren't usually called things like Rolling Stones Article, just Rolling Stones, and there is a tag ready made to deal directly with that issue, improper titles. {{db-redirmisnomer}} . --Blechnic (talk) 04:41, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

There was material in the article, however, and typically we can't just delete articles that don't meet the CSD criteria. Also, I appreciate your diligence, but if you review my user page or contributions, I am aware of the conventions of article naming. I have no real opinion on it, either. Still, it seems a lot of time is spent spinning wheels at AfD, when things should just be taken care of. Most of the stuff seems to need discussion, but this one was so obviously just someone getting the name wrong it seemed faster. However, I will, in the future, look at the content and remember to at least put it on the other article's talk page--which I will do with this one now, in case it was valuable. Actually, this is kinda wierd. The older version of the website stated that Berrian was born in Spain - Check out the lower part of his old NFLAPA profile [3]. Battle of Harlem Heights

We didn't really ask your opinion at the end, but what is your view on the resolution that came about? Also, Trip and I are again having a clash at the Battle of Princeton which I have gotten protected for a few days. I would appreciate your input for either article. Well, I decided I needed to let it go for a few days. Stating opinions here is hard without violating WP:CIVIL; I don't have a whole lot of respect for Trip's method or motivations. I'm going to work on one article at a time - for the time being, Landing at Kip's Bay. Looking at his talk page and interaction with other editors, he clearly isn't an asset to the MilHist wikiproject. Just stay focused on policy, especially WP:V - and don't let him push you around by calling your four historian references "bullshit" while relying totally on his britishbattles.com. Semicolons

Regarding your reversion to Monica of Hippo:

I believe my changes to have been mostly correct according to semicolon (English usage, point 2). I'll happily agree that the last one should have been left out, though; my default is to always use the serial comma, but I don't see any authorities supporting the proper existence of a 'serial semicolon'. Very confusing here. You took a list of commas and changed them to semicolons. I reverted it, and notified you that it was grammatically incorrect. You state here that you don't see any "authorities supporting the proper existence of a 'serial semicolon'", which really supports my position. My point would probably have been clearer if I'd linked serial comma and/or called them "Oxford comma"/"Oxford semicolon" since it's not obvious that I was referring to the question of whether there should be a semicolon before the "and" at the end of the list, not whether semicolons were OK in the list at all. final warning query

Hi there... It's a judgment call, but I added the final warning due to the long history this school IP address has of vandalism. If you look at the history, each time a block expires the vandalism returns and it's blocked again. I often add a final warning ASAP so the next time vandalism comes from this address it can be blocked. IMHO, the quicker these kinds of IPs are re-blocked the better. Note that I'm generally am a big believer in WP:AGF even for anonymous users, but in the case of known long time serial offenders they don't deserve that assumption. --Dfred (talk) 16:26, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

If there is, I haven't found it or been pointed out to it. I don't think what you did was horribly wrong - my issue was that I had already reverted and warned, and you sort of "double warned" the user. Was I not already involved, you could have been justified in your warning. Really, it's no big deal - everyone is going to have their own style. I like to use a slightly friendlier approach, but there are certainly times when AGF is frankly foolish. No need to be blind to obvious vandalism. Tan | 39 17:13, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

There is usually a shorter leash for school IP's that have a history of vandalism. I have no problem with his jumping to a final warning with a school. Admins will generally not block new account creation from these IP's, but will want to block them ASAP when problems arise. Admins are also generally more prone to block a school IP for a little longer than a generic IP.Balloonman (talk) 06:06, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

It is important & that is why I felt It wasn't deemed to be deleted but archieved for others to refer back to.)

This has been pretty well explained on your talk page by myself and another editor. It wasn't inappropriate to "have in archive"; the issue was you created an actual mainspace article for your talk page archive, which isn't the way this works. No one is arguing in the 500Mb camp anymore, and I think when people see that that would mean two updates per year, they'd agree that an update every month or so would be far more reasonable.
