Help me![edit]

Please help me with...

I submitted an article on JOHN ELLIOTT TAPPAN for review and no one has responded with comments or questions or approved it for publishing. Please advise how to proceed. Thanks. TAPPANHEHER (talk) 23:46, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You have not submitted Draft:John Elliott Tappan for review, so people were waiting for you to do more to the draft.
As it stands, the draft needs more sources, properly turned into footnotes. You have quite a bit more work to do before this draft should be submitted. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 01:50, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
HI thanks it is very unclear to me how to submit for review, this process is extremely confusing. Further main source is a biography of the subject published by Palgrave/St Martin's Press in New York in 2007, which was extremely well researched. I have provided this foot note on several instances. Further other sources are other wikipedia pages about the companies the subject founded and a product he created. I will add more footnotes to the same source. 87.121.72.20 (talk) 05:12, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi I just added more footnotes and submitted the article for review, and updated the source info. Thanks! 87.121.72.20 (talk) 05:29, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. It looks like the problem you had with Draft:John Elliott Tappan was that there's no Articles for Creation template at the top of the draft, and so there was no button for you to click at the top to request a review.
So you went ahead and in good faith created an improved draft at User:TAPPANHEHER/sandbox, then moved it to John Elliott Tappan in main article space, with a request for review in your edit summary. I've cleaned that version up a bit, but it's still rather short on references. For example, you reference a certain book for all but one of the references cited, but don't give the page number in the citations. I'm happy to help with adding page numbers to the citations if you like: it's easier than you'd think (once you've found the page numbers, that is!).
It might be a good idea if we move that to draft, and submit it for review. @Jmcgnh: what are your thoughts? Wikishovel (talk) 06:42, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks yes that makes sense, I couldn't find any place to request a review, and in all my googling on how to do this, none ever mentioned the Articles of Creation template. In any event I will gather all of the pages number in the references and will post them shortly, and will be in touch when I'm ready. Thanks! 87.121.72.20 (talk) 07:37, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As you can see from the post below, I've moved the article to draft as discussed. Take as long as you like, and please feel free to ping me if you have any questions about references etc. By the way, you seem to be logged out: please log back in, thanks. Hi I have just added all pages numbers for citations and references, and have submitted the revised for review. Thanks! 87.121.72.20 (talk) 03:02, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

John Elliott Tappan moved to draftspace[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to John Elliott Tappan. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because followup from the discussion at User talk:TAPPANHEHER. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Wikishovel (talk) 08:01, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello this articles was an update version of the exact one in the Articles of Creation. A reviewer asked for the page numbers in the referencesm which I provided in this version. I will try to update the version in the Articles of Creation. This process is really unnecessarily complicated. TAPPANHEHER (talk) 05:08, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello TAPPANHEHER, I've redirected Draft:John Elliott Tappan to the newer Draft:John Elliott Tappan (second draft), at which more work has been done, and to avoid similar confusion during reviews. Hope that helps with this. Wikishovel (talk) 08:58, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, TAPPANHEHER. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page John Elliott Tappan, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. being a former employee of the company he founded and sharing the name of the author of a book about him means you have a clear conflict of interest Theroadislong (talk) 14:55, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello understood how do I state or confirm that I have no conflict of interest with the subject of the article, and that I am most certainly not being paid to contribute? TAPPANHEHER (talk) 15:51, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you could explain how you came to choose your user name then? And as a former employee of the company he founded you do absolutely have a conflict of interest which you need to properly disclose on your user pageTheroadislong (talk) 15:55, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure the name is in honor of the subject who I admire. Why is a former employee a conflict? This is a historical persona who is deceased, and the company IDS was sold. There is no conflict. Does a fan of a rock star writing an entry have a conflict of interest? That's ridiculous. Please refer me to the Wikipedia legal dept so I can continue this conversation with an attorney, not another user who is making unfounded assumptions. TAPPANHEHER (talk) 13:59, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Heher is the name of the author of the book you used as a source and please don't make legal threats they tend to not end well. Theroadislong (talk) 14:02, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am also not the author of the book and my merely asking for legal advice on this is definitely not a threat, so calm down. Since you seem to be unwilling to accept the possibility that I do not have a conflict of interest, I specifically asked you to refer me to someone who can explain this determination further or refer me to someone who can do so in legal terms and what the process is. I would like a third party involved since you accused me of threatening you, you have now created a conflict and yourself have a conflict of interest regarding this determination. TAPPANHEHER (talk) 15:01, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can ask at The Teahouse, there is a link above or Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard. Your username is a conflation of the name of the person you have created an article about (TAPPAN) and the name of an author (HEHER) whose work you have referenced, so it is perfectly acceptable to question whether you have a conflict of interest. Theroadislong (talk) 15:38, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome![edit]

Hello, TAPPANHEHER, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date.
