Dear Editor, Thank you very much for the fantastic CleaUp work at Holy Cross School, Salem. I work in this school since 1996. I found few contents were removed, I feel , those contents are essential to give a clear picture about the school. Thiagupillai, you're welcome. Yes, I've had to do some rephrasing, removing the unnecessary overuse of headings and text that was not needed, especially the promotional text. This is an encyclopedia and everything has to be written from a neutral point of view and sourced with reliable sources. The major problem with this article is that it is completely unsourced. If you are interested in developing this article, I would ask you to have a read of the school article guidelines. As you have mentioned you work in this school is a bit of a problem and means you have a conflict of interest. You'll need to disclose this and you won't be able to edit this article directly, but propose any changes on the article talk page instead. Hope this helps (pinging John from Idegon for assistance). Edit summary messages

Please stop leaving me messages via edit summaries. I choose what I want to to work on and if I find an incorrect infobox I will convert it in the matter that I choose. I am making incremental improvements to articles. If you think they need further improvements then go right ahead and make them. But I don't care about leaving template parameters that aren't applicable. There must be tens or hundreds of thousands of them throughout WP as parameters are renamed or deprecated. MB, the last time I left you a message via edit summary was on 25 January 2019 of the same infobox conversion issue.. "I don't care about leaving template parameters that aren't applicable" - no, that doesn't help at all. Simply changing Infobox school to Infobox school district doesn't help, those parameters that are left behind are only supported in Infobox school, if someone fills that in, it'll flag up as an unsupported parameter (the one I just left a message on is pretty much an exception as that one had hardly many parameters, just the basic name, image etc. that are supported in both, only latin_name and campus was unsupported here. But here's a good example - make sure you click on edit too) "There must be tens or hundreds of thousands of them throughout WP as parameters are renamed or deprecated" - how is this relevant? The only accurate way to edit an infobox is to utilize the template documentation to see what the current parameters are (although there are many times when the documentation isn't accurate) and to looks for errors with PREVIEW and read the rendered article to see the the edit had the desired affect. No editor should rely on whatever blank parameters happen to be around. That is my point, parameters are renamed and deprecated all the time, any valid "blank" parameter could become invalid tomorrow. If an editor happens to put a value in for an invalid "blank" parameter, they should see an error message in PREVIEW mode. If they save their change without a preview, they should notice the field is not displaying in the infobox. If they don't notice that either, then there is no harm - their edit has just had no effect. The article is added to Category:Pages using infobox school with unsupported parameters and someone will come along and fix it. It's no big deal. MB 00:19, 23 March 2019 (UTC)

OSM maps and Holy Orders in Richmond

This is not an issue to die for, but I disagree. I don't like push pin maps as you really have to be familiar with the area before they give you any information. I do like OSM maps as they let you be very precise or suitably vague. And they work. I often ask myself who is the target reader- and think of 17 year students I have taught, doing project work. These were often Panjabi speakers with English as a second language - If they were doing some humanities work on the Salesians- they could arrive here. The OSM lets them zoom out to see its position in that part of San Francisco, and zoom in to see the extent of the grounds. If the map goes- they lose all those opportunities.

Still we haven't a clue what the school teaches. I would expect to see, a line (this is supposition). The high school follows the state approved curriculum validated by the XOX Board, which means student in year seven will be doing Integrated Humanities, English, Maths and a STEM course. In year X when they transfer from the Junior High section to the senior school they will be doing core subjects, directed by the XOXOX board and seven options selected from a list that includes these AP subjects. I can't write it myself because I have never had contact with system, but that shows why the need is so great.ClemRutter (talk) 21:14, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi ClemRutter, the Infobox school template still requires cleanup but once this is done, I'm hoping to get mapframe implemented like it was done for some infoboxes such as Infobox building and Infobox power station. If you look at how it's being used in these infoboxes you can see how well it works - outline, icon, no manual sizing etc. That's why I said "Maybe use pushpin map for now?" however mapframe has been added manually now which is ok, but it'll be better when it's implemented. Mapframe had passed me by- so that is the future then. So ideally we will have a school infobox parameter

which will be {{{if tested- and will be able to carry a list of other mapframe parameters.
Two thoughts
Transition
better to have an OSM map module and then use a bot later to write over when map module works than wait for the transition before proving the data. Comme j'ai dit.
Niggles
from a cursory glance at the the data. Look at St John Fisher Catholic School to see an example of a school that has two sites and the map centre is slightly off-set from the principal site so viewers can place it with reference to the river and the rail station. I don't see a method to add the two sites and map offset has been deprecated. Many schools have detached playing fields. Perhaps we set up the template so that if an OSM module is detected, it uses the image 4 space, and overides the mapframe. But there again wikidata must be able to cope with two instances of P625 coords, can all be coded in.
I dont like the over loud marker- we must default to something more discrete. From the Kartographer icons I see that there is a symbol for college and for school- they are terrible- the one for school is disrespectful to the teacher and shows a failure of discipline and the one for college shows an item of headwear that is culture specific- and belongs in the dressing up clothes box. We need something else for high schools and lycee, Gymnasiums etc

Rangasyd What "others' edits"? Why have you posted this here, discussion should be on the talk page. I've reverted you twice on Aquinas and you've reverted me twice on Liverpool. Liverpool one: When I made my first edit, you then partially reverted the edit with "restore some edits in good faith; many removed without discussion/consensus". I clearly mentioned in the edit summary alongside other changes that I had removed academics as it was unsourced and the table of results which is not needed. You also added an unsourced curriculum section. I then reverted this which again I have said we don't need a table of academic results and you have restored unnecessary parameters. Which you then reverted with "restore original edits... Claim that remove unnecessary parameters, yet add more, makes no sense." I said you restored... For example: additional pushpin_map parameters, logo and image_size, grades and grades_label - the years parameter should be used and feeder schools which is unsourced. Can see you have now hidden results. The concern regarding the intro, I had simplified it removing unnecessary text and some which is already mentioned in infobox, which you restored. I had also sourced enrolment and teaching staff to My School which is what should be used and provides stats about schools in Australia. Franklin Academy (NC)

This edit was reverted by another editor and then you removed most of the info from the new reverted page. Can we at least have the info cited by secondary sources in my edit? Hi Zachpw, please see the edit summary provided by John. Most of the references you added are to the school's website and this text for example "was founded by Robert L. Luddy in 1998 as one of North Carolina‘s 100 charter schools." is not even stated in the reference, instead Luddy is mentioned under Board Chair for Gate City Charter Academy with 1998 being next to School Effective Date for Franklin Academy? What I removed was completely unsourced and History had a reference to "1" which doesn't mean anything. Steven (Editor) (talk) 18:56, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

Multi-academy trusts

The new page Leigh Academy Rainham was inspired, (after a long day) by neighbour who presented me with a planning flyer inviting comment on the development. I already had Leigh Academies Trust open as I was considering how we should document multi-academy trusts. Twenty-three schools of which I knew five of them intimately. Though it is huge, it is relative calm in comparison with the problems caused is fairly documenting Northern Education Trust. See the conversation I am having with Tside90 on Talk:Northern Education Trust.

I understand it is a primary source, however, in this case, I think it's appropriate. I know it's a minor detail, but to me, I believe it makes more sense to have 'Guernsey' ahead of the postcode. What do you think? Formulaonewiki 14:23, 25 October 2019 (UTC)

Laurel School History

Thank you for your work to bring the Laurel School page into compliance with Wikipedia standards. I wish to replace the History section on Laurel School with the following. If the rewrite is acceptable, how can I go about clearing the copyright concern and posting it instead of what is currently blocked?

In 1896, Jennie Warren Prentiss founded Miss Prentiss’s Home School in Cleveland, Ohio In 1904, Headmistress Sarah E. Lyman built Laurel Institute at 10001 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, complete with gymnasium, Chapel and elementary school classrooms. In 1927, Headmistress Mrs. Lyman moved the school to Shaker Heights. In 1931, Headmistress Edna F. Lake added modern and classical languages (Spanish, German, French, Latin and Greek) to the curriculum; Senior Speeches became a graduation requirement. In 1962, under Headmaster Daniel O. S. Jennings, the school’s dormitory was closed, science labs were improved and the school committed to a college preparatory curriculum. The Laurel School Parents’ Association was begun under his headship. In 1977, Headmistress Barbara R. Barnes increased instruction on girls’ development for faculty. A partnership with Kenyon College was established to offer college credit courses to students. In 1984, Headmistress Leah S. Rhys initiated the 5-year Laurel/Harvard study on girls’ development with Carol Gilligan, resulting in Gilligan’s Meeting at the Crossroads: Women's Psychology and Girls' Development. Rhys also established the school’s preschool program called the Early Childhood Center. In 1992, under Headmistress Helen R. Marter, the school purchased 140 acres of wooded property with ponds and streams in Geauga County, then known as the Fairmount Campus. The campus became home to athletic fields, tennis courts, softball diamonds and a track, as well as an outdoor education curriculum. In 2004, Headmistress Ann V. Klotz became Laurel's 10th Head of School. She founded Laurel’s Center for Research on Girls (LCRG). Construction at the Butler Campus included the Magic Tree House, the Conway Pavilion, the Butler Center for Fitness and Wellness and the Outdoor Pre-Primary Yurt. Experiential learning was expanded at Butler and 10 more acres were acquired to increase the total acreage of the Butler Campus to 150. BKedits, there are a few issues here. You can't do anything regarding the copyright notice until the issue is dealt with. You can do a rewrite by going to the copyright notice and you will see there is a section titled "Otherwise, you may write a new article without copyright-infringing material. Click "Show" to read where and how" which will then be reviewed by an admin/clerk. Another issue is that your user page says you are the employee/website manager for the school, that means you have a conflict of interest, so you can't edit the article directly, but propose changes on the article talk page instead. Anything added to Wikipedia needs to be cited to reliable secondary sources and written from a neutral point of view. Steven (Editor), I absolutely understand the reason for the COI reprimand. In the future, I will use Laurel School's talk page to request edits of the Wikipedia community.
Should I be concerned that the *entire* article about Laurel School will be removed or just the History section? I hope it's the latter and I will use Laurel School's talk page to recommend historic milestones for the school.
Being completely transparent, I was following the lead of three local peer schools of similar stature (Hathaway Brown School, Hawken School and University School). Looking more closely at their articles, they all appear to have quite a bit of primary-sourced information throughout. [scratches head] --BKedits (talk) 21:09, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
BKedits, that's good to hear - please ensure that you have read the COI link as that has further information and how you can request edits on the talk page. It will just be the history section as that is the only area of the copyright violation. I see, that's not a good idea, unfortunately there are many school articles on here with issues such as unsourced content, promo, primary sourced and so on. The task of getting through these is monumental but they are being cleaned up (some face deletion). Upon looking at those articles you provided, the Hathaway Brown School for example is terrible as evident in the multiple issues tag at the top - there is a lot of unsourced and promo content which will be removed. The University School one is not that bad as it has secondary sources and some of the content cited to the school's website is fine, such as the house system and headmaster. As for the primary source concern, please see the primary source link above.
We do have a school article guidelines page which is what should be followed, please take a look at this if you wish to expand on this school (taking into account of what I've mentioned above). An examples of what is considered to be one of the best school articles on Wikipedia is Amador Valley High School which is a featured article. You can see the assessment ratings we have for schools here. Please ensure that when you are replying on another user's talk page, there is no need to ping by adding {{U|NAME}} as they are notified automatically, replies are indented which can be done by adding a colon at the beginning which increases by one (see above to see how its done when you reply below), and that you sign your replies at the end by typing four tildes, like this: ~~~~ Steven (Editor) (talk) 21:21, 28 October 2019 (UTC)

Checking out creators

Hi Kudpung, I know, the reason I pinged the creator there is so I didn't have to explain my thoughts on the articles again and thus can see your comment regarding primary schools in general. I can add a note and direct the creator to their talk page instead? As it was only created yesterday it is still too early but I just want to see what the creator thinks and if they will be expanding on it. Coordinator

Your work on school articles is very important. You appear to have an excellent grasp of WP:WPSCH/AG. I am suggesting here that you may wish to take on a little bit of extra work as an additional WP:WPSCH coordinator. We would need the assent of course of ClemRutter and Tedder, and emeritus coord John from Idegon (who has been a stalwart of our schools project and who I very much hope will return as a coord). You would need to subscribe to AlertBot and have as many school articles as possible on your watchlist. Also you would need some additional user rights, namely WP:Rollback which is frequently required for school vandalism, and WP:NPR after having read and fully digested WP:NPP, and I can accord you the use of these tools. There are also some general tasks at WPSCH which have needed doing for a long time but which among my other activities on Wikipedia I have not had much time to update for several years. Hi Beginning, you're welcome and that's ok, glad to help. About spending way too much of your day researching and working on that page, ah tell me about it, I look at the clock/phone/corner of my laptop and think "what happened to the time, I've been here almost all day, not good, oh dear" haha, but yeah a lot of effort has to be put in to ensure the content we add meets the policies and guidelines of Wikipedia, which is good because it helps us all in developing a good encyclopedia (minus the time-consuming part).
Anyway, I've done a brief scan of your additions but not a thorough look, but if you could check your additions meet the school article guidelines, which describes how the content of school articles should be organized, with the aim of providing general guidance to editors, that would be really good. This is also the best place to follow if you're interested in expanding this article more. Who knows, you could get this school to a good article/FA status or a higher rating on the assessment scale. Rollback granted

Hi Steven (Editor). After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.

Hi Kudpung, thanks for granting me the user right above. I've added it to my watchlist but I have been monitoring this and oh I know, tell me about it haha — there is a particular editor who is on a deletion spree at the moment, funnily enough they recently created a new school stub and I'd left a message on talk about this but I guess not interested. Ok there are some articles that should be deleted, but the majority shouldn't. We know there are a lot of very not-so-good (some are awful) stubby school articles, most of the articles seem be of those in Asia/Africa, which seem to lack reliable online sources (most having directory mentions only). I guess it can be expected with some being developing countries that would probably be more prevalent in offline news.
So far, we redirect primary/elementary/middle schools to their district/locality because they are usually deemed nn, which is good because school names are search terms, so rather than being taken to Wikipedia's results page, they are at least being taken somewhere and can potentially act as a barrier to its creation. Also, if sources do become available, redirects can simply be converted. For that reason, I'm thinking if it would be a good idea to start extending the redirecting to the problematic high schools? Hi Ericfood, don't worry about it, it's all good. With the article now being in the draftspace, you can work on it with minimal disruption. I see, the reason I changed it to 9–12 was because this is shown on NCES but I had a look at this again, even though it does say 9–12, I looked under "Enrollment Characteristics" and they don't actually have anyone in that grade. It's probably just how NCES reports it, so you are right. As high schools are deemed notable it's likely your one will be accepted, but you need to make sure you have read the draftspace move notice on your talk page, where there is also a link to the school article guidelines that will help you in expanding this article. Brooklyn International High School

I just got this message. When I started the article I forgot to put it in my sandbox. I went live with it with just a few references. I have been working on this article since about 4 o'clock today and have added more references. I have found more information and learned more about the school. The school appears in two books. I ordered both of the books today on Amazon. I found YouTube clips where the Brooklyn International High School activities have been documented by mainstream news channels.

Hi Adjoajo, it's ok, as the article is now in the draftspace could you please work on this rather than the username subpage that you just created after? As you can see from the draft notice at the top, it says "There are no deadlines as long as you are actively improving the submission. Drafts not being improved may be deleted after six months." — so you have nothing to worry about. This draft notice also has information about creating articles on Wikipedia, and the draft notice I have posted on your talk page has information as to why it was moved to draftspace, what you need to ensure there is, and a link to the school article guidelines — please use these guidelines to help you write the school article, which contains information such as what you should and shouldn't include along with policy links.
Books are good whereas YouTube can be problematic; see WP:VIDEOREF for more information. When you start a new discussion on a talk page, please add a new section which can be done easily by clicking on the "New section" button at the top. When replying to a comment, it should be indented using one or more initial colons (like this comment for example); see WP:THREAD on how to do this. Schools are not written about much in mainstream media until there is an incident. I am learning about the 90s school reform movement that took place in NYC to improve educational system especially for non English speaking Immigrants. In fact schools like the Brooklyn International High School are similar in philosophy and practice as the open access to knowledge movement. I have also learned that there was a movement in the 90s to establish schools that work vs traditional schools that don't. I spent about six hours yesterday reading and writing to get to know more about the alternative school movement in NYC. I try to write articles in areas that get little attention.

You need to indent your replies (see above). There are schools that have been written about in mainstream media for other things not just if there is an incident. Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys

Good work on your major and effective cleanup of that article earlier, it definitely needed it. Just thought I'd drop you a note about a bizarre quirk of it - you removed the motto "Meliora sequamur" due to a lack of sourcing and (correctly) that it Google translates as to catch malaria. I initially giggled and assumed you'd caught some sneaky school vandalism, but it turns out that, at least for the girls' branch of the same school, it actually is the motto. It seems from a quick bit of research that "Meliora sequamur" is the motto of a few schools, apparently a direct quote from Virgil's Aeneid meaning "move on to better things". But, it really does also Google translate as "to catch malaria", and I'm not sure why. I haven't re-added the motto to the article, there does indeed not seem to be a direct demonstration on the boys' school's website so it's not sourceable, but I thought I'd share the strange discovery! Hi Mazca, thank you and I've just done the second cleanup as I ran out of time on the first one. Me too and yeah I was a bit confused by that, also in the article under the History section there is an image of the school's coat of arms which has that motto; the file summary doesn't help much, it says it's for the two schools with the source as "own work". I too thought it could have been vandalism which school articles on here are super prone to; I was thinking to myself "come on, surely that can't be the school's motto, what kind of school would have that as its motto" while scratching my head. Meliora → malaria?? — same number of characters, similar letters, the more I say these two together it starts to sound the same, maybe I have solved the problem haha. Haha no problem Ottoump — NCES is the national provider of statistics for both public and private schools in the US which is what we use to source enrollent, teaching staff and ratio data (the same approach is applied to schools in other countries). All US schools should have this sourced with the dedicated us_nces_school_id parameter added and filled in using the respective NCES School ID templates. For the above school, only enrollment is available at the moment which is why I only added this, and the other two fields are shown as N/A which I'm not sure why. But it may be available in the next NCES update so these can be added to the article later. Steven (Editor) What is your objection to using the far more efficient map-frame and why are you pushing the the tired old pushpin. I have found three major objections to pushpins and noone has ever explained why we are keeping them except for nostalgia.

  1. Today, I dropped back into Sacred Heart and wanted to click onm the map, so I could expand out and check the neighbourhood of the campus- stymied! Pushpins dont. What a time waster!
  2. They occupy a huge amount of infobox realestate- ( I haven't checked this on a mobile- but can imagine) I have checked this with multiple UK articles- where all this space is lost just so you can see that an academy is in a county- which with confusion between ceremonial and administrative counties is less than useless. Look at St Olave's Grammar School you cant even see that it is in Orpington or the Kent border. Unlike with map frame, there is no way to improve the image- and no way a coordinator can step in and fix it.
  3. I can find no way that I can explain to myself or a group of newbies how you procede from GIAS information to a pushpin. I can easily say- copy in this chunk of code from a similar school,m change the coords and you have a map. I can also say- well if it has multiple campuses there is an easy way to extend it we can show you later.

This is important as it is not part of the co-ordinators role to actual write the article for the new, enthusiastic, competent new user. That is too close to WP:OWN. Right or wrong, I don't find it helpful if a co-ordinator contradicts advice another co-ordinator had given. This is not conducive to a good working relationship. When the article has reached a B standard ways to improve it can be discussed on the talk page, thus demonstrating good practice. Too much nitpicking at this stage just confuses.

I don't have access to Newspaper.com, someone else had clipped the one I added above, I just came to that page by searching for the article on Google. Also, I forgot to add to the response above, but you said about wanting to see what I think and how to proceed, I'd be happy to help — the good thing about the school article guidelines is that it tells you what content would be required for a school article, but it's important to note that not all the sections can be applied to all schools, such as some schools may not have any notable alumni and therefore the section is omitted. Totally agree about the newspaper.com references. Is the MoS protocol to Wikilink every referenced instance of Newspaper.com, or just the first one in the article or section? Ottoump, per MOS:DUPLINK it says "Citations stand alone in their usage, so there is no problem with repeating the same link in many citations within an article" but I usually only link it once but yeah should be no problem. Good call re the Valpo Bowl table, although it kills me to say it. I lifted it from a Stanford-Berkeley rivalry article, but (to your point), they have a lot more years to catalog. And all the spacing was ugly. A separate question: do you think I should do a named reference list at the end of the article to get rid of all the citation Wikitext (except for the named reference call) cluttering up the copy? Ottoump, I see, yeah and the other problem with that table was the coding and templates was huge, so it looked like a huge blob of mixed text which could be confusing for someone else that may want to edit that table. Hi Ottoump, yeah MDY date format is the common usage for US, but having looked at the article, there is a mixture but most are in the DMY format. The content you added does not follow the structure and what is required for school articles which is why I referred you to the school article guidelines. As this is your former school means you have a conflict of interest — you'll need to disclose this and you won't be able to edit this article directly, but propose any changes on the article talk page instead. You said "like to boast the successes"? No, Wikipedia is not for promoting or showcasing amongst other things — content needs to be written from a neutral point of view and sourced with reliable, independent sources. Thanks for the reply. I really did not intend to have any bias in the article and I may not have used the correct wording. Everything I wrote was objective from news articles. I did not mean to boast the information, but to instead have a decent bit of information organized onto one page for people to view and look up. Nothing was opinionated. If you sample some of the text it is factual - organized into history, curriculum, athletics, enrollment, etc. I understand the bias, however I am writing through the township's historical society, not as a resident. A lot of the information was already there so I am not sure why it was all removed. I have access to archives and historical photos, which were posted, but also removed. WebLemons34, please ensure your replies are indented which can be done by adding an extra colon at the beginning, you can see how this is done when you are replying to this comment. Even the content before your additions was also problematic. The edit summaries provide the reasons as to why the content was removed. The article is now in a clean state and I will be doing any other necessary cleanup. If you really want to work on this school, the best thing going forward would be to start fresh, you can still access your content additions from the page history but don't add this as it will be removed. Instead, start by having a read of the school article guidelines and proposing additions on the talk page. You can work on a draft for the school in your userspace if you like. The sources you mention are primary, WebLemons34. An encyclopedia is tertiary. We do not publish research, and our purpose is not to list every conceivable fact about the subject of the article. Instead, an encyclopedia article paraphrases and summarizes what reliable secondary sources have said. You can use old newspapers and they do not have to be online. (You should familiarize yourself with the various citation templates listed at Category:Citation Style 1 specific-source templates). Undo un page BT_Group

Hi, i saw your comment for the "undo" on page "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BT_Group" and you are in right but there is a big problem on the current logo on page: is not the official logo of BT. The size and the colour are different. The correct colour is RGB 85 20 180. You can see the difference between this logo and the official logo on the officiale website of BT. I have now update the logo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BT_Italia#/media/File:BT_logo_2019.png) with a official transparent version. Can you verify is now can be updated on the page "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BT_Group"?
