Speedy deletion nomination of Wheelock Family Theatre[edit]

A tag has been placed on Wheelock Family Theatre, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Hello Srdill. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Wheelock College, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

James, have you read the article? What looks like "promotional material" to you? The links to their various Web footprints? Ever look at the Sony Music Entertainment page? How many links to their affiliates are there? This is a very unique institution. For some reason no one else has created an article, but under the COI Guidelines I am trying to "follow Wikipedia policies and best practices scrupulously." I didn't get a chance to enter my details in the Talk page before it was flagged to be deleted. I am the Director of Marketing for Wheelock College and responding to a request from the marketing manager of the Wheelock Family Theatre to create a page on Wikipedia to allow more people to learn about the good work being done to help the poor, the underprivileged, and the young of Boston.

What? The whole thing from start to finish was promotional in tone and character. I am not at all surprised to read that you are a "Director of Marketing". Only a professional marketing person, who is so accustomed to marketing-speak that they have become desensitised to it, could possibly write that and honestly be unable to see that they had written in a totally promotional spirit.

Another point, too. Writing to tell us that an organisation is a good thing that does wonderful work to help the poor is writing to promote it. You may like to read Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not here to tell the world about your noble cause. Wikipedia does not exist to help anyone to promote, publicise, or market anything, no matter how noble and beneficial it is. JamesBWatson (talk) 07:20, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
