  • 1 Since the 11th century AD, who has not been allowed on the Greek Mount Athos?

Women, it is the site of a Monastery.

  • 2 Bug's Bunny's original name was what?

Ummm Happy?

  • 3 What is the Latin word for Dragon?

Draco..I thinko

  • 4 Monks designed the pretzel to look like what?

Arms folded in prayer (since they were originally made as a reward for children who said their prayers. Pretzel is derrived from Little Prize or reward).

  • 5 What is the original type of glogg made from?

Caraway seeds. It goes good with Pretzels too :>

  • 6 I'll skip the magnet question. Don't want magnets too near my computer anyways;>

I like the idea of brain teasers. Is Google cheating? ;) I think it would be cool if you made them obscure enough that Google wouldn't give away the answers.

So, I'll try the magnet question. I guess you should touch the end of bar A to the center of bar B, to form a T-shape. If it sticks, then bar A is a magnet. --Dforest 05:25, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

That's correct, but yes, I'd prefer you used your knowledge rather than an internet's... Spawn Man 05:38, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

By the way, I didn't use Google for that. Perhaps you could make it a kind of scavenger hunt in Wikipedia, not like Wikipedia:Scavenger hunt, but where you would have to solve a riddle of sorts. Ebay did the same thing some months back - [1]; the clues were deviously obscure, but it was a cool idea. Dforest 06:01, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
A couple of the questions can always be solved through WikiWorld (Pedia). Spawn Man 06:03, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Another thing, the first 5 questions are more like trivia, not really brain teasers. You might want to decide on doing one or the other. Dforest 08:54, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

I couldn't decide at first, so I just decided on calling it Brain Teasers, mainly because the questions are poking fun at your brain. Trivia, brain teasers... Whatever you like, call it that. I don't mind, really.... I'll do more original brain teasers in future to live up to the title's expectations... Thanks for actually looking & answering though, it's really fun writing questions down on my user page... I've tried them on people in real life too, & they're just as stumped on some too... Bugs Bunny's original name

The Bugs Bunny article suggests a possible similarity with Max Hare, but says that actually Bugs Bunny was unnamed until he became Bugs' Bunny (note the apostrophe), and then Bugs Bunny. If you know differently, then the article needs to be updated! KeithD (talk) 07:37, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Satin Bowerbird bower with blue objects
1 - Satin Bowerbirds (Ptilonorhynchus violaceus) preferentially collect blue objects for courtship display. So they can definitely distinguish blue. Most other birds probably can, but we've no easy way of asking them to let us know! - MPF
2 - It won't be, but just for fun . . . Heteroptera Rabbit - MPF
3 - Palms (too easy with google!) - MPF
4 - Rudyard Kipling - except that was a phantom rickshaw, not a real one . . - MPF
5 - Wine, spiced with cinnamon and sweetened with raisins - MPF
6 - Impossible to predict. A squirrel may or may not be full up after eating one acorn, and not able to start another for an unknown length of time . . . a man might be able to eat one apple in one minute, but it doesn't mean he can eat 100 apples in 100 minutes! :-) MPF 11:34, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

An Award
I award this award to Spawn Man for being an Exceptional Newcomer. He has burst out of the gates at a full run, contributing to the 'Pedia in many ways.

-In my admittedly limited experience, it is rare to see someone so new to the Pedia jump in so deep so fast. I didn't get involved in talking to other users, joining WikiProjects, or nominating anyone for anything until at least a couple of months after I joined. Keep up the good work! Trivia and other fun things

Well, I suppose it's time to try my hand at this...

1. In medievil Europe, what became known as the "neck verse"?

First verse of Psalms 51: "Have mercy on me...".

2. If a man walks due south for 4 miles & then due north 3 miles, what is the maximum distance he can be from where he started?

Assuming you're measuring approximate distance along the earth's surface, it'll be 7 miles (starting from 4 miles north of the south pole). The straight-line distance through the ground would result from the same path, but is a rather messy calculation I don't feel like doing now.

3. Inosculation is the natural form of what other word?

Innoculation?

4. Who was the father of William the Conquerer?

Robert of Normandy. Royal genealogy is a little too easy :)

5. What is the original type of glogg made from?

Three liquid ingredients, you say. Claret, brandy, and port, maybe?

6. Volcano Island belongs to which country?

I believe (I could be wrong) that there's a place in the Phillipines called "Volcano Island"; I'm sure there are others, however, so this may not be what you're thinking of.

Did I get any right? Kirill Lokshin 03:14, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

The only different answer to the above that I can think of, is that the "original" volcano is the Italian island of Vulcano - MPF 21:46, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

6. Volcano Island belongs to which country?

Japan??

Some more answers

2. What is Barbie's full name?

Barbie (alternately Barbara) Millicent Roberts.

4. It takes a motor boat 2 minutes to travel 2 km when going with the current. When the boat is going against the current, it takes 4 minutes. The current is always constant. How long would the journey take the boat to do the same journey in slack water, when there is no current at all?

160 seconds (the boat travels at 45 kph in a current of 15 kph)

6. 4,6,8,9,10,12,14,15,16. What comes next?

18 — these are composite numbers

Still no idea about the outstanding questions from yesterday though; the glogg one in particular has rather stumped me. Kirill Lokshin 12:14, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

Comic strips as literature

Hi, Spawnman! Thanks for your response to my question on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Years about the appropriate timeline article in which to list a comic strip debut. I appreciate the clarification that literature is understood in a broad sense. I think I may err on the side of caution and wait a little longer to see if there are any dissenting opinions; then I'll try moving the Dick Tracy reference into 1931 in literature and see what happens. Do we really want this?!

My dear friend and fellow Wikipedian,

A proposal has been made here which could effect the way all featured articles, and perhaps even eventually all articles, are handled in the future. While it has the well-meaning intention of addressing some real problems, if it is adapted, I fear it will actually create more problems and possibly destroy the wonderfully open and collaborative nature of the Wikipedia we all so love.

I therefore, strongly urge you to join us who OPPOSE this potentially dangerous proposal. Thank you for your time, thoughts and words.--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 08:07, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
