Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Eteethan (talk) 07:20, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Johnj1995 this is Complete Bull Shit. I just spent all that time doing that edit.
i honestly don't care about the Bio but the award citations? i have added award citations Like that before what changed? i have permission to use them as i am also a editor and Researcher. also the Citations themes are not copyrighted as they came from his Military awards file that was given to me by the National Archives.
i will be adding them back. Spartan1924 (talk) 01:15, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Johnj1995 i just re did his Biography in my own words. I have added and changed words around and added additional information to certain areas in which its not identical to anything online. I will continue to revise it as i come across additional information. Spartan1924 (talk) 03:51, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

General James Rodgers Allen[edit]

is there a reason why basically my entire edit was deleted ? it was not copyrighted and was done in my own words. it looked a lot better then the hot garbage now as it now contains wrong information.

i spent hours editing his bio last night only to find it deleted and or screwed up so bab i cant even Recognize it anymore. Spartan1924 (talk) 23:26, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm sorry that your edits keep getting reverted. We try to be really careful in biographical articles to make sure that material added is sourced. It's sometimes hard to tell what details are real. For the awards, is there SOME sort of citation that you can use? It doesn't necessarily have to be something that's online, but it would help a lot if it was documented where the info is coming from. Do you know how to use the article's history? If so, you can revert back to your last "good" version. It's not lost forever!
A couple of other things that will "signal" that you're editing seriously is to edit while you're logged in, and to use an informative edit summary. What caught my eye originally was one of the times you deleted a large chunk of text with no explanation, which is one of the most common forms of vandalism.
Please let me know if I can help in any way. Joyous! Noise! 08:17, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

November 2023[edit]

Hello, I'm Eteethan. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to Frank Borman because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Eteethan (talk) 06:29, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Eteethan Yes you Clearly mad a mistake. Its a References to Nasa Awards. it lists Frank Borman as a Recipient of The NASA Exceptional Service Medal in 1965 and The NASA Distinguished Service Medal in 1969. there's was some confusion as to what he actually received as another Wikipedia page has him listed as a Recipient of the Public Service Medal and Another Wikipedia page doesn't have him listed as a Recipient of the NASA Exceptional Service Medal. I wouldn't be adding References to the page if it didn't have Frank Borman mentioned in it. Spartan1924 (talk) 06:35, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Spartan1924: I'd recommend reading Wikipedia:Citing sources and following that procedure, instead of placing a OneDrive link in the external links section - which is not the place for references. Thanks, let me know if you have any questions! Eteethan (talk) 06:39, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eteethan There's Literally no other way to link it. it was sent to me about a hour ago by a Wikipedia admin who i have been taking with for the past hour. you said it was inappropriate. I dont think you know what that word means in this instance. please suggest to me how i can probably link the Reference in the Wikipedia page or i am going to report. Spartan1924 (talk) 06:43, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Spartan1924: This makes no sense - A, Using this file as a source would be against WP:NOR, and B, it doesn't make sense that an administrator would send you a file directly for use as a source. Which administrator sent you this? As for using this source - I would look for a reliable, published source to support your edit, as per WP:NOR. Thanks :) Eteethan (talk) 06:57, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eteethan @Hawkeye7 was the person who link it to me. Borman is listed as a Recipient of the NASA Exceptional Service Medal in 1965 and NASA The Distinguished Service Medal in 1969. the only Reason i was doing any editing is because Borman is listed as a Recipient of the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal on Wikipedia. However since he Never received the award it needs to be changed on that page. However when i tried to remove his name it wasn't there at least not in the edit page. however his name still appears in the normal page. I wish i could send you a picture of what i am looking at. Spartan1924 (talk) 07:07, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Spartan1924: Hmm, it seems based on my research he did receive the Distinguished Service Medal in 1969. See this source: [1], which is from the NASA website. Eteethan (talk) 07:14, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eteethan Nasa Has two different Distinguished Service awards.
NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal
NASA Distinguished Service Medal
Frank was listed as a Recipient of both when i reality he only received one of them and that's the actual Nasa Distinguished Service Medal not the Nasa Distinguished Public Service Medal. I just removed Bormans name from the one he didn't receive according to the PDF file on Nasa Awards
Frank Borman only Received the NASA Exceptional Service Medal and the NASA Distinguished Service Medal as far as i am aware of at the moment. Spartan1924 (talk) 07:20, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just Figured out the last part of my last Message. Frank is no longer listened as a Recipient of the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal. All there was was a exta space between his name and the next section of names. I removed that space and his name disappeared. Spartan1924 (talk) 07:14, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Spartan1924: I'm glad we were able to get to the bottom of this! Next time, before making a change like this find a reliable source supporting the edit and please note that external links are generally discouraged per Wikipedia:External links. Let me know if I can help you in the future! I'm gonna place a welcome template under this discussion with some helpful links! Eteethan (talk) 07:20, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eteethan Hopefully the 2 edits i did stay up. but just in case here's what i did. On The NASA Exceptional Service Medal Wikipedia i added Frank Borman's Named as a Notable Recipient and then mentioned what i did in the talk as well as put thag link in the talk. I then Removed Frank Borman's name from The NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal Wikipedia as he never received that award. Spartan1924 (talk) 07:25, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just changed the location of your ref on Frank Borman's page, but other than that great job! Thank you for your contributions and welcome to Wikipedia!! I am always here if you have any questions/issues, and I'm happy we were able to correct this inaccuracy together! Eteethan (talk) 08:04, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eteethan Thanks. Gald we got everything fixed like it show be. Spartan1924 (talk) 08:06, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see the confusion. I found another great source [2] which confirms this! I'd recommend adding this source to the talk page in that case, instead of the onedrive link (as this is from a primary source). I'm glad we got this sorted and thank you for your contributions :) Eteethan (talk) 07:27, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eteethan can you send me link to the new one? Spartan1924 (talk) 07:28, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Spartan1924: it is https://searchpub.nssc.nasa.gov/servlet/sm.web.Fetch/Agency_Awards_Historical_Recipient_List.pdf?rhid=1000&did=2120817&type=released Eteethan (talk) 07:34, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eteethan LOL this is the same exact thing i was trying to use the first time the only way for me to get a link was to put it in a onedrive. Spartan1924 (talk) 07:36, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Spartan1924: You are correct - however the issue is that a onedrive link is not a reliable source as it can be edited/changed; a file from the NASA website is. You can use the Cite tool while editing to reference this NASA document. Eteethan (talk) 07:38, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eteethan Maybe you can put the Link in appropriately. I dont what to mess things up again. Spartan1924 (talk) 07:42, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've attached the wikicode for a ref. This can be pasted into an article! <ref>{{Cite web |title=NASA Awards Recipient List|url=https://searchpub.nssc.nasa.gov/servlet/sm.web.Fetch/Agency_Awards_Historical_Recipient_List.pdf?rhid=1000&did=2120817&type=released|website=National Aeronautics and Space Administration}}</ref> Eteethan (talk) 07:50, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Frank Borman. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Eteethan (talk) 06:41, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
