Adopt Me?

I saw you were interested in adopting a newbie like myself. I saw you enjoy video games, so I guess we have that in common. I'm pretty much extremely new to this and a bit overwhelmed. Thanks. --Alizera 20:04, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

I guess I just would like to edit some pages and clean them up a bit initially. Just learn the basics of editting. --Alizera 20:10, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

You're right about the paragraphs; sorry about reverting that. Of course, GameSpot isn't a reputable source either. The way I see it, if anything actually happens, it'll certainly be covered by at least one newspaper, and if nothing happens, it isn't notable enough to mention. At this point, all the sources are quoting GamePolitics.com; I think we can safely wait until Wednesday and see if anything actually occurs. --Maxamegalon2000 05:28, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

JB/BooyakaDell sock puppet

Sir Fozzie, I've just added to your sockpuppet page and I've lodged a complex complaint (hope that's the right place) against BooyakaDell about the abuse of notability tags. Would appreciate your help with this. Curse of Fenric 02:24, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Have replied to your message on my talk page in the hope of keeping some of the discussions in one place - if that makes sense - Cheers Lethaniol 18:05, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/BooyakaDell

Hi SirFoz,

Hey dont worry about the unsigned comment - I did it earlier and that silly bot came along and had an edit conflict with me as I tried to sort it - sigh :):)

Right I see one major problem with the Mediation Cabal - it is manned by volunteers who currently have a backlog of 1-2weeks - I dont think we have that time - do you. I suggest we get more uses involved quicker by using Wikipedia:Requests for comment/BooyakaDell - have not started to fill in - need two users really. If you could help (am off to bed it 00:44 here) then I can complete fill in tomorrow. Hopefully then we will have some outside experienced input to help get back on track - finger crossed. Cheers Lethaniol 00:45, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Or we could take it to the next level to Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration but people are likely to get blocked if we do that - BooyakaDell and Curse - if only for editwarring and template slapping on each others page. This would certainly get the problem sorted - but I would prefer to leave as last resort. Lethaniol 01:03, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Why don't we call it Wikipedia:Requests for comment/BooyakaDell and Curse of Feneric considering Curse is the other person involved.BooyakaDell 01:08, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

I've added material, Fozzie. See what you think. Curse of Fenric 21:41, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for the little rant on the Thunder talk page but in future if you could try to follow format more closely it would be appriciated. I have cleaned up both pages and made them into a single article about the team and its members including real names and the such... for futre editing have a look at http://www.cagematch.net/ its a really useful site though like all things it isnt alway correct so other research does help -- Paulley

RfC

Hi Sir Fozzie,

I have added a fair bit to the RfC - I hope you are okay with some of the changes. Although I have changed little of the content, I did change some of your context of the first paragraph, second section away from being subjective (stating what BooyakaDell was wrong) to objective (stating that people thought that BooyakaDell was), while keeping some of the obvious actions that we have evidence for. Two of the statements I used {{{fact}}} - not because they are not true, but I dont think we have the evidence in the evidence section yet. Just need to get someone to find them.

Maybe a little more tweaking of the second section could be done, but by making it a little more objective it will give the commentators the picture and with the evidence allow them to make their own minds. Cheers Lethaniol 19:34, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Sockpuppet

I've reviewed your evidence. Some of it is compelling, but a lot of it is highly circumstancial. Try posting something on WP:ANI to see what administrators other than myself think. --Deskana talk 22:17, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Getting out of hand

Fozzie, the whole Booyaka thing is getting out of control completely. Now he's trying to attack me through a series of alleged contradictions - and frankly I'm thinking personal attack, except that it's not obvious so lodging a complaint in the relevant section wouldn't work. But meanwhile, I think we are approaching the point of Admin Arbitration. You have a better idea of the sock issue than I have - and I don't know what your plans are in that regard - but if you can grab at least a dozen similar edits between JB and Booyaka that might do it. Meanwhile - I am on the verge of leaving WP for good if this isn't resolved soon. The latest BS from Booyaka which can be found on the RFC is placing my credibility under unreasonable and ridiculous scrutiny in order to divert from his own activities. This is a good way to run editors out of WP, and it has to be stopped. Curse of Fenric 00:21, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

JB/Doodakya/whatever else

Yea it is starting to get out of hand with him.. somtimes his edits have warrent but his people skills and acceptings of things that are in order isnt so good --- Paulley

Hi SirFoz - glad to know that people are still watching my talk page:) - Thanks for your comment at the review too.
Anyway that's not why I am here, I am going to leave a brief message on Curse's talk page concerning his conduct during the whole BooyakaDell affair - which he might not like - but I need to say for closure. If you could comment there which parts you agree with or not then it might lead to it having extra weight. Cheers Lethaniol 14:08, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Request for Comment

Hi SirFozzie - I am quite happy to give you some thoughts - from what I remember you tried your best to keep the peace, but sometimes you got a bit upset. If you are happy for me to do so - I will have a better look through the debates and pick out the good bits and the bad bits where I think you could improve. Beware I can be quite critical, like I was with Curse, but I hope fair and constructive. I will do it over the next few days if that is okay. Lethaniol 22:37, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

HI SirFoz, a few more points that you may find interesting. In no way see these as criticisms but as individual observations/opinions which you may want to contemplate: (in no particular order) -
  1. Your intervention in this section, could be seen as inflammatory, as it is on my talk page, in discussion between me and my adoptee. Care needs to taken when taking an argument to people's talk pages, especially when someone is not arguing but asking for advice. It is these sort of little things that help keep issues to never settle and instead escalate.
  2. Helping me set up the RfC - gave a balance to the RfC that I think helped a lot. If I had tried to do on my own, people would have considered me biased. With some users involved, trying to set up the RfC with them would have been a nightmare - as too emotional. You did only put one side of the story though, whereas I added mostly the other side of the story (to balance) but I did add evidence against BooyakaDell as well. Respect can be gained by putting up the whole story, even if does not always serve your case. This means turning from a participant to more of a negotiator. There are always plenty of the former, but not maybe of the latter.
  3. Trying to get Curse of Fenric to calm down as you did here - was the right thing to do - and more of it was probably needed by all parties.
Actually when I started reviewing your inputs I did not know where it was going. Now I do though. The more I think and look, I see you more as a mediator in these discussions than not - the less emotional side of the argument against BooyakaDell - a bastion of reason - eh maybe! Hey I am not saying you were great at it, because sometimes you caused the situation to get more heated, but I believe your philosophy was to get the situation sorted, not just argue a stubborn POV, and you were flexible where others were not.
I think this is a skill you should work on - as it will be of great use on Wikipedia, and maybe else where. Maybe get involved in some RfC (users or articles) or when you have a bit more experience join as an Adopter for the Adopt-a-user program, or probably try other things (Cabal, XfDs etc...). Anyway I think you could be a good mediator, just need some practise. Hmmm anyway enough ramblings, seeya around Lethaniol 00:19, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Dave Willis (Wrestling Fan)

Hey Foz,

Happy Friday. Since you were in on all the booyaka mess maybe you know or learned a little bit of something about notability. What would you suggest about the Dave Wills (wrestling) article? 49erInOregon 17:39, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

That is kind of what I figured. Someone is trying to argue that on Lex Luger's page that the viral video (funny of course) where he has problems with his shirt and Billy whatshisname should be listed for the sole reason that other internet memes have wikipedia pages. He mentioned the Dave Wills page and I can see no reason for Wills having an entry. I'm sure there are tons of entries just like this that I shouldn't even bother about. 49erInOregon 20:19, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

The deal over on Borderline PD

I had just put in a lot on Christmas Day, and Zeraeph wanted to delete it and some other earlier stuff that had not bothered her in the past. Normally, she would just have deleted it all without comment or with brief mention that it In short, I was not going to get into an edit war with this woman. But I would have PREFERRED the article have a NPOV Banner added until things got cleaned was all POV and uncited, and to not add it back until it was perfect.

up. I don't think this sort of mass deletions of basically good CONTENT editing is helpful or productive, even if the initial quality leaves something to be desired and something that clearly needs clean up and completion.

So I had mixed feelings -- I did NOT like it rendered invisible by putting it all in line, but at the same time, it wasn't quite as galling as just having it deleted. Basically, I wanted an admin to say, she just simply can't start doing this because if it gets done across more and more articles, it will end in chaos. So I went to the help desk and they could give me no help.

But my post there attracted a few people who dropped by to check it out. One person said it was RUDE of her to do what she did (deleting so much at once), but everyone else just gave me varying advice for how to let all the editors on BPD who have been working to try to work towards a friendly and productive cooperation to bring the article towards FAS.

My main problem was that no one (even me) could edit the material unless I used the whole page approach and just hunted, line by line. I certainly could not expect any of the other editors who work cooperatively together to have to hunt, too.

So what I did, by creating that page (as I had been advised and instructed to do) --- and what I did by adding the links --- was specifically in accord with what various admins advised me to do.

You say you deleted my links, but maybe I should not have said anything about "reading them" and just saying, "please come edit" .... So I plan to rewrite the labels and put them back. Thanks for pointing out to me that the labeling left a lot to be desired. --Kiwi 09:14, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Adopt-a-User - Good for you

Well I hope you enjoy, there is a lot of satisfaction to have out of it. Piece of advice though - do not pick your first adoptee who might be a sockpuppet!!! But seriously get stuck in, check out the category linked from the Adopting userbox, and ask any of these users if they want to be adopted. If you have any problems I am always (sometimes literally) here, and if you ever want I can act as co-adopter for one of your adoptees (if you are nervous, they are difficult, or you are on Wikibreak).

Anyway good luck, oh and if you want someone to start with see User:Weirdoactor/Questions For Mentors. This user ,though they have plenty of edits, has not really dealt with some of the policy driven stuff of Wikipedia. He has this page to ask questions, and anyone can answer - a taster at least.

Help about Spell-checking

Hi SirFoz! Brace up for few of my first questions .

I was surfing wikipedia aimlessly, when I came across a spelling mistake. Well, like a good boy I went ahead and corrected it. I started thinking how can I find and correct that particular mis-spelled word. I tried searching using the search function. Found many ... corrected them ... very tiring/boring work. I had once read on somebody's user page that there is something called a bot that can do tiring work. I searched and read the Wikipedia:Bot policy. I understood that creating a bot and getting it approved are necessary. I was sure that somebody must've thought about it before. Found Wikipedia:Typo. Found something called a AutoWikiBrowser. I'll download and try it tomorrow.

Can you help with your ideas? If you have any experience with these tools, please give me some more info on things like bots and AutoWikiBrowser. What other tools are available for us users, if any? How/where to find which tools are available for doing something? Is there any better way of doing the spell-check work, except for the above tools?

Too many questions, it seems. Enough for one day! Mahalo!! --Vikas Kumar Ojha Talk to me! 19:49, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi SirFoz! I've started working quite seriously on the Typo-correction work. Today I did ~200 (or more). Tiring for sure, because I am doing it manually with only Fire-fox spell-checker to assist me, but rewarding. I discovered that if you can search and find an article with a particular typo, most of the time it will contain many others. In this way you can completely copy-edit (wish I got the term right) an article for spelling. Please advise with reference to the above. Mahalo! --Vikas Kumar Ojha Talk to me! 04:49, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi SirFoz! Thanks for the reply. I'll make sure to read the activities and articles you mentioned.
Currently I make it a point to mention an edit summary for both the typo and content changes. For typo I put minor spelling correction (if it is just one particular typo) or copy-edited for spelling (if I check and correct all typos). When I add a tag/template, I mention the tag name. I also check-mark these edits as minor. For content (I haven't done much and want to do more of this activity) I mention in edit summary what exactly I changed or added ... as I think it is a good idea and seen most wikipedians do it. Please let me know if I need to do something more or am doing something wrong. It is disappointing that WP:AWB needs 500 edits, but I can reach that mark in a couple of days.
I had read somewhere about the WP:Rfc but never cared to find-out more, I'll do it now. Admin activities sound interesting. Don't mind if I bug you with questions when I can't understand something. It can get silly sometimes because I still haven't got used to the Wikipedia jargon. Is there a page like a WP Jargon dictionary/glossary or similar?
Found Wikipedia:Glossary (WP:G) for the jargon. I'll make heavy use of it. :) Vikas Kumar Ojha Talk to me! 16:52, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

WP:ADOPT

Hi there,

As a current Adopter with the Adopt-a-User program there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention.

A new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you may have found useful as an Adopter, as well as recount any experiences that you think may help others. If you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

Also the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user, on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking.

Furthermore numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Finally - thanks for all your hard work, keep it up - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 14:03, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Isotope's views of the subject of XfDs

Please read this. This is the admin's updated verdict on the issue.

Based on what I saw on the talkpage here I wanted to clarify something. There was a sockpuppet case which I closed with the finding that they were probably not puppets. Henchman 2000 (talk • contribs) and Bowsy (talk • contribs) are free to participate in the same AfD's and talkpage discussions. If they want to have the same position on something, that is fine. As I said in my closing notes, they need to be careful because "soliciting a person sharing your computer to show up to articles for deletion debates or content conflicts on articles and support your position is probably not going to be looked upon very favorably by the community". That was an opinion on my part that such actions may induce a closing admin to ignore one of their !votes at discretion. It was not permission to harass them for participating in the same AfDs. Unless they are actively working in tandem to circumvent WP:3RR though, I don't think the accusations of puppetry are warrented.--Isotope23 20:05, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

So therefore, saying we were cautioned is out of date because the admin has said that we are allowed to participate in the same XfDs. Bowsy (review me!) 18:38, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes! Burntsauce has been blocked indefinitely! Davnel03 15:08, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Durova and Guy

Your hard work is appreciated. I think I'm gonna take a short break, this shit's starting to get to me. SirFozzie 21:51, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar

The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
I, Durova award SirFozzie this barnstar for exceptional work identifying and following up on one of the site's most prolific sockpuppeteers and vandals. You've earned this award several times over. DurovaCharge! 22:13, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Durova, coming from someone who's done so much of the work on this, means a lot :) and Suriel, thank you :) It's appreciated.

Cowherd

I hear you, but the guy is so duplicitous and edits in such a slanted way that it gets under my skin. I'm actually thinking about just dropping out of the wikipedia editing thing altogether, it is just too frustrating to deal with people like him. Take it easy. --Bluefield 16:52, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm punching out....it simply isn't worth it, I will not be protesting or appealing any ban put on my IP. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it actually was kind of worth it in the end.--Bluefield 19:38, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Your loss (and WP's loss). Hopefully you serve out whatever block/ban is coming your way, and come back ready to edit again. SirFozzie 19:42, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Checkuser case completed

Hi, A checkuser IP Check case you filled has been completed by a CheckUser, and archived. You can find it for 7 days at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/IP check/Archive. -- lucasbfr talk, checkuser clerk, 08:06, 18 April 2007 (UTC).

BLP

I'm slightly ambivalent about it. Something had to be done about the non-existent sourcing and referencing on the majority of the articles, but it could have been handled better as I said. But as long as the end result is that people understand that sources are needed and make an effort something positive has come out of it. Did you add me on MSN btw, never got any requests to allow anyone? One Night In Hackney303 20:52, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Ah, not to worry, assuming your email address is your MSN one I'll add you later and see if it fixes the problem. This weekend is going to be a quiet one, next weekend is going to be hectic as Chris Liberator (who I've still not finished writing the article for) and Lenny Dee are DJing locally, so I think it's going to be a long weekend.... Enjoy yourself whatever you're up to anyway. One Night In Hackney303 20:57, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Oversight

Sorry for snapping at you. Oversight is only used when privacy is violated to the degree that even keeping the edits deleted (where admins can see them) could be compromising . If you believe that something needs oversight, then e-mail the oversight list - posting on ANI just has 100 curious users clicking on the diff, and if it genuinely is damaging that's conterproductive. You'll find full details at Wikipedia:Oversight.--Docg 21:17, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
