Don't move the article![edit]

Hi Setwikirec0. Please undo the move of the article! There is no need to have the "of Kolkata" part since Lee Youn Chin is already a unique title and we don't need to disambiguate him from anyone else as there's no-one of that name in Wikipedia. Also, once you have moved the article back to the simple title, pleas {{ping}} me here so I can continue copy-editing. When I'm doing that over the next couple of hours, please do not make further edits yourself as that can lead to edit conflicts and confusion. Thanks. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:37, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Mike, thank you for your help in edits and clean up.
Please let me know how do I publish this Article properly so google search point directly to Wiki-Article and not to and Talk redirect or any other external redirect sites, but pointing directly to and from Wikipedia publication site. Setwikirec0 (talk) 14:41, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Setwikirec0 It is already published! The reason that the article is not yet visible in a Google search is that it is marked as "do not index" until reviewed by the Wikipedia new pages patrol. You moved the article into mainspace youself (as you are entitled to do), rather than using the articles for creation process. However, ALL articles must be reviewed by experts or created by experienced editors who have the WP:AUTOPATROLLED rights. Read those linked pages to understand the rules. My copy-editing will help make it less likely that the new pages reviewer will re-draftify the article because I'm removing some bits that I know they won't like. Your own Userpage (what you reach by clicking on your username in Talk Pages) is a completely separate issue. It was a redirect to the published article and I blanked the page because it is very misleading to people who want to know about you as a Wikipedia editor to be taken to an article about someone who is dead!. I see that you reverted my blanking but I strongly advise you to remove that redirect and either leave the page blank or write a little about yourself, as in the guidance at WP:UPYES. Now, I'll continue to copy-edit.... Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:10, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Mike, thank you for taking the time to explain things to me and how the articles work at different stages.,
I now understand better and not confused as to why its pointing my talk page.
Your points are well taken and I thank you for making the article look cleaner, and edits.
I will let Wikipedia do their needful.
Have a great day Mike! Setwikirec0 (talk) 16:33, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've now completed my copy-editing and other changes. I have removed quite a lot of material that was not properly cited and looks to me as though it is family information which you added without thinking about the policy at WP:NPOV and WP:V (read these links). The important thing for the moment is to have the New Pages Patrol accept the article, which I think they will in its current state, although some of the details are still without proper citations, for example most of the "personal life" section. The parts I've removed are available in the edit history of the article and you can add some of them back if you can find published sources to back up the information. Be careful not to stray into general statements about the Chinese community in Kolkata: remember that this article is a biography and should remain on-topic. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:45, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I note that you have added back a number of statements that I had removed. You are entitled to do so and I won't now make further changes to the article. However, I would advise you that the New Page patrollers may reject the article in its current state because significant parts such as the assertion that Lee mediated for the community and that this son was assassinated are completely unsourced and thus cannot be verified by readers: that's one of Wikipedia's core policies the article now violates. I find it surprising that you can't find relevant sources for this and other less controversial statements. Surely the Seong Pow newspaper must have published an obituary of Lee in 1991, for example? Sources do not have to be in English, nor do they have to be available online, provided they are fully cited using, for example {{cite news}}, which allows for the title of a source to be translated. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:39, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good Morning Mike,
I appreciate for your time and help in copy-editing this article.
Yes, I am waiting for the retrieval of the Seong Pow journal of the death of Lee Hok Seong.
My gratefulness for your advice and help! Setwikirec0 (talk) 15:14, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just to mention the images you uploaded to Commons. Clearly you didn't take the original pictures with your own camera (which is what "own work" means). Rather, you copied prints in your possession. Technically, that means you created a derivative work. Fortunately, Indian copyright law (see c:Commons:Copyright rules by territory/India) says that all photos created before 1958 are now in the public domain. I've added that information so there will be less change of someone deleting these files for copyright violation. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:45, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Mike, thanks again for pointing out to me how it should be done.
Can you please help me how I can retrieve newspaper publication beside sending a letter to the editor to receive a copy? While I await for replies from a few other sources.
The Statesman, the newspaper of Bengal had a full page article in English on the death of Lee Hok Seong, dates around March 7-10, 1969.
Thank you. Setwikirec0 (talk) 16:08, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have access to WP:The Wikipedia Library, which includes several large databases of English-language newspapers. Unfortunately, the coverage of Indian papers is poor and I can't find anything on either Lee. If you have no success via the newspaper itself you could try the Wikipedia resource request. Folks there are amazing at finding stuff, provided you give a request that is as specific as possible, which you seem to be able to do in this case. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:28, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You spent so much time in research too, in helping with this article. I will contact the Wiki -resource group.
Thanks Mike! Setwikirec0 (talk) 17:32, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I note that the article has now been accepted by the New Page patrollers and will therefore shorty (but I don't know exactly when) be indexed by search engines. So, well done! Now the bad news: owing to your stated conflict of interest you should no longer make additions / changes to the article. Instead, please use new Sections on its Talk Page to suggest any rewording, providing sources. There is a template {{edit request}} that is a good way to do this (see WP:ER for full details). I have the article on my watchlist and will notice your request and respond to it (or someone else might do so). Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:14, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Mike,
You have been a great help to me in how an article should be written and cited, following Wiki guidelines. Your time and copy edits, pointers to COI, NPOV etc.
I am grateful to you. My best! Setwikirec0 (talk) 16:55, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Mike, I realized that I may have strayed away from the biography and that Deoli camp paragraph is not necessary. I would like to delete that section as it has nothing to do with Lee biography. Can I do that or ask you to do that? I am not allowed to edit anymore as you mentioned.
Please advise. Thanks Setwikirec0 (talk) 23:04, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Taking out material that you added is fine and I agree that is a good idea as it is off-topic for the biography. You found some good sources on the wider Internment of Chinese-Indians etc. and hence you could expand articles elsewhere in Wikipedia where there is the advantage that you have no COI. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:36, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So editing that section of the para and the sub-heading I am allowed to do myself?. I don't need to request wiki editor to remove is fine? Pls confirm so I may proceed. Thanks Mike! Setwikirec0 (talk) 17:09, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Very well and Thanks Mike! Setwikirec0 (talk) 21:24, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have reverted this recent addition of yours. While you don't have a COI directly with the Tanneries association, you must not add information without a reliable source in the form of an inline citation. We must be especially careful adding anything referring to a person by name. In this case, a citation to the association's website would be OK, or a simple newspaper article giving these names. Mike Turnbull (talk) 09:24, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Notice

The article Lee Hok Seong has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Death date of Lee youn chin[edit]

Hi again, I'm fixing up Lee Youn Chin a bit. What's the date he died exactly and do you have a source for it? Thanks! P.S. It would be helpful if you could put it in DD/MM/YYYY fromat, e.g. 28 April 2023. Vamsi20 (ask me questions) (see what I've edited) 14:13, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good Morning Vamsi20,
Yes, I will have to load Lee's death certificate and put a picture of his tombstone in the new cemetery that he had set for the Hakka community. Death: October 8, 1991.
Thank you and have a great day! Setwikirec0 (talk) 14:41, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
