(you might want to read the other Archiving posts above)

Dar! I know this is suppposed to be really easy, but I am really bad at programming, so could somboby please either just do it for me (I don't really care what hte settings are), or spend several days talking me through the five steps or so that I need to take to get this archiving thing to work.

Thank you so much

Hi -- I think I've fixed the bot config (using the one you most recently tried) to do what you seem to want. Tim Pierce (talk) 19:39, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

THANKYOUSOMUCHYOUAREMYBESTWIKI-FRIEND!

I was torn between whether to give you the 'Your Opinion Is More Important Than You Think Barnstar' or the 'What a Brilliant Idea' Barnstar. So I gave you both. This is a surprise, isn't it. Getting two barnstars in one day. I've made myself jealous.

Your Opinion is More Important than You Think Barnstar
For thinking I'm hilarious. I'm touched. Spongefrog (talk) 18:08, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
What a Brilliant Idea Barnstar
It's for my brilliant idea, actually. Spongefrog (talk) 18:08, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

I once tried to request a Barnstar "of barnstar giving" but I got a lot of abuse for it as you can see here (well, not yet I haven't put the link in yet). I'll tell you how to make barnstars as soon as I find out. I'm too embarrased to ask in case it's something every internet thing knows. I attempted to make one once here.

P.S.es

P.S. I don't ask for barnstars, I threaten people into giving me them through eternal shame on the shame list.

P.P.S. I'm sure I've seen your username somewhere, but I don't know where exactly.

P.P.P.S. I'll add you to the non-shame list soon.

P.P.P.P.S. THANKYOU SO MUCH!!

A few more things

  • IMPORTANT: Look at my talk page. See the message above yours. Well, the guy who gave me that smiley is running for adminship. I think he gives everyone he can find a smile, so they will give him positive messages on his adminship thing. Such conduct is discouraged on a wikipedia page I can't remember the name of! ITS A CONSPIRACY!! Sorry if I sound crazy.
  • By the way, you can make small print like this by typing <small>your text here</small> around the text.
  • Did you look at the genius anti-vandal system on my userpage. If you didn't, try to edit my userpage. It will be slightly more difficult than usual! Haha. --Spongefrog (talk) 18:30, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Give John Carter lots of praise as it commands you here (although I'm sure you've read this).
  • Sorry for the length of this messages. It's like the long messages I used to leave to recent change patrollers in edit summaries to my userpage, once I got a response via edit summary from this guy called.........see this is how my messages get so long

Another message

Okay, I added you to the Non-Shame List. Sorry for crowding your talk page. --Spongefrog (talk) 19:24, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Haha

It didn't work, did it. The vandalism to my userpage. You see, I am a genius! I added long invisible messages, consisting of hundreds of spaces so it is hard to edit.--Spongefrog (talk) 20:37, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Oh well, you got round it. But it gave me a warning. If it was a real vandal, I could report it to this guy I know called Tide Rolls and he would do something about it.

Hello

To give barnstars you got to Wikipedia: Barnstars. Copy a template (that's the thingy beside the picture with the around them), go to this page and paste it down. I'm still working on how to make barnstars. I enquired a bit more but am still not too sure.

You might want to join my Fan Club. It'll probably be deleted due to a henious breach of wikipedia guidelines, but what the hell.

I've got to go to bed soon so I'll log out in a minute. It's quite late on my side of the world, and I'm only awake due to my raging wikipediholism and editcountitis. --Spongefrog (talk) 21:04, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

P.S. You really think I'm uber-cool? :)

Lists and such things

We could make a combined non/shame list if you want. That way we can get twice as many people shamed. We might have to create a 'half-shame list' or something. We would need to a) create a subpage or b) just add the same thing to each of our userpages. Just whatevers easiest.

P.S. Okay, forget what was written here, he was just passing the smiley on.

P.P.S. I forgot to say thankyou for that barnstar. Thank you. I have, or am about to, add it to the barnstar page. --Spongefrog (talk) 09:31, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Barnstars

Without meaning to be in any way negative, barnstars are generally given as recognition of some act of exceptional quality, dedication, or value. I don't see a lot of indication on your page of what you have done. Can you indicate to me something you think you have done that you believe merits such recognition? John Carter (talk) 18:55, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

It's nice to see that people watch your comments, isn't it? The question above may have been poorly phrased. There are a variety of awards, for various types of actions. It doesn't make sense for someone to give an award without having some idea what kind of actions they have done, so that they can get the most specific award. That's why I asked the question. Maybe put another way, what sort of particularly meritorious actions do you feel you have done, if any? John Carter (talk) 21:06, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey John - first I'd like to say that you are probably right, most likely I have not done enough (at least by your standards) to deserve a Barnstar. That said though, I’m curious as to whether you think you’ve done worthy acts for all of your Barnstars (i.e. one for being a cat – which I don’t even think you are) – if I claim to be a sea anemone do I get a Barnstar then? Also, while I get that I don’t make the rules, it seems to me that anything that makes somebody feel valued (no matter what the reason for giving them something is) is a brilliant thing that should be encouraged. I am not actively destroying Wikipedia, so does that no warrant some kind of appreciation? Also, I think for a newbie I’m doing a fairly decent job. I’m not saying that I deserve “The Greatest Wikipedian Ever” Barnstar, but maybe a “You’re Not The Worst Wikipedian Ever” Barnstar?

Please let me know if you think any of these points are valid…

--ScribbleStick (talk) 22:35, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Edit summaries

You aren't absolutely required to add an edit summary to each post, although it is a good idea so that people have some idea what it was you did. The page Help:Edit summary also lists a few specific things you can do so that you have an edit summary generated automatically. I don't myself use any of those features, but I know several people who do and it seems to work quite well for them. John Carter (talk) 21:16, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Vandal

No the vandal wasn't you. It was this other guy. He actually vandalised your page too, but it has been reverted. Userpages get vandalised quite frequently on wikipedia for some reason, you'll get used to it, it's often reverted before you know its happened. My anti-vandal system is sort of inviting vandalism by experienced vandals anyway. (in my opinion, anyone can insult vandals, albeit at the risk of having their userpage vandalised) Our brilliant plan can still work, except we can't directly ask for awards on peoples talk pages, (like I did, it wasn't your fault). Just copy-paste my list, a few people have visited your page recently (check the history), the're very good candidates, eve though they were just reverting vandlaism. --Spongefrog (talk) 10:42, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Wait, I forgot some. John Carter was responding more to a message I sent backing up your comment, not really your one (I think my comment inflamed the situation, he wouldn't have reacted to your's alone). We could add some to a "half-shame list" or similar. And I have no idea how to make a barnstar on a userpage (haven't you seen my previous attempts!). If you mean just how to move them to your userpage, you just go to 'edit this page', copy the whole barnstar template, and paste it wherever you want. And if you are adding the shame lists, make sure the appropriate warnings are at the top of your page (just copy-paste mine if you want) --Spongefrog (talk) 10:52, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Oh, sorry I misread your question. To create a barnstars page you create a link like ScribbleStick/Barnstars somewhere (it has to start with your name and a /) then save it. It will be a red link, which you click on. It will give you an option to create the page, then you create it. (this is called a user subpage, you can make as many as you want, except they all must start with "ScribbleStick/"). I've just created the red link for you, but make a different one if you don't want that specific name. I can't believe I know all this.

If this doesn't make sense, or is too complicated, look at WP:USERSUBPAGE --Spongefrog (talk) 11:51, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

P.S. I've been reading your edit summaries to userpages. There quite funny, but if you keep complaining, some smart-ass recent change patroller will come and leave you an edit summary message. It happened to me. I put him on the shame list (look for 'a more perfect onion').

Again, sorry for the length of this message. Sorry I couldn't think of anything funny or brilliant this time. Sorry for signing in random places several times, instead of just once at the end of the post.

BATMAN

Sorry for the heading, I couldn't think of one, and didn't want to copy your idea (although you do seem to have a fondness of plagiarising mine). Anyway, ive been trying to think of something clever to say all day (for the lists), but can't. I'd just stick to the shame lists and warnings, without leaving messages on other people's talk pages solely to solicit barnstars (like I did). As long as we dont run it like a political campaign, we are allowed to have the lists. --Spongefrog (talk) 20:25, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

We can just use the lists the way you suggested on one of your posts a while ago. I'll start the half-shame list as soon as my Article:User Talk edit ratio goes up a bit. I promised John (assuming that is his real name. He did lie about being a cat) that I would get it up to 70%. I'm currently on a mission to replace every "passed away" on Wikipedia with a "died", so this should get the percentage up a bit.

Yes, you can call me Sponge if you want. I hate my real username. In fact I might change my signature. Or request a name change.

Comments

I didn't respond to your question about list articles because I have no idea what sort of list you're talking about. If you are referring to any lists like List of cities in Afghanistan or something, yes, those have to be generated "by hand", although in some cases cutting and pasting and then editing in changes makes it a lot faster. And, I would not say I am annoyed by your including me on any sort of blatantly self-serving, arguably counterproductive, list of people who you don't think have given you the recognition you want. I am rather repulsed by the arrogance and stupidity of such a page, and might remind you that it would certainly be eligible for deletion on the grounds that it serves no useful purpose at all, and seems to exist solely for the purpose of trying to blackmail people into giving you something simply because you want it. In all honesty, though, I've never even looked at the silly page in question, so I don't actually care one way or another what it might say about me, as I know objectivity isn't particularly important to it. I do however hope that you at some point come to realize that this is not primarily a social networking site where people beg for awards, but rather an effort to build an encyclopedia. If you paid anywhere near as much attention to that as you have for trolling for awards, you may have gotten more legitimately already. John Carter (talk) 14:21, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Reply --Spongefrog (talk) 15:29, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

I think if a subpage was created for the lists, it would probably get deleted as soon as an admin found it. I don't think you could send messages solely for the purpose of notifying people they are on the list, (as much as I would want to, most users would say that is a misuse of wikipedia) but you could maybe include it at the end of a message you are posting for another reason, if you get my meaning. Or you could hint at it if you are giving another person a barnstar. John is getting pretty pissed off about it (sorry if you object to that sort of mild language), and I'm worried about other very negative replies from other admins, (admins can block you) even though the lists are not meant to be taken that seriously. Basically, we can have the lists on our userpages, but not make a big deal about it (I'm dissapointed too). --Spongefrog (talk) 15:29, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm assuming by the links at the top of your page that you are from New Zealand, which would explain why I'm often sleeping when you send messages. Or perhaps not.

You can help out with my "passed away" mission if you want (nobody's going to stop you), although I wasn't specifically requesting it. You just type "passed away" into the search bar, click "search" and it will show you everywhere there is a passed away. (you probably knew that already, its just in case). If anyone disagrees (they almost certainly wont) with it just show them WP:Words to avoid.

Heres a thing that lets you steal my ideas. -- I am allowing ScribbleStick to use all my brilliant ideas, Spongefrog (talk) 08:33, 14 May 2009 (UTC) -- Just go ahead and copypaste the lists. You might consider writing an essay on why you deserve barnstars on your barnstars page (assuming you create one), and showing them a link to it.

I'm actually from Scotland, but if I don't type like an American, no-one can understand me. --Spongefrog (talk) 08:33, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

ScribbleStick/Lies and exaggerations

Hello ScribbleStick, you recently created a page, ScribbleStick/Lies and exaggerations, I assumed you mean to put this page in your userspace so have moved it to a new location: User:ScribbleStick/Lies and exaggerations, when creating user sub pages it is important that you remember to put the "User:" at the beginning, otherwise the page goes into the main name space, all the best SpitfireTally-ho! 19:03, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

help

Your userpage has been vandalised a couple times. You may need a barnstar to console you. You could suggest a half-barnstar for each of us (they do exist) for your fourth reason. You might want to add a cleverly doctored image of a sea anemone to your userpage, with some Lolspeak on it, as John uses. You have some clever edit summaries, Barnstar of good humour. Or there is supposed to be an edit summary barnstar appearing soon. Supposedly. You have been quite succesful on the passed away -> died thing. In fact you've done better that I have. You even managed to find some "died doing what he loved"s and similar. The closest I got was a "passed away in a tragic car accident". Maybe a tireless contributer one. You have some apparently thought out arguments against various admins, maybe the socratic barnstar. Ask for the All-around amazing barnstar, you might as well. Someone should eventually find you amazing. Definately NOT the invisible barnstar, for either of us. I'll go and revise my barnstar knowledge, see if there are any others that suit you. Judging by your contributions, you have been editing some New-Zealand related articles (actually I just saw the article kiwi, which i think can be associated with new zealand) so maybe the barnstar of national merit. If you use my genius antivandal system, the Userpage Shield barnstar.

I'm actually not that busy. I'm often so bored I click random article looking for something to do. John showed me the thing below.

The Missing Barnstar

You could add this somewhere. It means you want barnstars. That's all I can think of. Hope it helps. --Spongefrog (talk) 19:59, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Shame list

I have removed this section from your user and talk pages. It is not acceptable to display lists of editors you consider you have a grievance with, and even less acceptable to encourage other editors to send them abusive emails. You may have meant it as a joke, but it is not funny.-gadfium 22:10, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Stefan Rapp requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from ScribbleStick/Lies and exaggerations, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. T'Shael MindMeld 06:29, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

I am sad

He's an admin so I think he's allowed to. Some people did find it funny (they added their own names and put :)s in their summaries). It's funny that John didn't do it in the first place. It was inevitable this was going to happen sooner or later. We can keep the Non-shame list, but its not the same is it. Never mind. We can always say at the top of the non-shame list, that you are to consider yourself on the shame list if you are not on the non-shame list.

I wasn't exactly stalking you, its just when you asked for help I looked at your contributions to see if there was any stuff I could suggest. --Spongefrog (talk) 08:51, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Oh, I see lies and exaggerations has been deleted. Thats a shame. You can still merge it with a Barnstars page, if you create one. That would probably be allowable. We seem to be getting in a lot of trouble recently. --Spongefrog (talk) 08:53, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

That thing you asked

You have to go to the history of a page, then it shows you the users who edited it. Beside their name should be a thing that says 'contribs' or something. I am sad it got deleted too. They could have at least let you copypaste it to another page. So you can add it somewhere they consider more appropriate. I dont know what else to type now. --Spongefrog (talk) 09:05, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

I read your edit summary message too late. Oops. --Spongefrog (talk) 09:08, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Something you should read

WP:MYSPACE, you might also want to read the rest of the article. While it's great having new editors that want to contribute to the project, your recent actions and chatting on talk pages make it look like you are not very serious about the project. People are here to work together on the encyclopedia, not trade barnstars and have chat sessions on talk pages. Ridernyc (talk) 09:47, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

The recent edit you made has been reverted, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please do not add copyvio righted material to articles, you run the risk of being banned from editing or creating articles. Additionally, the article could be deleted as a result of copyright violations. Thanks... ttonyb1 (talk) 15:46, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Signing In

Just so you know (in case you didnt know already), I think you've been forgetting to sign in when you edit. Its not because I've been stalking you that I know this, its because when I find a page with a "passed away", and its been changed already, I look at the history to see who's beaten me. Because I don't know anybody else who changes "passed away"s to "died"s, I assume its you. Plus, the IPs from New Zealand.

Just tell me if this was intentional. Or it wasn't you. Spongefrog (talk) 20:33, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Im just going to stop trying to write clever things here. It doesn't work for me.

I think John did answer your questions, just on his talk page, underneath where you left the last post. Sometimes people do that, you've just got to add them to the watchlist. If he hasn't answered them all, then I don't know. He does seem quite busy, being an admin. Congratulations on getting that barnstar. You can say to John (or any other enquirers) you didn't solicit for that one.

Bye. --Spongefrog (talk) 09:12, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Another semi-Important thing

This is quite important, so they cant call this WP:MYSPACE or whatever. A while ago you asked how to make barnstars. This isn't exactly the same, but its much less complicated.

1) Find a Barnstar with an image you like. 2) Copy/paste it to wherever you want and click save. 3) Once its saved, click edit at wherever you pasted it. 4) It wont appear as a short template now, it will be a big thing with lots of lines. Find the part with the title eg. |'''Original Barnstar'''| and replace it with whatever title you want.

heres an example (dont consider it a barnstar, unless you really want to)

The "Helping Random Idiots Who Can't Use Wikipedia" Barnstar
message (you've got to sign it yourself)

I hope you're allowed to do this. Perhaps that isnt the most congenial (I dont even know what that word means) title but who cares--Spongefrog (talk) 18:35, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
