This is not an attempt to hide anything from public view. The above links provide access to it for anyone on Wikipedia who wants to access it. It is meant to protect the privacy of the previous owner, by limiting exposure of the content found here on search engines, which typically only index current versions of pages, and from Wikipedia mirrors that only make use of current versions of pages. This method of archiving has the added benefit of reducing the size of the database/XML dumps for the English Wikipedia and the time taken to produce them, and may have possible benefits for storage of current articles in the database, either now or in the future. It is thus actually beneficial to the project, and not harmful or disruptive.
