Happy New Year 2007

Happy New Year 2007 !!!
Dear Samir,
New Year is the time to enjoy, party and rejuvenate oneself with a new spirit and enthusiasm. It is also the time to forget the past and begin a new life. Let us make the New Year’s resolution to:

I take this as an occasion to wish you and your family the best in the days to come on Wikipedia and in real life. May this New Year invigorate you, bringing you more happiness and content. Happy New Year 2007!!! and Happy Wikipediaing -- Amartyabag (Talk) 16:51, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your support

Thank you for your support in the RfA on my behalf. It is an honor to have received your expression of confidence. To be chosen as an administrator requires a high level of confidence by a broad section of the community. Although I received a great deal of support, at this time I do not hold the level of confidence required, and the RfA did not pass. It is my wish that I will continue to deserve your confidence. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 18:38, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

p.s. I hope I have not been a disappointment to you. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 18:38, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year

Hey Samir, wish you a very happy 2007...Cheers! Cribananda 17:21, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request regarding Kelly Marie Ellard

Hi there, I'd like to open either an article for deletion or proposed merger discussion for this article (possibly with the Warren Glowatski article as a group nomination). I have recently spent some time improving the referencing, notability claims and accuracy of the Reena Virk article, and I was surprised to see that there was an article on Warren Glowatski but not on Kelly Marie Ellard. While Warren was the only male charged in the case, Kelly is arguably more important and more deserving of an article as the convicted female murderer (the case sparked a moral panic over girl violence in particular in Canada). There are roughly as many references (mentioned on 157 pages) to Kelly and her life and involvement as there is to Warren and his life and involvement (mentioned on 147 pages) in the main book about this case, Under the Bridge, by Rebecca Godfrey according to the Amazon search inside function. Furthermore, while Warren was convicted in 1999 and served a 9 year sentence, Kelly is currently going into her fourth controversial retrial and continues to be an ongoing news story.

I then saw that the Kelly redirect has an article history behind it but was curious that apparently there was no afd or merge discussion on the talk page (I made a revert attempt at the time with a puzzled comment that the redirect seems very odd - I wasn't sure what was going on). From a communication by User:Fighting for Justice (who reverted my revert, stating that I had "no right" to do such a thing), I understand that you redirected this article in order to resolve a dispute with User:Fighting for Justice over the issue of ethnicity in the case. I appreciate that you probably saw this as the simplest and fairest way of resolving the dispute with Fighting for Justice. But I feel that the subjects of the relevance of the ethnicity aspect, and the necessity of the murderer articles in general should be given an airing in a community discussion. I myself might favour a merge of both articles (not just one) into the main article, but I believe that others should have the chance to comment (I tend to be a deletionist/mergist/exclusionist, but I am even more in favour of community process. I also tend to favour deletion/merging of "associated" separate articles into a main article as much as possible - on the other hand, I'm very aware that I'm in something of a minority in this regard).

Whatever conclusion is reached from a community discussion, they will be more satisfactory for have the backing of a group consensus addressing the status of both the Kelly and Warren articles.

Thanks for considering this Bwithh 07:55, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year

It's a little late, but Happy New year to you too. The new year started a bit rough for me, but I have a feeling that it's gonna get better. Thanks. Orane (talkcont.) 15:03, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see why you had to protect this page I mean ae gets more views then uncyclopedia and is basically the same thing.

If uncyclopedia wasn't protected why was ae?

Hey Samir, I'm wondering what WP policy/tradition is on blanking article talk pages. Here's [1] what has me wondering. It feels like censoring criticism of self-promotion, but the article did pass an AfD... Any opinions? Cheers, Pete.Hurd 20:22, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA

Hey, thanks for participating in my recent RFA. You were amongst a number of editors who considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and as a consequence the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). I am extremely grateful that you took the time to advise me on to improve as a Wikipedian and I'd like to assure you that I'll do my level best to develop my skills here to a point where you may feel you could trust me with the mop.

I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. I hope to bump into you again soon and look forward to serving you and Wikipedia in any way I can. Cheers! Is there any chance you could salt the above page? It was a very heated debate by the band members and I'm sure it is going to get recreated. Consensus in Afd seamed to go towards salting the page RyanPostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 23:14, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why was Death by Gluten removed? It contained actual facts on actual people and an actual disease. With your profession I would think you would be sympathetic to the idea that not enough people are educated on this disease, and bringing the facts out in a humorous way, especially through lyrics and song, is a very good way of getting people to listen. Their were no deceitful facts, no factual errors. Maybe they did throw in a little something extra to make people laugh, but thats the best way to get people to listen. I urge you to repost the article, if it wakes one person up to whats going on in their body, if it makes one person question their digestion and listen to lyrics that get them to realize that they are sick and need to do something about it, isn't it worth it?

Please see WP:NMG. If someone thinks they have celiac disease, they should see a gastroenterologist, not listen to a band called "Death by Gluten". -- Samir धर्म 23:57, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.

I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we?

Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Again, thank you. –Luna Santin
Glad to see you around, now and then, even if we don't get too many chances to collaborate. Cheers! Luna Santin 12:24, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Articles

Hey there, I just wanted to drop by and leave a note after your vote on my RFA, and din't want to contribute to the pile on oppose !voter problem that seems to occuring. My main problem with article writing has been that a lot of articles in my area of interest (music and social work) tend to be very contentious and as such I stay away. However, if you ever have an article that needs referenced, copy edited, or just a look at by another pair of eyes to look over it, let me know! Cheers, ✎ Peter M Dodge ( Talk to MeNeutrality Project ) 05:20, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Of course! Frankly, I'm sheepish that I didn't know that Peter M Dodge was Wizardry Dragon (despite leaving a message on your talk page). Sheepish enough that I'll withdraw my oppose both due to your fine attitude and because I've seen your signature helping a lot of people out -- Samir धर्म 06:26, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem :) The original comment about articles still stands. I certainly know I can use some more edits there, but I haven't yet found somewheres to get stuck in that's not too contentious. Cheers, ✎ Peter M Dodge ( Talk to MeNeutrality Project ) 06:33, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you're interested after your RfA, we could tackle Ottawa. Would be great if it was WP:FA! (My hometown BTW, Go Sens Go... I get beaten up a lot in Toronto) -- Samir धर्म 06:38, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really close to withdrawing my acceptance of the nomination ... I was afraid that kind of "pile on" would happen some way or another, and it really bothers me ... so ... I'll let it sit until tomorrow and see if it clears up - if it does not, I think I will withdraw it.
As to Ottawa - I'm kind of leery of editing it alone because some of the Wikiproject Ottawa people seem to have easily bruised egos (hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I'm speaking frankly there). If another editor were there though, I suppose I could take a hack :) Where do you propose we begin? Cheers, ✎ Peter M Dodge ( Talk to MeNeutrality Project ) 07:03, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Samir, this is a recreation of a very recently deleted article, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Diobesity. It should be speedied. Regards, Accurizer 00:25, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure. It's a real medical term spelled wrong: diabesity. See PMID 14598860, PMID 16926773, PMID 16352155, and last month's Lancet: PMID 17098069. Let me work on it. -- Samir धर्म 00:27, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

O.K., thanks. Also, now I see the original author says diabesity is trademarked and she wants it deleted. Best of luck. Regards, Accurizer 00:28, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks much. Glad you were there to sort it out. See you around. Regards, Accurizer 00:47, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Samir, your advice please. Given Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Diobesity just been deleted with strong consensus, should I (or am I allowed to) immediately delete Diabesity as being recreation of the same-concept article ? David Ruben Talk 04:36, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Project News
  • Project tagging:After a brief edit war over the addition of {{WP India}} to ancient archaeological sites now located in Pakistan, a "pre" parameter was introduced to remove the ROI flag from the template for pre-1947 articles, following discussion. After another large discussion on ANI alleging that the automated tagging by Ganeshbot and LostBot was "nationalistic", Ganeshbot was briefly blocked. Currently, the bots are again in action.
  • Swastika on Hinduism templates:Recently, an extremely large and at times emotional debate broke out regarding the use of the swastika on Hinduism templates, given its association with Nazism. As a result, {{Hindu Links}} now contains an educational message about the use of the swastika, as discussion on a more permanent resolution continues.

Newyorkbrad's RfA

This is to thank you for your early support on my RfA, which closed favorably this morning. I appreciate the confidence the community has placed in me and am looking forward to my new responsibilities. Please let me know if ever you have any comments or suggestions, especially as I am learning how to use the tools. Your support was particularly welcome as a barnstar that you were kind enough to confer on me back in September was one of the first indications I had that I was making any sort of impression on the community. I look forward to working with you. Best regards, Newyorkbrad 17:51, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ekajati = Hanuman_Das. Quite a development for the arbcom case. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:25, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Out of 2000 edits by Ekajati, I checked back to November and found zero overlap in edits, in addition to the linking of Ekajati to a reincarnation of HD via a checkuser. The reincarnation edits the same stuff as HD, including two articles only edited by 5 people in the same year. However one of the buddies found that there were three separate instances of "overlap" edits, between a six minute pause by one of the editors and is trying to mob me. I created User:Blnguyen1 for an experiment just then an managed to wedge a secondary account edit between a one minute pause on the official Blnguyen account. As you set out for Ithaka, hope the voyage is long
Knowledge is your destiny, but don't ever hurry the journey
May there be many summer mornings when
With what pleasure and joy, you come into harbors seen for the first time

Don't expect Ithaka to make you rich. Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey
And, if I, one of your fellow-travellers, can offer something
To make this journey of yours even more fascinating and enjoyable
This is my assistance with anything I can help.
