WP:BIO[edit]

Hi when working on Bios it is very important that they are written and also created with neutrality - the words used should not be WP:Weasel terms - I am sure Tom himself would have agreed on that. Also links for names of people (grandchildren) is over-doing it as well. I am sure you are enjoying doing the editing - it is just that there are conventions in relation to WP:MOS that have been broken. Please note the edits and understand what is required. Thanks SatuSuro 01:22, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

please see what edits the pope and hack have done to the article - please take note! - thanks! SatuSuro 03:07, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help and advice. The prose was Weasily florid at times. You folk have done a good job editing this page. It is clear, informative, and interesting to read. The layout is well constructed and pleasing to the eye. I'm not too sure about the mossy conventions I have broken given this was a minor bio with disjunctive sentence structure and layout. I feel we have made a good fist out of what is too often a flat piece of wiki-bio cataloguing. I appreciate your feedback. Cheers --Saint Lucy (talk) 04:22, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Sam Walsh, CEO, Rio Tinto - courtesy Rio Tinto.pdf[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Sam Walsh, CEO, Rio Tinto - courtesy Rio Tinto.pdf. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 16:07, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Sam Walsh, CEO, Rio Tinto 2013.tif[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Sam Walsh, CEO, Rio Tinto 2013.tif. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 18:52, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Perth Modern School Logo - Subiaco, Western Australia.tif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Perth Modern School Logo - Subiaco, Western Australia.tif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:24, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Sam Walsh, Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto.tif[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Sam Walsh, Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto.tif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 13:11, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Trinity College Perth - Main Gates (improved contrast cropped).tif[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Trinity College Perth - Main Gates (improved contrast cropped).tif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a search with the contents of List of Old Aquinians, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Old aquinians. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. MadmanBot (talk) 12:08, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

" The honour, Companion of the Order of Australia (AC), is the highest order of chivalry established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, to recognise Australian citizens and other persons for achievement or for meritorious service. "

I suspect that the reason that there hasn't been anything extra put there is because nobody can think of anything to say!  ;-)
At the moment, no, I don't have any immediate suggestions. Like you, I'm still trying to think of the correct wording.

Very rough first-pass first-draft:
" The Order of Australia is the only Australian order of chivalry. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, to recognise Australian citizens and other persons for achievement and/or for meritorious service. 'Companion of the Order of Australia' is the highest grade of this Order currently awarded."

Thank you. This reads well. I asked a couple of people to read it and they both gave the thumbs up. However I have changed 'and/or' to 'or both.'
" The Order of Australia is the only Australian order of chivalry. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, to recognise Australian citizens and other persons for achievement, meritorious service, or for both. 'Companion of the Order of Australia' is the highest grade of this Order currently awarded."Saint Lucy (talk) 13:35, 12 March 2013 (UTC) Remember: Free advice is something billionaires can't buy.[reply]
Goodness gracious! Imagine what we might have ended up with if I'd put some serious effort into it!!
Minor tweak. Pdfpdf (talk) 14:02, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I still think it might be a good idea to run it past User talk:JackofOz. He's a nice guy, polite, helpful, has a sense of humour, but most of all, puts a lot of effort into maintaining the page, so at a minimum, it is just good ettiquette to seek his opinion. If you are uncomfortable doing so, I'll do it for you. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 14:02, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers to you too. Thanks for the heads-up. I've sent Jack the following message for his review:
Hi Jack - I would like to add the following preamble to 'List of Companions of the Order of Australia'. I have been adding this as a link to 'AC' and feel it would help explain the grade. By the way, it was written by Pdfpdf who corrected me when I posted an incorrect explanation. What do you think?

Will you please pay some attention to the Edit summaries I used when reverting your earlier changes, and learn to use them yourself. South Sea islanders are not Asian Australians. "Refused to" is tabloid nonsense. Please learn to be collaborative here. Sme of your changes are good, but they're packaged among repeated nonsense. Take your proposed changes to the article's Talk page, then we can discuss what's good and what's not. HiLo48 (talk) 11:54, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

HiLo - pls note the following:
1. If you really believe an article on Asians cannot mention South Sea Islanders then you should remove any reference to Australians, white people and to anyone who is not Asian.
2. Pls moderate your rants. I did not include the word "refused" - it was already in the article when I began editing.
3. You have reverted the article back to include the following nonsensical sentence, "Later, entry taxes, killings and segregation in the short term and became the foundations of the White Australia policy.[4][5]"
4. Any discussions involving the White Australia Policy requires a brief but broader context then the simplistic view that it was directed simply at Asians and Chinese. The White Australia Policy was accepted by successive governments on the basis of two principles. One, to protect the wages and conditions of Australian workers, and two, to protect non-white people from exploitation in Australia. The second principle is the key to understanding why it is important to mention the South Sea Islanders in context to the White Australia Policy, because the policy ended slavery in Australia, and anyone trying to make heads or tails about your discussion will be left to incorrectly conclude the White Australia Policy was prejudicial simply on the basis of hate towards Asians.Saint Lucy (talk) 09:24, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You're in the wrong place. Take your concerns to White Australia policy. HiLo48 (talk) 10:26, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. However, it's disingenuous for you to tell me to raise my concerns on another page when my concerns deal with the subject matter on the Asian Australian page. The paragraphs I edited lacked a coherent and substantiated approach to the material. I admire and appreciate your passion for the material on the page and I accept your invitation to discuss and recommend changes via the article's Talk page. BTW, I am of Chinese descent and my Asian ancestry begins with the gold rush in Victoria and I have an interest to contribute purposefully to the page.Saint Lucy (talk) 12:58, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's terrific. I think you will find that we're in furious agreement on the White Australia policy. I'm an Australian with Scottish ancestors who came here before the gold rush. I regard the White Australia policy as an appalling blight on our history. However, it's not our job to keep highlighting this beyond normal reporting on what happened. Clumsily bringing South Sea Islanders into an article on Asian Australians won't help. I actually struggle with the word "Asian" as it's so vaguely defined, and not globally consistent, but by no stretch of the definition can it include South Sea Islanders. BTW, have you come across the word Kanaka to refer to islanders brought to Australia to work in the sugar plantations? HiLo48 (talk) 22:05, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for March 13[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of Old Aquinians, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Distinguished Service Cross. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Perth Modern School logo 2013.tif[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Perth Modern School logo 2013.tif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Please stop edit warring, and also do not falsely accuse others of vandalism as you did to Steelkamp here. You are attempting to remove content that has been in the article for a while and is presumed to be relevant, so the onus is on you to achieve consensus for its removal, especially given that you are making the same types of edits for which an IP was blocked immediately prior. Take this to the talk page per WP:BRD. --Kinu t/c 17:07, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It is vandalism by a hundred chops, dumps & changes & I invite you to help rectify it. Please read the site prior to 2015 & compare it to today. I've been active on this site for a long time & have witnessed the site become increasing messy. In this instance, I sought to make 4-changes.
1 restore the academic achievement table added nearly 10-years ago. Each year & with others, I have been updating the table. Someone did add some spurious columns & links which I believe to be the reasoning the entire table was removed. The spurious columns should be removed--not the table. fyi, in Western Australia the academic achievement table is common to wiki school sites. Examples:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity_College,_Perth
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churchlands_Senior_High_School
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynwood_Senior_High_School
There're heaps more if you wish to view an ever increasing list.
2 revert the current page to the original format. The current page/reversion places Heads of school at the end of the article after Notable alumni which also breaks the format on Western Australian school sites. Refer above links for examples.
3 remove politicking paragraph about a proposed policy that never eventuated to relocate the school. The proposal is no longer state government policy.
4 a minor edit (i.e. change school colour text from "navy blue, gold and red" to "navy blue, gold & red" to improve current format which splits the colour boxes over 2-lines).
Are you able to assist? Saint Lucy (talk) 01:25, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
